No Rebar in Beams, Cement Flakes Off: Xiong’An’s $80B Investment Sees Massive Tofu-Dreg Buildings
In reality, whether it's demolition and resettlement housing or poverty alleviation resettlement housing, they are fundamentally crucial for the government's livelihood construction, which plays a vital role in people's survival and development. The Chinese Communist Party, in its efforts to showcase its political achievements and claim victory in the "poverty alleviation battle," has continuously constructed resettlement units, relocating impoverished individuals from rural areas into high-rise buildings. However, the quality of these buildings has exposed the true face of this "poverty alleviation" drama, confirming suspicions that China's poverty alleviation standards differ significantly from international standards. These shaky buildings have become a symbol of a political facade.
Another instance of poor quality construction can be seen in the resettlement units located in Xiong'an New Area. "Xiong'an New Area," has been mentioned in previous episodes as one of Xi Jinping's "millennial projects." It received an investment of 664 billion yuan and was transformed from former cornfields into a development comprising train stations, office buildings, residential communities, five-star hotels, schools, and hospitals. Authorities intended to develop Xiong'an New Area into an "economic development city" and make it a representative project of the regime's political career. However, due to low occupancy rates, it was mocked as "China's largest ghost town." Today, due to poor quality, it has been labeled as a "shoddy construction project."
