Staahleck Castle is located on the left Rhine above Bacharach and can be reached via the B9 (signs in the town towards Steeg's sign).
The Stahleck Castle, which was rebuilt from 1908, was first mentioned in a document in 1135. Hermann von Stahleck Bacharach later made seven nuts the center of his Palatinate, which was then secured economically blossoming and subsequently secured with an extensive city fortifications with numerous towers and gates.
The Burg employed in the Thirty Years' War was repaired in 1666, but was again destroyed by the French in 1689. The ruins mashed to the quarry and fell into disrepair. In 1908, the Rheinische Verein für Wälmalpflege came into the possession of the dilapidated walls and gradually had it rebuilt. A youth hostel has been housed at Stahleck Castle since 1927. The buildings were extensively renovated in the 2010s and since then the old fortress has been one of the most beautiful and best youth hostels on the Upper Middle Rhine, which offers a fantastic view of the Rhine Valley.@Rhein-Eifeltv
