The áo ngũ thân is a traditional 5-panel dress/garment worn during the Nguyễn dynasty in Vietnam by male and female upper class and royalty. It is the predecessor to the modern áo dài. Designers started modifying the áo ngũ thân in the early 1900's and eventually, the áo dài we know today was born.

This is a series on Vietnamese historical clothing. I will have many videos on clothing throughout Vietnamese history. This is to promote Việt phục and show people that Vietnamese traditional & historical clothing consists of more than just the áo dài.
