Believe it or not, a Male KING BIRD-OF-PARADISE in Singapore! (BQ)

Yes, I too, would think the title was erroneous, but truth be told, it was indeed a male King Bird-of-Paradise on the loose in one of the nature parks in the city state of Singapore!

The mysterious appearance of this flamboyant little King took the birding community by storm, leaving ardent photographers begging for more. It attracted hordes everyday, all eager to lay their adoring eyes on this exotic beauty.

How did this particular individual end up in one of Singapore's nature parks? No one knows for sure, but the most likely postulation was that it was a released pet, as it is virtually unheard of, for a wild King Bird-of-Paradise to fly all the way here!

In this video, it was seen feasting on the ripe fruits of the Giant Taro. Its omnivorous nature was also revealed as it snagged little insects among the smorgasbord of sustenance available.

After feasting, it flew deep into the forest, resting in its quiet corner, as shown in the last part of this video.

The King Bird-of-Paradise is endemic to Papua New Guinea and some satellite islands. Size-wise, it is considered small for Birds-of-Paradise, but what it lacks in size, the male species more than make up with its eye-catching metallic crimson plumage, complete with a dark green iridescent breast band, & sky blue legs. It looks almost unreal in its spectacular combination of bold contrasting colours.
Birds-of-Paradise are renowned for their amazingly elaborate courtship displays. Adorned with such an outstandingly brilliant suit, one can imagine how stunning this King will look when it does its utmost to woo its partner.
