Sun Tzu was one of the greatest strategists the world has ever seen. For more than 2500 years, his influential text “The Art of War” has guided Chinese military commanders in their campaigns and battle strategies.

In 13 chapters, Sun Tzu lays down principles for succeeding in warfare, including various facets such as army provisions and discipline, nature of terrain, and characteristics of a successful commander.

Applying “The Art of War”

When Liu Bang established the Han Dynasty in 202 BCE with the help of his commander-in-chief Han Xin, Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” was an important military treatise. Appointed commander-in-chief at the age of 25, Han Xin led Liu Bang’s Han army to unprecedented victories. His battle tactics, forbearance, and loyalty paved the way to success.

In our 11-episode docudrama “Han Xin,” we look at the life of this legendary general, his humble background and remarkable successes on the battlefield. We also analyze the factors that led to the rise of the Han Dynasty, including the great battles with Xiang Yu, the hegemon-king.
