We know Duke may not have the biggest campus, but there are definitely a lot of hidden gems.
So today we're asking people in Bryan Plaza what their favorite secret spots on campus are.
I'm Sarah and I'm a sophomore. I'm Isaiah and I'm a freshman.
And we're both interns on Duke students' YouTube team.
Let's go.
Can you tell me your name and your year?
My name is Andrew and I'm a freshman.
What is your favorite secret spot on campus?
So as a freshman living on East Campus, my favorite secret spot is Wilson Computer Lab.
It's a great place, open 24 hours for those late nights studying.
And when I didn't have a computer for like two weeks, I just went there.
So you primarily just go there to study?
Yep.
So why is it your favorite spot?
Because I'm at Duke, bro. I just don't do anything except for studying.
How often do you go there?
I used to go there almost like every single day, but now it's only like once a week.
This guy's there too sometimes.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Can you tell me your name and your year?
Yeah, I'm Wayne and I'm a sophomore.
Can you tell me your favorite secret spot on campus?
It's got to be Divinity School Library, second floor.
It's very quiet and secluded, so I get a lot of work done there.
I'd say a few tower, fifth floor.
You have like a study room and it's a 360 view, bird's eye view of the school.
It's like sick.
So how often do you go there?
Once a week, once or twice a week when I need to work and be alone.
Whenever I really need to lock in, so probably more around midterms, but like once a week probably.
Okay, thank you.
Can you tell me your name and your year?
My name is Dom and I'm a freshman.
And what is your favorite secret spot on campus?
I like the egg chairs in the Wellness Garden. It's a good place to relax.
So why do you go there, to relax?
Yeah, just kind of like de-stress online.
How often do you go there?
I don't know, when the weather's nice.
I don't know, once, twice a week.
I don't know.
Okay, thank you, Dom.
Have a good day.
Hi, what's your name and year?
I'm Julia and I'm a graduate student in the Divinity program.
Awesome.
So what is your favorite secret spot on campus?
So where I am right now is right outside the Panera and kind of in the corner by these
blue chairs.
So this is my favorite spot.
So why do you like this spot?
It's usually pretty empty and I like being able to put my feet up and
watch the trees and sit in the sun.
Totally.
So how often do you go to this spot?
Probably like two or three times a week.
And like what do you usually do here?
Just read and work on papers.
Cool.
Thank you so much.
You're welcome.
So hi, what's your name and year?
My name is Rania and I'm a freshman.
Cool.
So what is your favorite secret spot on campus?
There's like a patch of grass behind Southgate on East Campus and no one ever goes there
because there's not really anything there, but the grass is really nice and there's like
a small area with a bunch of trees and it's really cool to just like sit and relax back
there.
One time I found a random guy sleeping there.
He worked at like the Japanese restaurant, I think on 9th Street and I had an interesting
interaction with him, which was cool.
Nice man.
Now we're going to go to that restaurant and maybe see if he's there.
Awesome.
So like how often do you go to this spot?
Probably like two times a week, maybe.
I don't really know.
Awesome.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
All right.
So what's your name and year?
I'm Graham and I'm a junior.
Nice to meet you.
So what is your favorite secret spot on campus?
My favorite secret spot is probably York Reading Room.
It's in the Div school.
It's kind of like the vibes of Gothic, but like no one's ever in there.
It also has two pianos.
So if I ever need a study break, I can just do that.
Awesome.
So what do you mostly do there?
Usually just like reading, homework, whatever.
It's just a nice quiet spot where I can get stuff done.
Cool.
And how often do you go there?
I go there pretty frequently.
I used to go there a lot last semester.
This semester I haven't as much, but it's still usually one of my favorite places to go.
Awesome.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
What's up guys?
My name is Aythan.
My name is Tulio.
And we're going to be taking over from now on.
So let's go ask people more questions.
I'm here with my friend.
Helen.
Great.
Helen, what is your favorite secret spot on campus?
You're putting me on the spot for the secret spot.
It's not secret, but I feel like people don't go to it enough.
The Granger Hall rooftop that has a garden, solar panels.
It's a beautiful place to study.
And I'm an environmental science major, so I'm biased.
But it's a good place.
Is it like high up?
It's on the roof of the building.
So is it like a tall building or?
Like five, I think five floors up.
But there's an elevator.
So if you can make the trek to Granger Hall, definitely worth it.
At least once, especially to see the sunset on the roof.
Perfect.
Thank you so much.
Okay, I'm here with my friend.
Misha.
Awesome.
Misha, what is your favorite secret spot on campus?
I'd say it's probably in DC.
There's a lot of cool rooms to study well and your friends hang out.
That's perfect.
Are those rooms normally full or what?
No, they're always pretty empty because people usually study elsewhere.
So it's a nice spot.
Yeah.
Thank you.
I'm here with my friend.
Avi.
Hi.
Avi.
Okay, perfect.
Okay, what is your favorite secret spot on campus?
I think it's the magnolia tree in Kilgore Quad.
I used to work out there back in sophomore year when the gym was closed.
Beautiful.
Thank you so much.
All right.
Hello.
And I'm here with...
Luis.
All right, Luis.
What is your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot is right here.
The plaza, usually because that's where you can come on a nice sunny day,
especially during the fall when it's not too cold yet.
And, you know, you can just like hang out with your friends, do some casual work.
You just always run into people, say hi to everybody.
It's just a great time to hang out with people.
That's nice.
How often do you like coming here?
In the fall, when I don't have a lot of work every day.
Yeah, that's fair.
All right.
Thank you.
Hello.
And I am here with...
Rebecca.
What is your favorite secret spot on campus?
My favorite secret spot on campus are the study rooms on third and fourth floor of Hollows Bay.
Nice.
You like studying there?
Yeah, they're really quiet and the view is really pretty, especially for sunset.
And how often do you visit?
I live in Hollows A, so it was more often when I lived in Hollows B,
but I'll still go over like usually once or twice a week to get some good studying done.
Okay, nice, nice.
Thank you.
