Momoko Sakura, a young girl, is a devoted follower of manga and the famous idol Momoe Yamaguchi. Despite her youth and diminutive stature, she is affectionately referred to as "Chibi Maruko-chan." She lives in a small town with her parents, grandparents, and older sister. Momoko attends school with a close-knit group of friends, which includes Tama-chan, her best friend, as well as Maruo-kun and Migiwa-san from the student committee, and the B-class trio: Hanawa-kun, Hamaji-Bu Taro, and Sekiguchi-kun. The anime offers a cheerful and buoyant exploration of the simple pleasures of life.
