hey guys I'm Doug playing drums with
nightlights and I'm gonna show you some
here today I'm playing I was the
acoustic drum kit but I'd like to mix in
some electronic elements as you do the
space I guess I'm just in order to play
our music - this is pretty central it's
the spd-sx kind of everyone's using it
these days I playing kind of going
between playing some let's say a verse
that's like a distinct group like on
this itself and then I might add it in
for like but crushing the elements and
stuff like that - I'm actually running
tracks with their Ableton so I'm
triggering those and they're how I do
that
this with this bus pedal it's called a
foot switch six and I run that into this
because that has a foot switch in and
I'm setting up sending out the send MIDI
to Ableton have a USB cable going to the
laptop which triggering tracks in
Ableton so this one is kind of just
going to next sound pretty easy and then
we you know we have a Compton and our
ears sing what song it is and so I'm
starts that way if I for some reason
need to stop anything at any point let's
say in soundcheck or whatever press that
guy stops everything also use triggers
on my drums so I got just got one here
the other one is on the kit right now
it's a trigger by roland and it's called
a katie or what is it Artie 30 HR sofa
this stands for head and rim so yeah
that's like it's a dual trigger triggers
both of the rim and the head which is
cool so I'm using those to layer up my
snare sounds you have real fat sounds
also one on the kick doing the same
thing on the cake for some songs
what else what else we got I got the old
around in years we have a inner egg on
stage we can all control those with our
iPhones iPads whatever which is great
especially when you're on tour and yeah
just easy you have the same sound every
night it sounds great I use Ultimate
Ears those are you elevenths great for
drummers and bass players got that extra
low-end punch what else my snare drum
it's a good old Ludwig drum I believe
it's like a from 69 and it's a super
super funny Marx you strong in low you
know since 1969 I love it it sounds fat
sounds foreign to you so when it comes
to drum heads I like to you know my
experiment and kind of try new things on
this drum particular actually I found
that just a regular ambassador works
great it's a thinner head
but then I like to kill some of the
overtones with you know either feet of
tape moon gels or even on this tour I've
been trying uh like a few different
things as well we kind of we've been
sharing a lot of gear me and the drummer
of Mako since we're on this tour
together we were support from eiko and
we good friends so it's kind of we can
kind of try out new things and stuff
like that so that's really cool my kid
I've been playing for years now it's a
Ludwig kit that's a vintage kid says
from 68-69 Sam it's a snare drum it's
like a blue öyster finished so pretty
classic like a really Ringo Beatles had
like a similar similar kind of finish
sounds great I was like a third is like
a rock sizes of 13 inch rack Tom 16 for
22 kick I think
22 by 16 and then snare drum is 14 by 5
and 1/2 I believe I also like these the
deeper scenario just depends on where
we're playing himself in studio off the
new stay old Rogers John it's old
marching drum I I changed to put on new
hardware so now I can't come tune it out
like actual snare well that's like the
deepest snare down my her and it's a 10
10 inches deep to 10 by fourteen cymbals
I'm playing right now
coming for this tour would keep an
example so like a just a ride and a
crash I'm a k22 like ride a 19 inch
crash but my know it's like an extra dry
and then the had started to crash at 16
16 inch crashes it's a a-z custom a
medium thin button
crash for the like the bottom simple and
then the top is a a reso I believe I'm
not sure if it's even made anymore but
that's fine as well
so yeah night lights we are kind of
producing all the stuff we do ourselves
we sometimes work without a produces too
but we we like to recreate the same
sounds life so our bass player now he's
running the
the base rate the keyboard controller
Ableton as well we have one of our
favorite plugins we use a lot of this
the you know Alexa boots go by it's kind
of recreating a Juneau 60 you said a lot
of that we like to just like blush
reverts and that kind of thing as well
Valhalla is great to put on something
some of the sounds we have and this
already I've been able to face thanks
for checking my old my gear up we yeah
I'm playing Night Lights as I said
earlier and we can check us out on
Instagram Facebook all that stuff it's
all the same we are Night Lights
you
