Some cats were not born into the wild, but were lost or abandoned after being raised. Sometimes we can mistake them for feral cats.

There is a rural area outside the city that people like to use as a dumping ground for unwanted pets. Some humans are just despicable!
We often see strays wandering into our fields. Even though animal rescue checks the area regularly to save these animals, many do get away and roam the hills.
Off course Many don't survive long, and fall prey to coyotes, bobcats, and mountain lions. Some of the abandoned pets simply die of starvation or become roadkill. A sad way to go.
We have three senior cats. Two of them are now eleven, and one is around 13.

We caught the two males when they were just tiny kittens. We named them Roly-poly and Tiny. They weren't litter-mates, but became best buddies. They had no behavioral problems and were healthy little rascals.
Our third cat named Critter was an adult feral. She was already fully grown when she adopted us. She used to spy on our house from the bushes. She watched the kittens playing outside and I felt sad for her, she looked starved. So I started leaving a dish of food for her at the end of the driveway.
