(Bundesliga 2023/2024): Highlights Leverkusen - Wolfsburg

So they're in the semi-final of the German Cup against Fortuna Düsseldorf, second Bundesliga team, so... Stannis, it strikes! It was fiercely struck, but straight at Castells. Obviously he's the most promising, hottest Flieger on the coaching market at the moment. For Wurz, one of the hottest talents on the transfer market himself. Looking to get on the end of this pass from Schalke. It's lovely from Leverkusen! Oh, it's off the post from Wurz! What a pass, eh? But look, Castells made everything right here. Spread himself big, had a little touch on the ball as well. But for Wurz, it was the only opportunity to go to the near post. A bit of defending for Leverkusen to do. Maier, Schalke put his head in a dangerous area. And now Ziziga! I think it would have been offside, wouldn't it? Wasn't it? To receive the gift like this and then obviously to finish it. What a finish it was. So calm. Oh, Baku's in behind here. Chance! Flashes across the face of goal, took a deflection on its way through. So it will be a corner. Yeah, maybe over the top, maybe a high ball over the top would have been the better decision. Oh, Schick though, getting to that one ahead of Jens, who is on a yellow card already. And is going to be sent off for a second bookable offence before the half hour mark. Just when Wolfsburg were enjoying a positive spell. I guess that's the question when it comes to those two. I think it's the first one because... Oh, chance for Schick. Wasn't looking for the penalty, but Schalke. Three in the middle if Hinkapier wants to deliver. Goes short to Grimaldo, lovely touch from Grimaldo. Ding delivery, Teller's there! It's leaders draw first blood. And Teller gets the final touch. But this goal is all about Alejandro Grimaldo. Marvellous from the home side. Oh, Teller was just, well, the only one who could head it in. But Grimaldo, look at Grimaldo. Please, when we see the replay here. How he... I think it was Hinkapier on the wing. When he received the ball, he was even more special from Bayer Leverkusen. To find someone like him on a free transfer. Here he is again. Lovely ball, it's a great chance! Hinkapier with the header. Flag stays down. I don't think it was off... Oh, it was offside. Would have been offside. The other two behind him would have definitely... No-one expecting Diverckself to be in this position. Goes along with the corner tarp, with a header on target. But an easy save for Kern Castells. Trying to keep the chance alive. Hofmann fancies his chances. It moved in the air. Follow-up effort is cleared. Five ranks. Go all in in the 85th minute. And we've got the 85th minute now, so... I can prove... Orwicz! It won't matter. Leverkusen have daylight. And they are taking another important step towards what would be a maiden Meisterschale. They've had to be patient tonight, Xabi Alonso's men. But the patience pays off. And Florian Wirtz gets his first league goal of 2024. Are you kidding me? What a pass that was. Look at Wirtz here. He's in the pocket and now he sees... He's got the Patrick Schick thing about his debut season. What was it? 24 goals scored in 27 games. They finished third. But this is a collective experience as we have a prompt ending to the 90 minutes. And it's job done for the league leaders by Leverkusen.
