Rep. Jacquelin Maycumber stands up for crime victims in debate on sentencing legislation (HB 2001)
Feb 16, 2024
House Republican Floor Leader Jacquelin Maycumber speaks out against legislation on the House floor that prioritizes convicted criminals over victims. House Bill 2001 would allow judges to reduce sentences of convicted criminals, other than a person sentenced as a persistent offender or for Aggravated Murder in the first degree, after they serve 10 years if 18 years or older at time of the crime, seven years if the individual was under 17-years-old at the time of the crime.
The controversial measure passed on a narrow 51-46 vote on February 13, despite bipartisan opposition. Learn more about House Bill 2001: https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=2001&Year=2023&Initiative=false
