In the 1989 National Chinese Chess Team Tournament, Zeng Dongping faced off against Zhao Xinxiao. Zeng Dongping was a skilled player from Sichuan. In this tournament, he played three rounds of Cannons-for-Rooks matches, defeating the elephant-handling expert Meng Liguo and even facing Xu Yinchuan. In one game, he cleverly gained an advantage with a subtle move in the opening, though he eventually lost, he still demonstrated his level. In this match against Zhao Xinxiao from Henan, it was another Cannons-for-Rooks game. Zeng Dongping sacrificed both his horse and cannon, launching a fierce attack.
