Thinking of stopping for a photo or a moment to enjoy the view of the Las Vegas Strip on a pedestrian bridge? You might risk getting jail time. The city has banned stopping on the bridge for security reasons.
Stopping or standing is now prohibited on pedestrian bridges on the Las Vegas Strip.
Violators of the ordinance that took effect Tuesday could face as much as six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.
The goal is not to stop people from taking photos or performing,
but to make sure the flow of pedestrian traffic across the bridge stays safe.
The police will first take the opportunity to educate them about what the ordinance is,
ask them to move along. The overwhelming majority of people will comply with that.
Clark County commissioners voted unanimously this month to approve the measure banning people from
stopping, standing, or engaging in activity that causes another person to stop on strip pedestrian bridges.
That also includes surrounding connected stairs, elevators, and escalators.
For the extremely small number of people who do not comply with that,
this ordinance simply gives the police the tool to cite them or arrest them if necessary.
The ban doesn't include standing or stopping if a person is waiting to use an elevator, stairway, or escalator.
