A rich man was kidnapped twice.
Luckily, the kidnapper was a man of his word.
He was released soon after receiving the ransom.
But he was not so lucky the second time.
After the kidnapper received the ransom, he suddenly disappeared.
Yook Sam has not heard from him since then.
This case was once a hot topic.
Yook Sam is a super-rich man in Hong Kong in the 1980s.
Former chairman of the Huamou Group, Wong Tak-fai.
The most surprising thing is that Wong Tak-fai disappeared nearly 20 years later.
As a blind man, Wong Tak-fai showed up as a rich man in the newspaper.
It is unbelievable.
Hello everyone, welcome to King An News.
I am Wing Yin.
Today's program is about a kidnapping case that happened 34 years ago.
It is said to be the most outstanding kidnapping case in Hong Kong history.
Rich and powerful rich people naturally attracted countless kidnappers.
During the 1980s to 1990s,
many rich people in Hong Kong were kidnapped.
The ransom amount
may be a number that you and I can never find.
In the history of Hong Kong,
the kidnapping case of Wong Tak-fai is the most sensational case.
He was kidnapped twice before
and was fined up to 10 billion US dollars.
Wong Tak-fai was born in Shanghai.
He settled in Hong Kong in 1948.
In 1960, he founded the Huamou Group with his wife, Gong Yu-shin.
In the 1980s, he settled in Hong Kong.
He lived with Lee Ka-shing and Lee Siu-ki.
But compared to other rich people,
he can be said to be quite unfortunate.
And his misfortune comes from one word,
limited.
Although Wong Tak-fai has a rich family background,
but because he started from scratch,
he has experienced industrial upheaval.
The life of the couple is very humble and low-key.
They didn't hire a bodyguard or a driver.
Everything was done by hand.
Before Wong Tak-fai was kidnapped,
not many people should know
that there is such a rich couple in Hong Kong with a fortune of $10 billion.
On April 12, 1983,
Wong Tak-fai drove his wife, Gong Yu-shin, back to the office as usual.
On the way, he was stopped by several kidnappers.
The kidnappers took Wong Tak-fai away in just a few minutes.
Gong Yu-shin was sent home by the kidnappers to prepare ransom.
Gong Yu-shin followed the kidnappers' instructions
and returned 11 million US dollars in ransom
to the designated Taiwan bank account.
Fortunately, the kidnappers were kind enough
to let him go a few days after the money was collected.
Soon, the police chief, Zhong Wei-cheng, who was in charge of this case,
was caught by the kidnappers
according to the bank account funds flow of the kidnappers.
This case involved a huge amount of money.
After the case was exposed, it immediately appeared on the front pages of major newspapers,
and even attracted international attention.
The original low-key couple, Wong Tak-fai, became famous overnight.
After all, in that era,
there were only a few people who could get 11 million US dollars.
This kidnapping could be said to be a risky one.
But I didn't expect that Wong Tak-fai's first reaction after his escape
was to question his wife
why he gave the money so quickly
and that it would be easy to get into trouble in the future.
I really admire Wong Tak-fai's obsession with money.
He was detained by the kidnappers for so many days,
but he still had the mood to worry about money when he came out.
After experiencing the kidnapping, Wong Tak-fai was scared.
Finally, he was willing to spend some money to hire a bodyguard.
But spending another 600,000 US dollars a year
was really painful for Wong Tak-fai.
Soon, a year passed,
and Wong Tak-fai was safe and sound.
He simply fired all the bodyguards,
saved some money,
and installed a tracker on his shoes.
He believed that nothing had happened in the past few years,
and that nothing big would happen in the future.
The tracker was ready.
Even if he was really unlucky to be kidnapped again,
the police could track him down.
It's really good, not good, ugly, beautiful.
It's exactly this kind of exuberance
that caused Wong Tak-fai to pay a painful price.
In 1990, Wong Tak-fai was kidnapped again.
The main suspect this time was actually
Chung Wai-cheng.
Does the name sound familiar to you?
Yes, he was the police chief
who was responsible for the first kidnapping case seven years ago.
However, he had already retired.
After Chung Wai-cheng retired,
he reviewed the cases he had solved in the past.
He had seen many of Wong Tak-fai's kidnappings.
He had carefully studied the method of the kidnappers.
He thought that as long as he could make up for some of the flaws,
the whole plan would be perfect.
After Chung Wai-cheng retired,
he could only rely on a small amount of pension to maintain his livelihood.
Days were harder than days.
After a few struggles, he was relieved.
He decided to kidnap Wong Tak-fai again
and earn some money to support his family.
So he gathered a group of unidentified fugitives
to secretly interrogate them
and decided to take action on April 10, 1990.
He was confident that he would succeed this time.
There is a saying that is quite true.
The only lesson that human beings have learned from history
is that they have never learned a lesson from history.
And Wong Tak-fai is just like that.
On the night of April 10,
the unidentified kidnappers followed Chung Wai-cheng's plan
and kidnapped Wong Tak-fai on his way home after the game.
Because there was no bodyguard to protect him,
the kidnappers acted very smoothly and quickly.
As for Wong Tak-fai's pair of shoes with a tracker,
they were taken down by the kidnappers when they were kidnapped
and thrown away with their hands.
Wong Tak-fai was kidnapped a second time.
This time, the kidnappers were very violent.
They issued a $10 billion ransom.
The first period cost $60 million.
They also posted advertisements on famous media such as
Singto Daily and Oriental Daily
to complain to the public
and leave a contact information
to openly challenge the police.
The police immediately intervened
and proposed to Chung Wai-cheng
not to pay ransom before ensuring Wong Tak-fai's safety.
But Chung Wai-cheng, who was kind enough to refuse the police's suggestion,
later returned the $2.6 billion in ransom
to the kidnappers' designated account
hoping that the kidnappers would release him as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, after the ransom was returned,
the kidnappers seemed to have disappeared in the air.
They neither released him nor contacted Chung Wai-cheng again.
The line was cut off overnight.
To find Wong Tak-fai was basically like looking for a needle in a haystack.
When the police were looking for clues about where to go,
the Taiwanese police caught two Hong Kongers
when they were investigating a case of gun and shoe theft.
At that time, they had just withdrawn $2.1 billion from Taiwan's underground bank.
And this money was the ransom that Chung Wai-cheng had returned.
These two people, one is called Chan Ki-yuan,
a Taiwanese intelligence officer stationed in Hong Kong.
He is also a good friend of Chung Wai-cheng.
The other is called Chung Tze-nang,
Chung Wai-cheng's son.
They admitted to being involved in the kidnapping,
but they were only responsible for taking money from Taiwan.
The rest is unknown.
According to an article published by the East China Morning Post,
Chan Ki-yuan said
he worked under Chung Wai-cheng's instructions,
and would receive 20% of the ransom after the incident.
After the crime, he met Chung Wai-cheng for the third time.
Chung Wai-cheng told him
that if Wong Tak-fai's family gave him money to call the police,
he would be sentenced to two years in prison.
If the police were able to track him down,
he would be sentenced to seven years in prison.
Chung Wai-cheng did not say where he would hide Wong Tak-fai
until he announced his death in court.
At the same time, in Hong Kong,
one of the kidnappers, Chung Yuk-chou,
was unable to bear his inner pride,
so he went to the police station to turn himself in a month after the crime,
and revealed the identities of the three accomplices and the mastermind behind it.
He said,
Chung Wai-cheng was the mastermind behind the kidnapping.
According to Chung Yuk-chou's statement,
including him,
there were five kidnappers responsible for the kidnapping of Wong Tak-fai,
and he was the first person to rush up and arrest Wong Tak-fai.
The five of them were all found by Chung Wai-cheng.
Everyone knew each other.
Before the plan was implemented,
they had been secretly sleeping in the Jiao Ye Park in Hong Kong for two weeks.
The purpose was to ensure that the kidnapping was complete.
During this time, Chung Wai-cheng kept reminding them
not to act on impulse.
The less they knew, the safer they were.
So they didn't communicate much.
From then on, they didn't know each other's names.
They didn't even know who the target was
until they set off.
According to Chung Wai-cheng's plan,
after Chung Yuk-chou's group kidnapped Wong Tak-fai,
they had to throw away Wong Tak-fai's shoes
and then smuggle him to the port of Ap Lai Chau.
At that time, someone would respond and take Wong Tak-fai out to sea.
As for where Wong Tak-fai was later hidden
and Chung Wai-cheng's further plan,
he didn't know.
When he learned that Chung Wai-cheng was the mastermind behind the kidnapping,
he was very shocked.
He didn't expect that
the detective who tried his best to solve the first kidnapping case
would become the mastermind of the second kidnapping case.
In the past 7 years,
both Wong Tak-fai and Chung Wai-cheng were very grateful.
They would send gifts to each other every New Year's Day.
They trusted each other very much.
Even when they asked the bodyguards to install the tracker,
they asked for his opinion.
How come this trust
became the most important condition for Chung Wai-cheng to solve the kidnapping case?
After learning the truth,
the police immediately issued an arrest warrant
and arrested the other kidnappers
under the cooperation of Chung Yuk-chou.
But they still couldn't find Wong Tak-fai's whereabouts.
Until almost a year after the kidnapping,
the kidnapper, Zheng Shi-wu, went missing.
Zheng Shi-wu was a fisherman.
On the day of the kidnapping,
he followed Chung Wai-cheng's arrangement
and took Wong Tak-fai from Chung Yuk-chou
and took the boat out to sea.
He gave Wong Tak-fai to a blue Taiwanese fishing boat.
Then he went home to wait for the money.
After waiting for a few days, there was no news.
Zheng Shi-wu contacted Chung Wai-cheng and asked him clearly.
But Chung Wai-cheng said,
when it happened,
the person fell into the sea and died.
We should not contact each other again.
Later, the Hong Kong police followed the return route
and finally worked with the Taiwanese police to solve the case.
The Taiwanese police also issued 600 million Taiwanese dollars in ransom.
At that time, it was reported that Chung Wai-cheng was the leader of Hong Kong.
From March 1991 to July 1997,
12 men and women involved in the kidnapping of Wong Tak-fai
were arrested in Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively.
They were sentenced to five years to life imprisonment respectively.
The suspect claimed that
three days after Wong Tak-fai was kidnapped,
his fishing boat was caught by the Taiwanese police in the sea.
The kidnappers were worried that something would happen and pushed him into the sea.
Although this is just a side story of the kidnappers,
the police have never confirmed it.
But until today,
Wong Tak-fai's whereabouts are still unknown.
As for Chung Wai-cheng, he has been on the run,
and is nowhere to be found.
In 1999,
which is nine years after Wong Tak-fai's disappearance,
the Hong Kong High Court announced
that Wong Tak-fai had died by law.
However, Gong Yu-shim has always had hope
that Wong Tak-fai was just missing
and insisted on seeing him alive and dead.
It may be a premonition.
Gong Yu-shim died of illness in 2007.
A few days later, the Hong Kong Daily published an article
that instantly attracted the attention of the whole city.
This article was published in the name of Wong Tak-fai.
The article did not mention the name Wong Tak-fai
and did not follow the traditional way of handling the name of the deceased,
plus the black frame.
This made people doubt Wong Tak-fai's whereabouts.
Later, it was confirmed that the article was published by Gong Yu-shim's family.
The purpose was only to distract Gong Yu-shim
from the wish of seeing her husband still alive.
As for Chung Wai-cheng,
he had been wanted by the Hong Kong police for many years.
Later, there was news that
he was born in Thailand in 2020
and was 85 years old.
His son Chung Chi-nang
had confirmed the news to the Taiwan Media Center.
Chung Chi-nang said
that after the kidnapping of Wong Tak-fai,
Chung Wai-cheng first fled to Guangdong
and then to Guangxi.
He entered Vietnam via the Silk Road
and then moved to Thailand.
After that, he changed his name
and got a local passport.
Chung Chi-nang also participated in this kidnapping case.
Later, he was arrested in Taiwan
and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
He said that after being released from prison,
he met Chung Wai-cheng in Vietnam
and lived together for two or three years.
As for the kidnapping of Wong Tak-fai,
Chung Chi-nang said
that his father didn't have many thoughts and feelings.
He just felt lonely in a foreign country.
He also said that in this case,
his father was not the mastermind.
He just did what he was told to do.
However, Chung Chi-nang did not give a specific explanation.
If Chung Wai-cheng was not the mastermind,
why didn't he tell the truth for so many years?
Why did he help the so-called mastermind
to kidnap such a big cat?
It's a pity that there is no evidence now.
That's all for today.
See you next time.
Bye-bye.
