Hey guys!
A while back I did an episode on my favorite breakfast foods and one of them was overnight
oats and a lot of you asked for the recipe.
So today I'm going to show you how to make them three different ways.
I'm Meg and I'm passionate about finding ways to make life with kids easier in the kitchen.
I'm going to start by showing you the basic recipe and here's what you're going to need.
Old-fashioned oats, almond milk, low-fat Greek yogurt, and chia seeds.
So today I'm using a mason jar because it's really easy to mix in here and it's really
easy to store in your refrigerator.
So the first thing you're going to need to do is take your oats.
Now again, I'm using old-fashioned oats.
The quick cooking ones will not work for this recipe and I'm going to divide it up amongst
my jars.
Now I have some almond milk.
You can really use any kind of milk you want like a non-fat milk, a low-fat milk, and now
I'm going to put my Greek yogurt in here.
Now I'm using a low-fat one today and it's plain because I'm going to be adding sweeteners
with my different flavors.
Really high in protein and high in calcium.
You guys know I love it.
And the important part is that you keep the ratio of oats to wet ingredients the same
and that's one to one.
And then my final ingredient for the basic recipe are chia seeds which are great because
they're high in fiber, protein, and omega-3s.
Now let's talk about all the yummy flavors we're going to make.
The first one is a cocoa banana and all you're going to need is some cocoa powder, agave
syrup, banana, and chopped walnuts or pecans.
And what I like to do is just add a little bit of cocoa powder and then some agave syrup
for sweetness because the cocoa powder is unsweetened.
Now you can add your bananas and your chopped nuts now but I really prefer to do it after
because I don't like when my bananas get all slimy.
So what I do is I put my top on and I give it a quick shake.
This goes in the fridge overnight and I'll get started on my next one.
The next one I like to call peanut butter and jelly overnight oats and you're going
to need peanut butter, honey, and diced strawberries.
Very easy.
I'm going to put my peanut butter right into my jar.
All right.
And then I'm adding a little bit of honey.
And I like this version because it's a little heartier with the peanut butter.
It really keeps the kids going in the morning.
And again, I'm going to leave my strawberries off until right before I eat it.
So I put the top on and I give it a really good shake.
All right.
Now with this version, because the peanut butter and the honey are really sticky, I
actually like to take my top off and give it a quick stir before shaking once more and
putting it in the fridge.
And the final one is a maple blueberry.
And for that, you're going to need maple syrup, fresh blueberries, cinnamon, and some slivered
almonds.
All that I'm going to add before the fridge is a little bit of maple syrup and then my
cinnamon.
Then shake and refrigerate overnight.
So these oats have been in the refrigerator overnight and I actually ended up making a
triple batch because I really like how the mason jars look super full, but I definitely
can't finish all of them.
Now you can enjoy your oats cold like this or you can pop them in the microwave for about
30 to 60 seconds just to make them a little bit warm, which is actually how I prefer them.
Once you have them warm or cold, we can go ahead and top them and we're going to start
with our chocolate banana one.
My bananas right on top and then a nice sprinkle of nuts.
This one is good to go.
Now we have our PB&J.
So I've got a nice handful of strawberries to put on top and then I actually like to
top it with a drizzle of honey.
And finally, our maple blueberry.
So a handful of blueberries, a sprinkle of almonds, and a dash of cinnamon.
So there you have it.
Overnight oats, three different ways.
It's incredibly nutritious and it's make-ahead, which as a busy mom, I really appreciate.
So thank you guys for watching, thank you for subscribing, and we will see you guys
next week.
Bye, guys.
