England vs Portugal 1-3 WC 2006 QF - Extended Highlights

Welcome everybody to the 2006 FIFA World Cup presented by Adidas and live from Gelsenkirchen, Germany. It's the World Cup quarterfinals continuing with England facing Portugal. The last time Portugal and England met was the quarterfinals of Euro 2004. It was a classic confrontation decided on penalty kicks and won by Portugal. Both sides about to hear their national anthems. And as for Portugal, a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands got them this far as well. For a look at England's starting lineup and as has been the case throughout the tournament, it is Paul Robinson the goalkeeper. Robinson is still going to come out in a 4-5-1, which is entering still. Everybody talking about the team has not always played at its optimum. Ronaldo will be fouled here in the opening minutes. Opportunity knocking for England. Here's Gerrard, sending it in too high. Up and over the head of Terry. Gerrard chesting it down, finds Rooney. Rooney with the saddle. Drives it! There was a good battle with Carvalho right to him and Wayne Rooney. And then all of a sudden he came over and pushed Cristiano Ronaldo. And now all of a sudden, Wayne Rooney gets a red card. So the long, tall number 21. Now they've got to get people in behind him. Neville with a long one. And aiming for Crouch up and over. Played short. Top of the box. That shot again deflected. And a second effort by Figo will go high and wide for Portugal. That was good. Figo was trying to do it. He's just trying to clip into that far post. Valente. Big collision. Rio Ferdinand came up and knocked him down. And kept him from getting any closer. You talked about it. Miguel approaching the box. This shot will be stopped by Robinson. Another low shot by Viano.
