Welcome to an in-depth exploration of Kali double sticks where in this video I break down the technique of Heaven Six and add it to footwork drills to build further coordination. Most only train the hands but, the true skill is in the ability to strike and move at the same time. Practice this workout 2-3 times per week to be well on your way to mastery over this essential Kali double sticks technique!
Heaven 6 is the most essential double
stick fighting pattern in Filipino
martial arts if you do not have this
striking pattern down then by the end of
today you're going to have it down
however I do want to take it one step
further and start giving you some basic
footwork that you can start
incorporating with this striking pattern
so that not only can you utilize a
striking pattern with your arms but you
can start moving around navigating your
terrain with this striking pattern at
the same time hit the Thumbs Up Button
make sure you subscribed here to K
Center share this video with your
Filipino martial arts friends and let's
get
moving first things first let's make
sure that we have the heaven six
striking pattern Down Heaven Six it's
called Heaven because the tips of the
sticks are going to point up on all
strikes it's six because there's six
strikes three on the right right side
three on the left side we're going to
start off in this chamber position right
here right stick is above the right
shoulder left stick is down at the right
hip so both sticks are on the same side
of the body the right side here we're
going to strike out our angle one and
then we're going to pull it to our left
shoulder from there my bottom hand is
going to strike an angle two as I pull
my angle two to my left shoulder I'm
going to strike out my right stick angle
two and then we're going to bounce it
back ending on the left chamber position
same thing on the left side we're going
to repeat those strikes I'm going to
strike an angle one on my left hand pull
it back to my right shoulder then I'm
going to strike from the bottom my right
hand angle two as my right hand returns
back to the right shoulder that's when I
strike out my left angle too but this
time I bounce it back to the start
position of the drill so once again we
have
1 2 3 4 five and six right there so six
strikes and notice that the point the
tip of the sticks the point of the
sticks is facing upwards to the heavens
on every single
strike so just start this nice and slow
and then work on smoing it
out before speeding it
up once we have the Striking pattern
with the sticks let's go ahead and just
tuck the sticks right here in the carry
position and let's isolate the footwork
that we're going to be working today so
we're going to step out right
45 step step out left 45 we going to
step out 90° to the
right 90° to the
left reverse it
135° to the right and then 135° to the
left so once again we have our reverse
triangle footwork going forward we have
our 90°
footwork and then we also have our
evasion footwork or moving back let's
WRA this out a few times here just nice
and easy in the beginning get used to
the
Angles and you want to be precise here
okay don't step up the center line make
sure you open this up on that
45° be precise in your steps just like
we want to be precise with the strikes
in the weapon we want to be precise with
the footwork as
well
okay then we're going to go and grab our
sticks put them into that chamber
position we have two variations of this
drill that we got to work the first
variation is striking half of the heaven
six per step so I'm going to work my
right side as I step to the right and my
left side as I step to the left going
across on the
90 90 to the
left reverse to the
right reverse to the
left and then again 45
right 45
left 90 to the
right 90 to the left reverse to the
right
and reverse to the left okay start
slowly and just get this to flow go with
me right
now if you're just on the couch watching
this video get up and do this with me if
you don't have sticks that's okay just
do the Motions with your hands and then
when you get home and you have a pair of
sticks then just put the sticks in your
hand no excuse
es to not work
this and just start
slowly until you're coordinated up and
then you can gradually work on speeding
it
up
our second variation of this drill the
fork is going to stay the same but we're
going to work all six strikes with every
single step so we're going to spend a
little bit more time holding that
structured position with our footwork
and then striking through the whole
heaven six drill okay we actually got to
do two rounds of this to equal out the
body so first round we start on the
right side we step out to the right and
hit all six boom step out to the left
hit all six strikes to the 90 to the
right hit all
six 90 to the left with all
six reverse to the right on all six and
reverse to the left with all six right
here he and let's repeat this moving
through it nice and slow in the
beginning once you have it down you can
gradually speed it up
for
once we finish that drill initiating the
strikes from the right chamber position
the right side we have to do the drill
all over again initiating from the left
chamber position now we can keep it the
same stepping to the right first or if
you'd like you can flip it over where
you are initiating stepping to the left
first start nice and slow starting on a
different side of the body changes the
coordination let's go through it nice
and slow starting on the right side 1 2
3 4 5 6 left 45 1 2 3 4 5 6 hitting the
90s 1 2 3 four five six to the left one
two 3 four five six reverse to the right
one two 3 4 5 6 reverse to the left 1 2
3 4 5 6 and
repeat
for
to truly Master the heaven six work
these drills every day for the next week
preferably 2 weeks 2 minutes on the
clock no footwork just
working the Striking pattern of the
heaven six then take a minute break
again another 2 minutes on the clock
we're doing the split three strikes on
the right three strikes on the left
working through all six of our triangle
angles on the footwork take another
minute break then another two-minute
round where we're initiating all six
strikes with the footwork off of the
right chamber
position after that take a minute break
and then the last last final round we're
going to initiate for 2 minutes with the
footwork off of the left chamber
position right there take a minute break
and you've got a great 10-minute klie
