Welcome back to my channel, I'm Koala, a solo female traveler who's on her journey to complete
193 countries and has visited 189 countries so far. Today's video I'm taking you to experience
the 10th smallest country in the world. By the way, do you guys watch the Game of Thrones?
Did you guys know Malta was the filming venue? So for today's video, we are visiting the Game
as well as Popeye Village, which is the backdrop of the musical Popeye.
Malta is an island country in European Union with a population of about half a million,
over an area of 122 square miles. Malta is the world's 10th smallest country in area
and the fourth most densely populated country. Its capital Valletta is the smallest national
capital in the EU by area and population. Just arrived at another town, it's called
Andina and this is where the Game of Thrones was filmed and the old town is behind my back.
Right now I'm going into the old town. Compared to the capital, I actually enjoy the old town visit
in Andina more. That's exactly where the Game of Thrones was filmed. There are a lot of knights
culture here. You can even buy tickets to see an act or a musical where the knights perform.
For me, I didn't do any of those touristy stuff. I just simply stroll along the alleys and explore
different parts of the town. Walking inside Andina town, it's really cool. Like the little town
for the Mediterranean style. Narrow alleys, yellowish walls, stones, architecture,
ancient doors and designs, desert-like weather. Something I want to point out is that it's
sizzling hot, like 105 Fahrenheit degrees every single day. I live in the tropical island
Singapore. If you think Singapore is hot, then the summer in Malta, it seriously feels like
taking an outdoor shower every day. I love hot weather, tropical weather, but here in Malta,
it feels like sauna to me. Really dry and heated. I like Andina better than Valletta
because it's more peaceful, cozy and interesting and very few tourists. For those who don't know
me, I am an introvert, an INTJ. I always prefer a neighborhood and a town with less people and
touristy. So because of that, I enjoy Andina a lot more than Valletta. There are three times more
tourists than there are residents here and there are three official languages in Malta. English
for sure because it was a British colony before. Second is Maltese. So Koala didn't know Maltese
was a language before coming here. Now I know. And thirdly, Maltese sign language. However,
Italian is also spoken here too. This wall thing is really cool. The stones.
This is a Michelin star restaurant in Malta. It's called Demedian. Popeye village is a bit
far away from the capital city, all the way at the other end of the island. Driving to here
from Valletta takes about 45 minutes. In the last video, I mentioned how stressful it was to drive
through Malta because not only are roads narrow with cars parking on the curbs, driving on the
wrong side of the road as an American, but there are also lots of mountain roads up and down,
making it challenging to navigate. There was no trip for me
where the exits were not missed. That's how challenging it is to drive here.
If you have been to Universal Studios, Popeye village is another artificial
filming production town that is similar to that.
Hi!
The staff dress up as the Popeye with marine backdrop. I hang out with the main character
who told me he is doing a summer job in Malta while studying college in Spain.
Hello Popeye! If you see my video, do say hi!
There are some interesting yet kind of weird installation and backdrop setups
within the village. Let's go check them out together.
Like this one is dental clinic. It's kind of creepy.
This dental clinic thing, it's kind of creepy here. You can see the dental clinic at my back.
Universal Studios kind of thing. Let's check out this, this is market.
And this one is veggie market. And this one is postal office.
Let's have a look here. It's a game. It's playing a game.
The water and cliff here are very blue and yellow. People are playing water sports. Again,
just very very dry hot. 110 degrees like Sahara desert.
For those who don't know me, I'm taking on a challenge of visiting 193 countries in the world.
Malta is my 148th. I'll continue to update my journeys on my YouTube.
By the way, I'm actually working on something very exciting. I'm developing some customized
travel program for people who want to visit Singapore and have the best experience.
Even for Singaporeans who want to see my best pics of Singapore, which cover food, restaurant,
bar, activities, hotel recommendations. I'm preparing to launch a self-serve guide soon,
as well as some private tours developed by myself. I hope you are as excited as I am.
