Mum’s April Garden, Japanese Maple & Richard’s Planting Debut 🌺🌺🌺

hi everyone it's Janette here enthusiastic Gardener I'm not in my garden can you tell where I am I'm in my mom's beautiful garden I've just popped around after work and I said Mom it's looking just beautiful let's do a very quick garden tour around mom's a whiz around and then we'll go back to my garden and uh do something there so this is Mom's gorgeous little CT charge you will have seen it before as you can see she's been busy busy doing uh sweeping the grass this morning and uh apparently the Mirror Has unfortunately fallen off so she's tried to fix it it hasn't got a hook on the back I did suggest that she could just stand it over here in fact let me do it and then do it for her and it's a temporary measure we're going to put it here there we go little temporary measure do you remember the little camper van that I gave her which was mine which she she always coveted so let's have a look around mom's Garden look at this gorgeous aelia that is spectacular very very pretty and she has lots of lovely plants here as well so that's her little seating area the wind just picked up we have a look quick look around the Rockery is looking wonderful you may recognize The Ivy wreath that I made oh Mom's stuck a pretty little butterfly she she likes the butterflies too so that seems to be doing well that's where the mirror was in between those two white hanging things but I think it looks quite cute there very pretty rocker and some pretty hanging things here bird feeders must be where I get my love for bits and pieces and that's her little summer house that is the deckin that Richard installed last year you might or might not remember she's she's cleared it all because she's been cleaning it so it's still looking very good but she does have lovely chairs which are hidden away there for the winter I think she's going to get it all out now and yeah lots of loveliness very pretty Garden a year ago I divided all this Thrift which is around the edges and she said it was flowering but it's just finished we' missed that and here in this circle I bought her it was a readymade circle which you just planted straight into the ground and it was summer bulbs but as yet nothing's happening so that's it Mom's beautiful garden in April I hope you enjoyed that very Whistle Stop tour and let's head over now to my garden it's 5° C 41° fah uh but I have some very exciting jobs and I have one horrible thing to do but I'm trying to make it fun and uh that is my weeding do you remember all those little helicopter seeds that just sprinkle from the trees up above me they go everywhere and and I don't really pick them up and this is the result that I don't pick them up now we have lots of new little plants growing everywhere so I have to dig those out so that's a bit of a nuisance and obviously this time of year everything in Spring is growing including the weed so I have to get on top but I've tried to make it fun and this is what I've decided to do I have written down on seven pieces of paper in here I used to do this for my housework Richard and I used to split the housework and we'd write down all the rooms and we' pick them out of a hat and that is the room that you had to do so you'd have three or four rooms each and just to make it a little bit more lighthearted so I've named each area and uh I'm going to pick one out every day here's all the different areas which we have first weeding area is I'm calling Fountain Garden second one is container garden and then the third one I'm calling the back border which is going to be from the molia all the way down to the beginning of shady corner where the little pathway stops to here that's going going to be back border and it has to include this bed here then the fourth one is Shady Corner that's its own section and I've called the fifth one cat border this piece here is cat border and it also has to include up to here and then we have what I've called Willow border that's going to be that little section there there and then finally I've called this one Cherry border because that's my cherry tree so that's going to be Cherry border I have seven that's seven days of the week I thought if I weather permitting of course if I pick one out a day it shouldn't take no more than half an hour so here they are here's the first one this is one that I have to do today and I'll do that right at the end of this video I just thought it it makes it a little bit more interesting so today I have to do the cat border so cat border it is first one actually cat border is probably the worst one so in a way that's good and the other thing is I had we had such windy weather that all the rossom blew everywhere all over the lawn it's sort of all collected up in into little Corners so I need to sweep that might not be today but anyway cat border is his but first I have some nice little jobs and Richard has agreed to come out and do a little bit of planting so let me show you what I have in mind these are the very last Ro iron baskets that I have I have two hanging baskets there and I have this beautiful um stand here which as you can see last night I made quite the mess because I decided to do this inside because it was dark so I was cutting artificial grass and there were green bits everywhere Richard doesn't know that but obviously I tied up well because he he wasn't suspecting of anything so I've lined those I've put my little fleecy bits in as well only because I have them but it's not essential and if you didn't see how I made these they're in um I'll link the video at the end of this one if you want to see how to make them I also did put it on my Instagram it's very easy and they last indefinitely I mean this is not going to rot and if you're going to buy new liners anyway like the coy liners this is no more expensive than that so I just think that's a very good tri tip and I think it looks very attractive anyway we have two hanging bars I have some beautiful little selection of plants to go in each of those which I'm going to ask Richard to plant one and I'll plant one but for the stand one on the stand I have this beautiful ACA and it's an ACA patum and it's called blood good and it's very beautiful and they have uh I've been doing my research they have 1 2 3 4 5 6 seven seven or sometimes it said five little Forks or whatever they're called This is beautiful so I'm going to plant that one in this container now they will grow something like I think it was about 3 m but that's in 10 years time so in 10 years time if it does get beautifully huge then I can move it somewhere else and the other thing I was thinking was that it could go here but this is a North faing so as we look this way that's the north so this is quite shady and I thought that Aces or Japanese maples liked the shade but apparently if you have a red purple one they do need some some or a little bunch of Sun at some point of the day to keep their beautiful color so what I'm going to do is move this which is my walnut tree put that over there somewhere and then I'm going looking for a little tall table a tall little round table and then this will hit the sun it gets the sun probably for about 3 hours a day so I think that will do so I'm on the lookout for a table and there's a little I've look seen a few nice ones that I like on Amazon but before I hit the button before I check out I'm just going to pop over to uh we've got a store called QD store which I think stands for Quality Discount and they sometimes have things like that so I'm just looking for it's like a little tiled top or something like that oh the other thing I needed to tell you was apparently there is 160 genuses I believe it's called in the ASA family but only three genuses are called Japanese maples one is Asa pum which is what this one is and then you've got ASA Japonica and there's another one which Name Escapes me I'll put that on the screen it begins with an S I think can't remember so those three if your ACA is in that group then they are Japanese maples which I thought was in interesting and this also in the Autumn is supposed to turn a bright bright crimson if it's had Sun so I want that to happen and then it's deciduous it will lose its leaves in the winter so so I've already put compost in and I've put some slow released fertilizer in so let's just put my beautiful new Japanese Maple in I do have one other Maple it's called a little princess and I'll show you a picture of that now I'm going to cover the top with gravel as well cuz I bought a huge bag of gravel you may have noticed everything has gravel on it at the moment and I also think it protects the roots as well gravel it looks pretty in my opinion and it stops rain splashing as well think that's fine and I'll just put my gravel on the top to finish it [Music] and what can we put on the top we need some sort of adornment perfect so that's very beautiful in my opinion and uh yeah I'll put it over there move that out the way find a little table but for the moment it can stay here started okay we started right Richard yes you don't do you need those gloves yes okay take my hands okay right Richard has very kindly agreed no I didn't agree you're going to plant a basket I'm going to plant a basket has never planted anything in his life no and on this lovely day W up like winter it's cold right okay let's get on with it so we have our baskets filled up and we have the same part each is that necessary right Richard I could be sitting indoors there having a cup we have beautiful selections beautiful beautiful this one we have one each we have similars that you can choose this one is called a honic cl honic cl and this one is called an Han to aorus grinius ogon which one would you like right try and have a little bit of enthusiasm so just it is absolutely freezing okay just make a hole make a hole you got to fit lots in yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you got to like teas teas it looks so happy in there right my one sorry your teas you love make sure that you get the soil all the way around it is all the way around really okay next we have a hooker which one do you want this one is called fire alarm alarm and this one is called grape Timeless which one oh give us a little one you're going to have to take some of the root Bo Yes dear yes I'm going to tease it tickle it look do this cuz then you can fit more in what the jeans that's okay right make sure that they s all the way around s all okay you're happy with that oh extremely next we have a br look at that we've got a Looking Glass o and a Jack Frost a looking glost okay so this is the Jack Frost oh the sun's come out oh my God EAS it take soil away yes D yes I'm doing I'm ahead of you it's going to be nicer you've got to get it right here look it's sticking up about that much it's in it's in it's quite happy oh look at that look that is so [Music] happy look at that Lush B I need to put a little bit back between the of why is that because you might have not have enough I've got more than enough okay next we have these beautiful vulgaris spring gloves put these then the edge we got r as well yeah but these are quite small aren't they oh this ISS so beautiful got to tease it look nice got to tease the bottom stop teasing teasing me oh so NAU that is gous mine looks yours looks beautiful then we have two IVs each well I've got larger room this one tease him you know what I haven't told you yet that you got what the forgot that bit you forgot that bit we got two no I got one at the moment
