grab your sticks and let's go if this is
your first time catching the double
stick challenge then I highly advise to
click the link right up here it'll take
you to a playlist that'll bring you all
the way back to day number one work it
out and catch up let's do it
for drill six we're taking a look at the
different chamber positions and how to
transition between these different
positions so it's not going to be a
super complicated uh day here of
training but it's going to help you out
if you are entering the double stick
corenza showdown at the end of this
challenge for your chance to win some
gear and some other cool Kali Center
prizes this is going to help you out
bridge that Gap from some of our
previous training drills to our upcoming
training drills alright but before we
get to the transitions in those
different positions let's get a quick
warm-up in and one of the best warm-ups
is just working our wrist rotations just
like this
and you can see that I'm rotating both
sticks forward
and you're going to notice that when I'm
doing this look at my grip my grip is
closed I'm not opening my hand like you
see in like some other martial arts in
Kali we keep it closed
because this is going to help to develop
the wrist flexibility
and it's also going to help develop the
grip strength and we're using the
momentum of the stick to help develop
that Dynamic flexibility so we're going
to keep a closed grip you don't have to
death grip this but we just keep it nice
and closed here keep your elbows closed
tight to the body and keep your hands
about shoulder height and we're not
doing this way down here we're doing it
way up here gives our wrist a little bit
more freedom in that rotation here okay
and we're just going to rotate this
forward here
if you find that you're sliding down the
sticks just go ahead and tuck them
underneath your armpits right hand grabs
the left stick left hand grabs the right
stick and then we just get it going
again
which is actually really good because
then you got a different stick in your
hands and that's going to really help
with that grip strength you know
sometimes if you're used to training
with one diameter thickness stick and
then you switch to a thicker or
especially a thinner one you start
swinging around you start developing
these uh you know blisters which is good
because eventually those turn into
calluses and you get what we call collie
hands and get hard hands okay
so once you have this going forward now
we're going to go forward and back just
like this
okay
so we're gonna do one rotation forward
but notice how we're stopping the tip
right on line with our eyes and then one
rotation back all the way to a full
chamber position we're going to warm up
those uh back muscles and chest muscles
and the shoulder muscles
and even though these are warm-up
exercises these are actually strikes as
well
especially if we were to use like two
bolos
and the goal is to get it to snap
okay so you're gonna work that for about
five minutes great warm up and uh let's
get to the transitions drills on these
different chamber positions when it
comes to these chamber positions our
basic chamber positions is that we have
our chamber which is in this case on my
right hand side we have the right Stick
Over the right shoulder left stick by
the right hip and then we can switch
this to the left side chamber now as
you've uh probably seen in some of our
previous videos we also had a reverse
chamber position right here as well so
but this is kind of more the forward or
standard chamber position we also then
have the open position right here which
now we have the Open high position
sometimes we can have an open low
position one high one low
and then the third position is What's
called the closed position this is a
position that we don't really want to
sit in because our hands are all kind of
twisted up here and we have very short
strikes kind of slower strikes so this
is more of a position that we just kind
of pass through in that closed position
it's not something that we'd want to you
know sit here like this but what we're
going to do is work some basic
transitions between these basic
positions so what I want us to do is
just start off in our chamber position
right here this can be a super easy
drill we're going to strike up that four
and down the one right there
which is just like from the very first
video our standard six right we're just
taking out that first and fourth strike
of the standards of the standard six
here
okay so we're just striking
up to four and down the one
then at some point we'll strike up the
four
and then we're gonna go into what's
called our broken strikes
and we're just gonna strike our broken
ones just like this a broken strike as
we hit to the center and then we re
retract that weapon to the uh original
side that a strike began on so these are
our broken strikes
the fluid strikes is what we started
with where we're striking all the way
through the center from one side of the
body to the next
okay
so we throw a four and then we go right
into our broken strikes
so just take a moment here and just work
through those two throw the one the
fluid one and then we're on our fluid
strikes
get a couple reps in
throw the fluid four and then go into
our broken strikes from the open
position
you can do the other side as well so I
could throw a fluid one
and then go right into the fluid strike
starting from the left side
and then I could throw a fluid four and
that'll start the broken strikes on the
left side again
so experiment with both sides right side
and left side transitions very simple
okay
all right let me go back into the
brokens and then we have one more drill
here
and this is our circulars
we call this the circular angle one
and I want you to imagine as if you're
striking your opponent's far shoulder
right so my right stick is going to
strike towards my opponent's right
shoulder my left stick is going to
strike towards my opponent's left
shoulder
I'm just going to circle them out just
like this
right
and we're just going to work between
these three drills I'm gonna throw my
left one fluid brings us back to the
fluid strikes
throw my left four fluid bring this back
to the broken strikes
and then from there I'm just going to
change the energy from broken to
Circular
I'll throw my left again back to the
fluids and once you have that you after
you're you know pretty good at working
with the fluid broken circular in that
order then start mixing it up I'll go
from fluid to Circular
then maybe back into the brokens
okay back into the fluids
maybe I'll come up and work the exercise
couple repetitions here
back into the circulars
okay back into the exercise the warm up
back into the fluids
into the brokens
all right maybe I'll work a little bit
on the right side work a little bit on
the left side
let's back in
oh
plop from the chamber position
so we're just kind of mixing
these different Energies
and just a different drills and warm-ups
that we worked just in today's lesson
and this is helping us kind of start
getting the idea of freelance
or of corenza
with some less complicated movements
all right
foreign
there you got it there you have it my
friends day six drill on the double
stick challenge we're training up for
the double stick carenza Showdown for
those that want to take part in this
challenge you don't have to do The
corenza Showdown at the end that's only
if you want to enter a chance to win
some training gear and some other cool
prizes here at Kali Center otherwise
just enjoy the training enjoy the drills
you know learn them train them and
master them I'll catch you back here on
Tuesday for drill number seven
