On a historic day, more than 600 billion U.S. dollars of military supplies were approved, and U.S. military advisers entered Russia to guide the war.
The U.S. agreed to send another seven patriots to Ukraine.
To create history, Ukraine used its own long-range missiles for the first time to strike a Russian long-range strategic bomber.
Hamas bombed the Russian military headquarters. Fifty drones went into the air, and the Russian 8th Airborne Division exploded.
Hello, everyone. Welcome to the New Cold War History. I'm Lin Yuanshan.
Today is April 22, 2024, the 789th day of the Russian-Ukrainian War.
Today I'm going to tell you some good news that has historical significance.
Ukrainian Air Force reported that on April 19, the Ukrainian Defense Forces used the Soviet-era S-200 anti-aircraft missile system to strike a Russian main force aircraft, the Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bomber.
This was Ukraine's first Tu-22M3 strike in the air, and another milestone victory in Ukrainian air defense history.
Budanov revealed that this was a long and well-prepared operation.
Before the successful strike of the Tu-22M3 bomber, the U.S. Air Force had an ambush for a week.
The U.S. Air Force used the same method as the strike of the A-50 warning aircraft.
It landed 300 kilometers away from the Ukrainian front.
The video shows that the Tu-22 strategic bomber was hit and rotated in a spiral in the air.
Its fire burned and fell.
At the same time, another Russian bomber that followed it immediately stopped the strike, turned around and escaped.
The Russian Defense Ministry also admitted that a Tu-22M3 crashed in the Stavropol region of Russia.
But they also claimed that after the aircraft completed its combat mission, there was a technical failure and it was difficult to return to the airport.
The Tu-22M3 is a Russian-modernized version of the Soviet Tu-22M aircraft, a Russian-specialized bomber.
This long-range supersonic bomber has variable fuselage wings.
This is specially designed to use cruise missiles to attack sea and land targets.
The Tu-22M3 can carry a light high-explosive KH-22N anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile and a KH-22PSI missile with a million-ton nuclear warhead.
In addition, the aircraft can also carry a free-fall bomb.
Previously, the Russian Tu-22M3 frequently fired missiles in the Ukrainian civilian residential area, causing a lot of damage and casualties.
Last summer, Ukrainian intelligence officers carried out a special operation and successfully bombed a Tu-22M3 bomber that was in combat readiness.
In addition, two Tu-22M3s were also bombed.
After that operation, Donburov said that Russia only had 27 Tu-22M3 strategic bombers.
However, now another Tu-22M3 is missing.
According to British estimates, so far, Russia has probably lost at least 100 fighter jets, three strategic bombers and two pre-warning aircraft.
The cost is heavy.
And this is the first cooperation between the Ukrainian Air Defense Force and the Ukrainian Intelligence Directorate.
They used S-200 missiles to destroy the Tu-22M3.
And the reason why it was successful is because the Ukrainian engineers improved the old S-200 air defense system.
Although the S-200 is fast and long-range, it is not accurate enough.
In order to solve this problem, Ukrainian engineers added GPS guidance and end-of-range radar search devices to the S-200 to improve its accuracy and performance.
Donburov also said,
At that time, Donburov destroyed 29 air targets, including two Kh-22 anti-ship cruise missiles.
Kh-22 is a missile launched by the Tu-22M3 bomber.
The maximum speed is 4.6 Mach.
Kh-22 has never been successfully intercepted before.
So this is a first.
In addition, two Kh-101 and Kh-555 missiles, 14 drones and 11 Kh-59 and Kh-69 missiles were also destroyed by Ukraine.
Here are some news from the battlefield.
On April 20, the U.S. military attacked the Russian military headquarters in the center of the Bahamas.
It successfully eliminated the eight commanders of the 98th Airborne Division of the Russian Army, the 331st Paratrooper Kostroma Regiment.
Including intelligence chief Satalin, artillery commander Prokopyev, communications director Kotov, and senior adviser Panjelyev,
Ukraine has successfully attacked Russian energy infrastructure again.
After the Russian military industry is hit hard by these facilities, it will have a huge impact on the Russian military's ability to fight on the front lines.
In addition, at the same time as the Russian attack on Ukraine,
the joint operations teams of the Ukrainian GUR, SBU and SSU launched about 50 drones into the Russian territory and flew to eight regions of the Russian Federation.
These attacks have resulted in at least three power outages and a fuel storage base on fire.
The goals of the attack include ensuring that the Kursk nuclear power plant, Smolensk nuclear power plant, the Voronezh nuclear power plant at the core,
the Siberian Skaya power plant in Buryansk, and the Kalmyk oil depot in Russia.
On April 21, Ukraine used R-360 anti-ship missiles to hit a Russian warship in Crimea.
The head of the Crimean Savastopol authorities, Razvozhaev, said that the unmanned missile was shot down,
and that the fire on the warship was caused by the dropped shell, and that it had been destroyed.
There is no doubt that as the US and European aid arrives one after another,
the frequency of Ukraine's active attack will become more and more dense.
On April 20, the House of Representatives voted 311 to 112 in favor of the 2024 Ukraine security supplementary payment bill,
which includes $608.4 billion in aid to Ukraine.
For Ukraine, which is in the midst of a glimmer of hope, the best news is none other than this.
Faguang pointed out that $13.8 billion in aid is used to buy advanced weapons for Ukraine,
$13.8 billion in aid is used to buy U.S. defense systems for Ukraine,
$13.4 billion in aid is used to supplement U.S. military stockpiles,
and $11.1 billion in aid is used to support U.S. allies in Europe.
This money is not wasted.
I believe that the key figure who passed the aid bill, Johnson,
the reason why his attitude has changed so much is that he does not want to be written in history with John Bolton,
but to be written in history with Churchill.
During this period, many European politicians tried to persuade him,
which should have worked, but the key figure behind it should still be Trump.
At the critical moment, he made the right choice.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmeijer said,
the implementation of the bill will mean that Ukraine will get more weapons,
especially long-range and air defense systems.
The bill will also strengthen Ukraine's macro-financial sustainability,
including providing funds for priority budget spending,
and promoting rapid recovery,
especially the repair and strengthening of key infrastructure.
A U.S. official said,
after President Biden signed the bill,
Ukraine will receive the first batch of weapons from the U.S. in less than a week.
The source said,
the U.S. military began to pack a batch of new weapons for Ukraine in advance.
However, it is not yet clear what the first batch of weapons will include,
and how many there will be.
I saw the Washington Post say,
there will definitely be 155mm missiles and medium-range rockets.
Ukraine may also receive additional air defense systems, including anti-aircraft missiles.
In addition, the U.S. is also considering sending more military advisers to Ukraine.
According to Politico,
U.S. Spokesman Patrick Reid said,
during the entire conflict,
the Department of Defense adjusted U.S. actions in Ukraine
according to the changing situation.
At present,
it is considering sending more advisers to the Defense Cooperation Office of the Ukrainian Embassy.
These advisers will not carry out combat missions,
but will provide advice and support to the Ukrainian government and defenders.
Due to security reasons,
the Pentagon did not disclose the specific number.
Politico said,
the U.S. will send an additional 60 military personnel to Ukraine.
It is worth noting that,
although the U.S. sent these personnel in the name of the Drug and Crime Office,
the office is composed of defense personnel,
is part of the U.S. Embassy,
and reports to the embassy.
Military advisers will assist Ukraine in maintaining complex equipment provided by the U.S.
to deal with large-scale attacks that Russia may launch in the summer.
In addition,
they will support the Special Forces of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine,
and coordinate the delivery of weapons after the new aid bill is passed.
Therefore, many speculate that
these people are likely to provide guidance for Ukraine's strategic tactics,
in order to help Ukraine defend and counterattack.
On the other hand,
after the aid bill was passed,
the Russian army was in a bad mood.
On April 20,
they attacked the Ukrainian army crazily on the front line.
The Ukrainian garrison defeated the Russian army 115 times in one day,
which is more than ten times more than the day before.
Most of the attacks took place in the direction of Avdivka,
Bahmut and Simpavlivka.
When the U.S. sold a large sum of aid to Ukraine,
European countries also began to take action.
After the Brussels-EU summit,
German Prime Minister Schultz said on April 19
that Russia's missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles
have intensified the attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and urban centers.
The U.S. leader plans to send seven patriotic systems to Ukraine again.
He said,
Germany will soon send one of them to Ukraine.
This will be the third patriotic comprehensive sent by Germany.
The other six systems will soon be sent out of the hands of other member states.
He did not specify which member states.
Germany will also send Iris-T and Skynet anti-aircraft systems and related missiles to Kiev.
Schultz said,
He hopes that the NATO member states will reach an agreement on the issue of Ukraine as soon as possible,
because time is tight.
At the same time, the Group of Seven also took action.
At the meeting held in Capri Island,
the holy land of tourism,
the Group of Seven issued a joint statement
expressing their determination to defend Ukraine.
They hope to save more lives
and protect the key infrastructure of Ukraine.
The Group of Seven also asked Russian President Putin
to end the invasion of neighboring countries immediately,
calling on Russia to withdraw all troops immediately and unconditionally.
The statement said,
Russia can end this war today.
Based on the current situation,
the analyst of the Institute of War Studies, ISW,
said in a statement on April 21,
the status of the Russian military will be significantly improved.
The main reason is that Ukraine can get enough U.S. arms support
to suppress Russia's offensive.
The head of the Ukrainian intelligence department, General Budanov,
has previously revealed that June may be a large-scale summer attack
that the Russian military is expecting.
By the way,
I saw a military channel with high traffic
quoted the Russian media as saying that
Budanov was bombed to death by a Russian missile again.
I think there is a lack of analysis.
The analyst said,
the delay or suspension of U.S. aid
is a prerequisite for Russia's war.
The Russian military has been building a combat and strategic preparation team.
Their assumption is that
even the Russian military, which is simple in equipment but well-trained,
can also fight the Russian army, which lacks ammunition supplies.
But Russia's plan has failed.
They should have never thought that the military would pass smoothly.
At present,
it is still unknown whether the Russian military can launch a large-scale offensive.
But the Russian military has not given up.
They are solving the big problem of lack of troops
and are preparing to make sequential adjustments to the front line of the Russian military
to let the soldiers get a rest and complete the necessary supplies.
In addition, the situation of the logistics force has also improved.
It is expected that Ukraine can stick to the front line in June this year.
This will weaken Russia's ability to launch offensive operations
on the front line of the Russian military.
Okay, that's all for today.
I'm Yuan Shan, see you next time.
