Today we are exploring some of the top Puerto Rico hidden gems, and we are heading east, to the beautiful town of Humacao, to visit Punta Santiago Nature Reserve.
The Humacao Wildlife Refuge (now called the Punta Santiago Natural Reserve in Humacao) is located on the east coast of Puerto Rico. Within the reserve you’ll find numerous trails for walking, biking and light hiking, long stretches of beach, spectacular views of the coast, lots of fishing opportunities, an area with picnic pavilions, some ruins from the area’s history as a sugar plantation, old bunkers from wars past, and the availability of kayaks and bikes to rent. The reserve has been recently refurbished and now offers kiosks for crafts too. The reserve is not heavily visited, so you may very well have this large area almost all to yourself! If you are a bird watcher, this is a great place to see birds. And iguanas!

The Reserve is open from 7 days/week from 9a-5p, but the concessions are only open Wednesday – Sunday 9 – 4pm. (and usually Mondays that are holidays)

hi everyone today we're going to be
hiking the trail at the Punta Santiago
Nature Reserve in umaka Puerto Rico this
is on the east coast of Puerto Rico and
we got here and there's actually a lot
of parking which is nice um and you just
go towards the beach and start to the
right and it looks like the trail
starts next to this abandoned building
that has a I don't know chicken snake on
[Music]
it this Trail starts out really nice
it's a sand Trail and we're doing it
with a stroller today so it actually
looks like it's going to be a pretty
accessible Trail to
do so for the first part of this hike
you hike along this manicured short
green grass area that's so pretty with
all these beautiful views of the ocean
and the palm trees and now it looks like
we're going to go into a shaded area
again this path is really well kept
and there so far I haven't seen any
litter along the actual path it's really
clean the Shady part of this Trail just
opened up to the prettiest view of this
deserted beach look at
[Music]
it okay so we just got to a fork in the
trail and the the fork to the right
looks to be much more accessible so
that's the fork that they're going to do
with the stroller and then the one to
the left is actually according to the
map a mountain biking trail so I'm going
to go ahead and take this Trail show you
guys what it looks like they looks super
fun yes getting in a good workout after
a long week of sitting at a desk you
guys I'm surprised this Trail isn't
super crowded this is so pretty and it's
just really peaceful
[Music]
look oh you guys I think I smell an
amazing view coming up here let's check
it
[Music]
out so there's another fork in this
Trail here I think I'm going to go ahead
and keep going through the forest cuz it
looks like the more interesting Trail
and the better workout for
[Music]
me so I'm getting to the top of this
little climb and look at this
[Music]
view all right so we got to something
really
interesting this says that this Rocky
ledge was used during World War
II and that there are some military
structures
here called pill
boxes well you guys I wonder where this
goes I'm not going there so here are
these like
military buildings that are super creepy
oh I guess I see why they're called
pillbox
huh here's another
one
creepy and then from here we can see CAO
Santiago and
[Music]
bees look at this structure what a cool
place for a picnic it's so beautifully
painted too
[Music]
so keep going down the trail a little
bit after that beautiful building and
you're going to see this amazing view of
a really unique
Beach
[Music]
we absolutely love this Trail and we're
totally going to come back this was a
great Trail to do with a stroller and
there's also options if you want to be a
little more adventurous to hike up that
hill and you can extend this trail hike
a lot longer it's like a pretty long
trail actually but we're going to head
back now because we're really hungry so
we're going to go get a beautiful dinner
somewhere
after this beautiful hike the best place
to go for a delicious lunch or dinner is
El malikone de Nago a seaside boardwalk
with a variety of restaurants most of
them specializing in fresh seafood we
chose Los makos and had a spectacular
Seafood
[Music]
Feast fer do you like the one you like
[Music]
it thanks so much for watching and we
hope to see you on the next one make
sure you comment below if you have
another beautiful place that you like to
visit in umaa Puerto Rico
