What does it mean to elevate an outfit? I feel like this term gets tossed around on social media
all the time but what does it actually mean? To me it means not just putting on clothes but it's
the intention behind each piece. It's the way they all fit together to tell a story, to tell the world
something about you. Each piece and how you've styled it is a choice that says something about
you. They haven't just been put together by accident but there is intention behind every
decision. By mastering the intention behind your daily style you'll create looks that feel like you
and that in turn will elevate your everyday outfits. So in this video I'm going to show
you five very simple ways to do just that. If you're new here my name is Adelene and I make
style videos every week to help you build a wardrobe that you love. A portion of this video
has been sponsored by Ideal and you will hear more about them later. Style is not about wearing the
most expensive items or wearing whatever's trending at the moment. It's about a feeling that
wearing clothes, any clothes, gives you. When you wear pieces that make you feel confident you will
radiate that and the people around you will feel that positive energy coming from you and that
energy will immediately make your outfits better. And that's why my first tip is for you to find
your outfit formulas that give you that confidence and give you that feeling inside. So what is an
outfit formula? Much like a recipe an outfit formula consists of garments that work well together
to create an outfit that looks amazing on you. Outfit formulas are going to be different for
everyone because everyone has different needs, different body types and different things that
they like about themselves. So how do you find your personal outfit formulas? Whenever you wear
something that makes you feel great make a note of it by writing it down or taking a photo but most
importantly try and figure out why. Is it a color that you feel like suits you? Is it a fabric that
you feel really comfortable in? Or is it a silhouette that you think really flatters you? Figuring out
why you like certain things will really help you figure out your outfit formulas. One outfit
formula that I know that I can rely on consists of a tank top because I quite like my arms and
my shoulders. A pair of high-waisted straight leg jeans. High-waisted because I'm only five foot two
so I like to try and elongate my legs as long as possible and when I do that it makes me feel
confident in myself. I also find jeans to be really comfortable and practical for my everyday life.
And then either some sort of jacket or blazer on top as that makes me feel very sophisticated. I
feel very put together and confident when I wear something like a blazer. And then depending on
where I'm going I will wear loafers, sneakers or boots but I know that my straight leg jeans look
great with any of those options. And then generally speaking all these items are generally in neutral
colors as that is just what I tend to gravitate towards and that's what I feel most comfortable in
but if you love bold colors and they make you feel confident then absolutely you do you. And this
outfit formula is my go-to, it's my fail safe. Whenever I don't know what to wear or I'm too tired
to figure out a new outfit I will put something like this on. This is an outfit I know I can rely
on to make me feel good and I know that when I feel good and confident in my outfit I'm just
a much more positive and happy person. Knowing these things about your style will make getting
ready so much easier, it makes shopping so much easier because you know exactly what to look for,
you know what shapes and colors and fabrics you feel best in and hopefully over time this means
that you will create a wardrobe that you love being in. A great outfit starts with great basics
and ends with great accessories. As we've just talked about in the previous tip my go-to nine
times out of ten is a tank top, jeans and a blazer. To add to this formula I have a handful
of accessories that instantly make me look more elevated and like I've been intentional in putting
these pieces together. Anyone can wear jeans in a tank top so what is it that makes it feel more
unique? It's in the jewelry and accessories. We can all buy the same clothes but it's the way
we put them together that creates our own personal style. However when it comes to accessories not
all accessories are created equal and when you're looking to invest in accessories you should look
for two things. Versatility so that you can wear them in any circumstance and bring down their
cost per wear that always helps and secondly the impact that these pieces have on your outfits.
I found that my jewelry pieces from Ideal are the only pieces in my collection that are both
high impact and highly versatile and that's why Ideal are the perfect partner for today's video.
Ideal creates the most stunning lab-grown diamond pieces and it's very rare that you'll see me
without an Ideal piece on whether it's worn on its own or stacked with my other jewelry bands
and these pieces immediately make my outfits feel more unique and more like me. I've worn them from
casual daytime looks to days at the gym to black tie weddings and events. Their versatility comes
from the unique modular aspect as each piece can be worn in a multitude of different ways
so let me show you how. You first choose a base stud so for reference I wear the petite studs
in yellow gold but the studs come in different sizes and also come in silver and rose gold. Once
you choose your base stud you have so many different add-ons to play with. In my ear currently
I've kept it quite simple for this everyday outfit and I have in the Lea in my first hole
which is like this very pretty pear diamond and then in the next two holes I have the Silas chain
kind of connecting them two together. The beauty of the modular concept is that you can be as bold
or as subtle as you want. To show you a bolder look I have kept in the Lea and I've added in
the Romey in the middle and the Liv ear climber at the end. They also have add-ons that can be
worn as earrings or as a necklace such as the Eden that can be worn with a stud as I've shown
you here or it can be worn around a chain and it's turned into a really beautiful and dainty
necklace. But for everyday wear I actually have on the Ava pear diamond. I find that this piece
acts as the intention behind my daily outfit formulas. I instantly feel more put together and
like me when I have this on. Their designs are modern and classic which are two style words that
I always seem to come back to and wearing these pieces every day within my everyday style helps
bring their cost per wear down which is something I'm always trying to do within my wardrobe. But as
these are lab-grown diamonds I do think that for diamonds they are very fairly priced. So the petite
studs start at under 300 pounds which for diamonds we all know is a great price and you can slowly
build up your collection with each add-on. If any of these pieces have caught your eye of course
everything will be linked in the description box and if you shop through those links and use the

so important for your personal style and I honestly think ideal is the perfect investment.
Add some friction. This is one of my favourite styling tips, in fact I have a whole video where
I talked about it and I will link that somewhere up here. This tip is about mixing your style
identities to create more interesting outfits. That could be mixing masculine and feminine pieces
together, sporty and glamorous pieces together or maybe classic and bold pieces together. Another
example of this is high-low dressing or otherwise known as mixing dressy and casual pieces together.
It's very rare that I will purchase something that can only be worn formally or only be worn
casually. For example when I worked in an office I didn't have a dedicated section in my wardrobe
that was just for office wear. I would wear items such as a grey t-shirt that is casual when worn
with jeans but for the office I would wear it with smart shoes, smart trousers and a blazer. And then
similarly those smart trousers could be worn with sneakers and a jumper on the weekend. By leaning
into this way of adding friction into your outfits you really open up so many more ideas and
possibilities within your wardrobe. That was quite a simple and easy example so I wanted to share a
couple more. So here we have a model that is wearing jeans, a blazer and converses which are three
items that we all probably have some kind of variation of in our own wardrobes. But she's paired
this with a colourful scarf that she's tied to be like a bandeau top. And this is something that we
might only consider wearing if we're on like a summer holiday. And so this immediately makes her
outfit so much more fun and interesting. She's added something very unexpected with this scarf
as a top and it's even more unexpected because she's paired it with really really casual items
and these casual items are also in a slightly baggier silhouette so they're oversized blazer
and wide fit jeans which contrast them even more. Next we have an outfit that I am absolutely
obsessed with and definitely want to somehow recreate. She has on a silk top, a raffia bag,
leather skirt and flip-flops. All very different feeling garments with a lot of different textures.
Had she worn a more summery flowy skirt then the outfit might feel a bit one-dimensional and
maybe even a little bit dated. But by pairing these summery pieces such as the silk top,
the raffia bag and the flip-flops with a leather skirt that has studs on it, she's created a look
that is really stylish and modern. I could go on forever on this topic as like I said it's one of
my favorite styling tips so let me know if you want more styling tips like this and try mixing
and matching your wardrobe in different ways because I think you'll be really surprised with
what you can come out with. The term capsule wardrobe is all over the internet, all over
social media and fashion magazines. We keep seeing the same types of items, a plain white t-shirt,
a black blazer, a pair of blue jeans, a pair of black trousers and we're told that these are the
foundations and the building blocks of a strong wardrobe. And I don't disagree with the sentiment,
I think that if you are trying to build a wardrobe that is timeless and classic
then this is a great place to start. But if you are craving that extra bit of spice to your outfits
while still maintaining that classic element, may I introduce to you classics with a twist.
These are pieces that are predominantly classic but they have something extra to them, they have
that extra spice that gives your outfits more personality and uniqueness. Take these penny loafers
for example, the shape and the color of them are extremely classic, in fact I have a very similar
pair in that black and white colorway, but they have these cute little cherries painted on them
and that is the twist. They are subtle enough that you can wear them with your other classic pieces
but that little painted cherry just gives it that bit of individuality and makes your outfits
more like you. This velvet jacket from Cezanne is also another really good example. Without the gold
embellishments it would just be a plain black velvet jacket but with the added gold star
embellishments it just gives a whole new dimension to this piece. It turns this plain jacket into
something a little bit more interesting and unique. This dress from Cos is an example of how
not just adding embellishments to something can make it interesting and unique but the cut and
the silhouette of a piece is important as well. This is a pretty plain dress but the gathering at
the waist and the asymmetrical hemline makes it really visually interesting and that is the
classic item with a twist. And what's great is that you can look for twists which are as bold
or as subtle as you like. If you don't want to opt for a full garment you can always opt for
accessories that have interesting design elements instead. I think that belts are a really great
place to begin as they can add so much to an outfit. A statement belt can be worn with your
existing outfit formulas to really help give it that something extra special. And they're quite
a low stakes way to add something bold to your outfits. The colours are probably the first thing
that our eyes register when we look at an outfit. It's really the foundation of a whole look. When
you clicked on this video I'm sure the first thing you thought was wow that is one red cardigan.
And so choosing the right colours can really be the thing to elevate a whole outfit. Now I'm not
going to pretend that I'm an expert in colour theory and the colour wheel and all that kind of jazz
but I like to think that I do know some really good colour combinations that can always be relied
on and always look good. So here is a quick fire round to give you a starting point and give you
some inspiration. Disclaimer this is not a definitive list by any means and this is also
coming from someone who enjoys a neutral colour palette. Sky blue is this season's trending colour
so I thought we would start there. The first combination that immediately springs to mind
when I think of sky blue is sky blue and white. It's such a fresh and clean colour palette you
really can't go wrong with this combination and you can do it with light blue denim or a light
chambray shirt as your light blue colour. Sky blue and silver also go really well together which
kind of makes sense as I think of silver as like white's older and more daring sister. Blue and
grey is a very modern and sophisticated colour palette. Blue and any shade of like brown or tan
or camel has a really really lovely sort of organic feeling about it and adding to that blue
brown and red is an unexpected pairing but one that works really really well. Speaking of red
another trending colour as you can tell I'm loving it myself and red is a very very interesting one
because when you first look at it I think you might feel like it's too bold but actually it
goes with so many different colours and that's why I think red as an accent colour is so popular.
Having a red shoe or a red bag is always a great addition to any outfit. Red and camel which is
kind of what I'm wearing now is one of my favourite colour combinations. I think that the camel adds a
calmness to a vibrant red. Red and leopard print is also a great pairing. Leopard print is a neutral
I don't care what anyone says it's a neutral. It's made up of predominantly neutral colours
and so it can be styled as a neutral. Red and denim blue is also a classic. I love wearing this
cardigan with blue jeans as well. Red and grey is another amazing combination. I think the grey
offsets the red so nicely. If red is a colour that is too bold for you you can always opt for
something a bit darker like a burgundy and burgundy and grey is one of my favourite colour
pairings. Moving towards a more traditional neutral palette now I think black and tan is always such
an elegant colour combination. The same for black and white always a really crisp and sharp
combination that will never fail you. Shades of cream and white always work really well for a
tonal look. Dressing tonally means dressing in different shades of the same colour and this will
always give your outfits a very cohesive feel about it and you'll always look put together.
Choosing colour pairings intentionally will immediately elevate all of your outfits and give
you that feeling of confidence from within. So those are some style tips that I rely on every
day to elevate my outfits. I really hope that you were able to get something out of this video.
I enjoy putting these style tips together so much because I know how much confidence and mental
clarity that finding your personal style can give you. If any of Ideal's pieces caught your eye
