Naomi Osaka vs. Clara Burel | 2024 Rome Round 1 | WTA Match Highlights

Almost by the time she's got to the clay, she's a little fatigued. Oh, that's superb. What a response. Such an awkward one for Burrell right on the baseline. That's huge. That forehand, devastating. Four Grand Slams, number one in the world. As soon as her form started to dip a little bit, almost like she was going through the motions a bit. It's a dangerous backhand. She had to win that point two or three times, effectively. That's superb. More set points here. She ends the set the way she started it with an ace. A few little ups and downs from Naomi Osaka, but that is a really, really big win in the first set here. Seven games to six in 55 minutes. Softly puts it in. This is excellent from Naomi Osaka. Beautifully done. Important that she uses the width. Little closer to the baseline than she would have liked. She has stayed largely really positive. It's a wonderful point on the surface, but it's how you respond that's going to make a difference. And she should be really proud of what she's done so far in this match. Big couple of points yet again there. In the end, it was comfortable after a really tight opening set. Naomi Osaka makes it through to the second round in Rome with what turned out to be a very impressive performance. She grew in confidence and got the job done with relative ease, knocking out the world's number 45 for a first win in this city in five years. Osaka in straight sets makes it through to the second round, 7-6, 6-1.
