The Crossada, also known as the X Strike or Gunting (Scissors) is one of the highest success percentage Kali stick fighting moves. In this video, Paul Ingram takes a deep dive into the details of this technique so you can precisely train the Crossada at home and put this fight winning technique into your Kali bag of techniques. Remember to start slow, focus on the details, and have fun training!
today's colle training we're taking a
look at the technique called cada or
also known as the X strike or even some
Styles would call this the goting two
weapons scissoring from the open
position or from the closed position
let's take a look at some specific
details when I'm working techniques like
this I like using What I Call my colag
arm it's just a good way to keep the
principles and you know of the
techniques just kind of fresh uh this
doesn't have to be anything you know
fancy or special it's just a post you
figure out how to fix a post it could be
in the ground be in a 5 gallon bucket
filled with cement and just extend
something out to represent you know the
weapon and the arm and the hand and
stuff but when we look at the uh the
actual csada Technique we got to use a
little bit of imagination here when we
are training solo like this so I'm
imagining that my opponent's coming in
with an angle one strike over their
right shoulder so to the left side of my
head first thing that we're going to do
is we're going to use footwork and get
off the line that's the thing that's
going to protect us most protect the
head the most the top weapon the weapon
that's on top is going to monitor their
weapon because it's protecting the
sector of where the weapon is going to
be able to return okay then the bottom
hand is going to strike right to the
weapon wielding hand of the opponent
yeah it's going right there so again
evasion footwork getting our head
getting our body offline for protection
protect the sector of the possible
returning strike and then taking the
hand and all three components here are
going to happen relatively
simultaneously right there right so we
want to just make sure we're working the
coordination here and get all this to
piece together right there now what I
like about my uh colle arm here is
because it has this spring right
here I get a little bit of
feedback and uh you know I got to make
sure that that sector is actually
protected right so when I when I make
contact to this you going to see how it
wants to come right back so that's
simulating you know that return possible
return strike coming back you know
now what we're looking for is Ki
traditionally being a bladed weapon
these would be bolos swords something
like that and obviously when we strike
right to the hand that would most likely
be the disarm right there disarm meaning
you're literally disarming the opponent
their arm is being detached okay that's
the disarm so simultaneously right here
sector is
protected okay and you can just rep this
out right here and just get good at one
side one side at a time
right there now the thing with this is
once you hit that disarm maybe you are
using sticks maybe you disarm them maybe
you don't but the the main thing is once
we hit that cada we want to make sure we
can follow it up and there's a couple
different ideas that you could start
playing with we can go into the
immediate thrusts and all the hacks and
slashes from your striking combinations
on your double sticks got lots of videos
here on the Channel with different
striking combinations on your double
stick so just in YouTube search just put
in colie center Double sticks or colie
Center Cali and you'll have a whole
library of videos now the other thing we
can do is we can let this pass as our
bottom hand is passing we can come back
with that angle two to kind of double
check that uh that sector of any
returning strikes and then we can come
right into our smashes hit the low line
Hit The High Line and just kind of
explore the different options for the
follow-ups in collie once we train a
technique on one side we got to make
sure we're training it on the other side
especially with two equal length weapons
because these are symmetrical weapons
here now so once again I'm going to step
to the right this time getting off that
line I'm going to imagine my part my my
opponent is striking you know uh an
angle two or maybe they're left-handed
and they're striking a left-handed angle
one but the first thing is I'm going to
get off the line with footwork that's
going to protect me the
best then my upper weapon the weapon's
going to be on top protects the sector
and the weapon on the bottom takes the
weapon wielding hand of the opponent
right there okay so once again all three
movements are going to happen about
simultaneously
okay I like repping them out going for
somewhere around 50 to 100 reps per side
minimum and maybe doing three to five
sets of
that all right so once we kind of r that
out then exploring just nice and slowly
in the beginning but go ahead and
explore some of your different followup
options once that sector is protected
then maybe you can come back into your
thrusts into your Cuts different
striking patterns or just like we did on
the other side maybe as our bottom hands
following through on the strike we come
back with that two to cover that sector
again and then we can start working in
all those different follow-up striking
combinations on our double
sticks once we've worked our ciss or
arings on the open position we can also
work them on the closed position and the
technique follows the exact same
principles the same formula exactly the
same way so from the closed position
first things first is to step off of the
line with the footwork footwork is what
protects you the best if you don't want
to get hit don't be there and then same
thing with the weapons top weapon is
going to protect that sector from the
possible returning strike while the
bottom weapon seeks the weapon wielding
hand of the opponent
okay right there so step off the line
protect the sector take the
hand
now one of the things you want to make
sure that you're doing when you're
protecting that sector is making sure
that you're using a strong leverage
point of your weapon which is going to
be the middle of the weapon here you
want to make sure that that is covering
the sector make sure your weapon's not
too low here where it's just a tip
because this is what again what I like
about my colli arm it's because this
will go through and hit you right in the
face and so you got to make sure you
have that Advantage leverage point right
there so that way that thing can't come
back and get through that protection
right
there again let's work the exact same
thing on the other side that closed
csada step off line make sure that the
sector is covered and taking that hand
right there just start nice and slow
here in the beginning just work that
coordination
down and before you start speeding it up
adding in power you know all that
stuff again all the principles apply
here right you can kind of come come
back into your follow-ups start working
out your different striking combinations
there right maybe if you want you can
start working in your heaven
six all that stuff for your follow-ups
and once you've worked some isolation on
all four of the ciss or goting positions
right like your uh open uh cada to the
left the open position to the right the
closed position to the left and the
closed position to the right then nice
and slow just start nice and slow but
then you can kind of start mixing it up
simulate you're moving around with
somebody right and then you can go into
your
techniques just kind of mix it up a
little
bit just make sure again if you're using
an arm like this that you're really
making sure that you're stopping that
weapon and the return of that stick
otherwise it will come back and it's
going to whack you in the face
so you know this type of training
Implement is very good because you got
to stay aware of what you're doing and
your weapon position so one little bonus
tip if you stuck with me to this point
in the video and those who haven't
they're going to miss this and it's very
very important and it's very important
in the functional fighting application
here is that when you are doing this
technique here the
crada make sure that the protective
weapon the weapon that's protecting the
sector that you don't overextend this
that you have to be protecting at the
center okay so the weapon is going to
stop this is why you want to measure out
exactly where the center line is you got
to know where your Center Line is and
whichever cada whichever goting
technique that you are applying make
sure that weapon does not go past the
center okay you can't have it on your
side either because this is going to be
able to get through and hit you
if it goes on the other side this is
going to be able to kind of sneak around
that you have to make sure you're
protecting the center line with that uh
with that protective weapon there right
there and having a little arm like this
is going to help train that
visualization to make sure that you're
not overshooting that see how this will
just if I go through boom see how that
thing's going to come right back and
whack me right in the face again
simulating that possible returning
strike so you got to have that guard up
keep keep that wall up all right there
you got a little bit of training on the
gting or also known as the cada or the X
