(Premier League 2023/2024): Highlights Manchester City - Manchester United

Well for 130 years it's been a fixture which has divided families, divided opinions and simply altered the moods of the inhabitants of Manchester. From the humble origins of Hardwicke and Newton Heath has evolved a clash which now resonates not simply in the northwest of England, not just across the country but to all four corners of the globe. There are so many pre-match predictions ahead of this match, most of them involve City scoring plenty and they're already on the attack and Doku's on the edge of the area and he's inside the penalty area and City will just about win a corner off Dalot and already a positive start. A good start putting that pressure on the atmosphere is incredible here inside the Etihad Manchester United everybody back around that six yard area see Phil Ford on the edge but De Bruyne has got it and he's gone to the edge of the area with that corner and he gets it back and delivers it to the edge where Foden's got it, Foden hits it takes another deflection and it will be another City corner that was imaginative wasn't it Michael? Good strike deflection again training ground working looking what Manchester United setup is how can they find a way around it? Bernardo Silva back to De Bruyne, De Bruyne in towards Stones, Stones in the penalty area then he goes down that has to be a penalty no well the referee's given nothing there's a lot of City players convinced that was a foul, yeah I don't think you're going to get that Casemiro good position they're having a little look at it I'm sure but yeah it's one of those where Casemiro doesn't get the ball but Stones instigates the contact not meaningfully, take it as a positive keep coming up Manchester United they're on the back foot, Fernandes hit the long goal kicker Bruno Fernandes has got to it and he's holding the ball up and then the shot from Rashford and United have scored what an extraordinary goal that was from Marcus Rashford he has just thumped it into the roof of the net well talked about what Manchester United good at what is their threat they've camped out and sat and waited direct pass to Bruno Fernandes and then it's Rashford just up in support takes a touch 25 yards out it's as clean it's as sweet as you could possibly hit it City unbeaten in the last 35 games here but they're looking for an equalizer on it goes towards Foden, Foden in the penalty area good save by Onana came to his right side not his left and he hit it at Onana and Onana made the save with the leg so if United aren't going to get anything out of it Onana has to be outstanding Onana plays it in and on it goes to Varane and Casemiro loses it and Ake finds Rodri and Rodri helps it on to De Bruyne and De Bruyne into the gap and Foden's through on goal Phil Foden can he equalize no he can't Onana makes the save again another terrific chance Onana is having a terrific day and in the 19th minute United still lead a goal to nil Pep Guardiola's reaction his hands are on his face that City now Walker down that side where Lindelof's defending Walker tries to take him on the outside still there Walker in the penalty area but forced to go backwards now De Bruyne hits it in and it's cleared and then Rodri great save Onana wasn't a clean enough striker kind of rolled down his knee and onto his foot and he didn't hit it cleanly but it was on target and Onana makes the Doku stepping inside onto Rodri Rodri in the penalty area Rodri scoops it on looking towards Foden Haaland's put it over the bar from underneath it wow that is a sitter Haaland's in the back of the net the ball is not you cannot believe he's missed it Michael Brown no you can't wonderful well worked again that diagonal pass to the far post and it's right in front of the goal it's on a plate for Erling Haaland and it's just agonizing it just drifts over the crossbar big chance he will recover he'll get another but that would have been the perfect time to level Foden now back to Rodri, Rodri out wide to Walker, Walker clips it in deep and Doku will get to him Doku now on the edge of the area but Dalot in front of him goes back to De Bruyne, De Bruyne into Bernardo Silva back it goes to De Bruyne and it cleared for another City corner well United are literally hanging on here by fingernails because City are absolutely all over them De Bruyne now whipping it in headed away at the near post up goes Doku, Garnaccio misses it De Bruyne emerges with it headed away one back by Rodri now Foden's got it Foden now in towards Stones, Stones on the edge of the area Rodri now on the edge of the area Rodri on towards Stones, Stones to Bernardo Silva and then on to Walker, Walker hits it deflection another City corner this is extraordinary I don't think I can remember as much in the way of chances as City have had in the first half today as any game at the Etihad this season, Pep Guardiola very animated it just won't go in at this moment in time, De Bruyne out wide into the possession of Doku, Doku advancing to the final third listen to the atmosphere Stones now, Stones back it goes to De Bruyne, De Bruyne now into Rodri, Walker looks losing a bit of pain at the moment Foden now on the edge of the area Foden on the left foot hits the shot what a goal what a goal absolutely stunning Phil Foden you absolute beauty it's City 1 United 1 if Rashford's was a good goal it's just been eclipsed and the Blues absolutely totally deservedly are back at 1-1 and there he is the Manchester born Phil Foden how good has he been this season but when he steps in he's tried to make things happen his shots have all been blocked coming inside on that left foot it's a sensational strike right across the goalkeeper into that far corner it's so clean he gets what he deserves and now the game is on it's been incredible so far Ake now Walker, Walker in a shooting position hits it straight at Onana good hit from Walker brilliant strike anywhere else other than at the goalkeeper hits it so well lots of power good ball to Mainu, Mainu on to Garnaccio out comes Ederson and Ederson with a really good tackle and it goes out for a goal kick gets the ball and follows through and catches him on the follow through so Andy Madley's got that one right as he did in the first half with that challenge on stones Diaz looking to his left helps it on to Ake again Ake out wide to De Bruyne, De Bruyne into Foden, Foden into Alvarez, Alvarez on to Foden, Foden in the penalty area 2-1 City 2 United 1 Phil Foden, it's Phil Foden yet again what a moment for the young man his season's getting better and better his desire his understanding his timing play and follow doesn't give it up a touch in the penalty area he could have squared it to Harland he doesn't strikes it far post and then off he goes as it hits the corner of the net into the City fans celebrating and City have the two goals that they're playing the first half deserved they've got them in the second it's City 2 United 1 Gareth Southgate just thinking it's the tournament in the summer Phil Foden has now played his way hopefully into that start on 11 De Bruyne advancing, De Bruyne still going, De Bruyne hits the shot just beyond the post Onana hurled himself at it couldn't get to it wide, see Onana it's a brilliant effort long ranger 25 yards curl that and that would have actually, oh Rodri wins it back Harland 3-1 game over United have beaten Liverpool are next I have to say if there was ever a match that deserved a victory for the team who have just won it it's this one United have sat back they've hoped they've prayed they just wanted anything a bounce of the ball a brilliant save by Onana but in the it's told today and United go packing 3-1 too much pressure De Bruyne has setted it off then there was another mistake fantastic work all around everybody forcing that mistake as he goes into the path of Harland opens that left foot up guides it right across Onana into the far post he doesn't miss those the United away end is emptying and the Posnans breaking out and the Blues have beaten the Reds once more here at the Etihad Stadium
