Madison Bumgarner his first start
since June the second coming off
left shoulder trouble.
Yeah you know Bumgarner has got
up to a little bit of a slow
start picked it up in the middle
of the year and had a really
good what a five start stretch
and then he really scuffled to
the end when he hurt his arm.
So we'll see where Matt Bum is
out right now physically
Contreras to thirty six and
thirteen home runs three to now
and Paul for he walked him and
that's a really nice plate
appearance from Wilson
Contreras so man aboard and
nobody out Chris Bryan now is
back from an all star game
appearance the fourth of his
career Bumgarner again on one
and two and got him this time on
a good slider down and in
strikeout number one of the
night for Bumgarner one out here
on the first.
Yeah tie them up right there
with a really good slider down
and in.
And it's so hard with Madison
Lee's cross firing like that
he's coming you know from way
outside puts Brian away and now
it's Anthony Rizzo choking up
on the bat a little two strike
approach he has off the middle
on that is right there.
I pulled Rojas off the bag a
bit but they get the double
play six for three and I'm at a
little flip by Ross came across
the bag and then doubled up
Rizzo and that'll end the inning
no runs I want nobody left.
We'll go to the bottom of the
first go to right hander Kyle
Hendricks no pitcher in the
league has won more games but
going into the second half he's
also tops in the league and hits
and home runs allowed not afraid
to pitch the contact at all.
In fact he's mostly going to get
ground balls when he's really on
but you know his changeup is the
equalizer not a hard thrower
does it by by location does it
by movement but the change up
when he gets ahead he can put
anybody else even when they're
looking for the change.
Here's a three to that one hit
in the air left field.
Ian Hap playing in left field
tonight the two two from Hendricks
fly ball pop fly really on the
infield foul territory Rizzo
coming down the line and he's
got it and that's out.
Number two swing and a miss
strike three Kyle Hendricks
turns out the lights on the
Diamondbacks in this first inning
works one two three gets a
strikeout nothing nothing game
inning number two by his hits a
little line drive left center
field base hit Bonning in front
of Peralta lead off single for
Baez takes a big turn.
It was an off speed pitch he
went down and got it hit it kind
of off the end of the bat not a
real hard hit ball but he just
looped it into shallow left
center.
Runner goes throw down the
second and that skips away Baez
gets up he'll scramble to third
so it'll be a stolen base to and
the Cubs are in business man a
third and nobody out now
Marisnick will line one down the
left field line.
It's a diving catch by Peralta
but tagging is Baez and coming
in to score the game's first run
nice catch by Peralta.
It's going to be a sacrifice fly
for Marisnick and the Cubs lead
one to nothing Baez singling
stealing second going to third
on the throwing air by the
catcher holiday and scoring on
the sack fly by Jake Marisnick
nice play.
Does it go up a bad.
That's a double home runs 10
RBI as a doubles swings and
skies this one to center but
under it is Pavin Smith.
We'll talk about that when we
come back as the Cedric type one
run one hit Rizzo holding the
runner Peralta Smith waiting
Hendricks firing curveball line
caught by Rizzo a double play
steps on the bag.
Anthony caught it and his next
step was right down on the bag.
That's one of the quickest
double plays you'll ever see.
Sacrifice but it's good puts the
runner in scoring position.
Now let's see if Ross can tie it
up and a drive ripped to right.
That'll tie it up extra bases to
the wall and the scores holiday
and Ross has got himself an RBI
double or not in a one big two
out hit for Josh Ross under
control.
He wasn't trying to hit the ball
five hundred feet and just
turned over on one and just
drilled it right down into the
right field corner.
Anthony rounded into a double
play in the first six for three
Anthony swings and drills one to
deep right field going back is
Calhoun.
He looks up it's gone.
Anthony Rizzo a solo home run
Cubs retake the lead two to one
over the Diamondbacks here in
the fourth.
How good does that feel knowing
that it's been a long time since
Anthony Rizzo has jogged around
the bases.
It was a breaking ball Zach and
he got all of it drove it over
the wall and right center
Christian Walker at the plate
righty to right Hendricks
delivers.
This is lined to the power alley
and left center field.
It'll bounce and roll all the
way to the wall around first and
heading to second is Walker with
a one out double gets a good
pitch to hit and he drills it to
down and the base is still
loaded.
And now the catcher Brian
Holliday at the plate.
Here comes the O2 strike three
called that one to hog the
outside corner and the home plate
on fire.
Lance Barksdale rung him up
Hendricks and the Cubs get out
of the jam as Arizona leaves the
bases loaded to down for Escobar
for two Escobar's been really
frustrated against Hendricks and
now the two to change up
dribbled back to the mound
fielded by Hendricks and he
throws to first to get him good
pitch.
Diamondbacks won't score.
We move to the sixth inning next
offering Rizzo gets hit in the
shoulder a high fastball inside
Rizzo got nailed and he trots to
first Baumgartner kind of gave
him a little shout out going
down the line.
So he got away.
There's Mad Bum's apology.
So Baez now with a two hour base
the two to pitch with two outs
and a base runner swing and a
miss Baez chase one about head
high and he strikes out to
strike out to the six in the
game for Baumgartner one down
and Patrick Wisdom do up swings
and hits one in the air in a
deep left field.
If it's fair it's gone and it
is gone for a home run.
Wisdom goes yard and the Cubs
extend the lead.
Jason Heyward will get a chance
to hit in this spot.
That's drilled in the air Jason
Heyward a pitch hit two Cubs
have opened up a five one lead
J.A. off the bench and over the
right field wall the pitch by
to pair breaking ball got him
strike three called by Barksdale
and hug the outside portion of
the plate and to pair up gets
the Cubs out of the jam.
Two on and two out.
And his two to pitch to wisdom
got him looking any over wisdom
didn't like it but have late
Lance Barksdale's got that call
third strike working.
Here comes the two to from
Kimbrell swing and a miss
strike three and the Cubs win
the ball game five to one the
final the Cubs out to
congratulate Craig Kimbrell and
the rest of the team on the
field.
Big night for the Cubs.
They win the ball game by a
score of five to one.
