There is a story about the Three-Wheeled Monk.
There was a famous Three-Wheeled Monk in the Tang Dynasty.
Why did people give him such a name?
It turned out to be like this.
Master Xuanzang was on his way to the Western Regions to get the scriptures.
He passed by a mountain forest,
and he saw a hazy figure.
He called someone in.
When he went in, he saw an old monk at the top of the mountain.
His head was covered with wild grass.
Master Xuanzang touched his chest with his hands.
His upper body was slightly warm,
and he used his eyes to make him come out of the top of the mountain.
The old monk opened his eyes and asked,
Who are you?
Master Xuanzang said,
I am Xuanzang.
How long have you been here?
The old monk closed his eyes and thought,
I have been here for a certain period of time.
I am waiting for Shakyamuni Buddha to come and visit me.
Master Xuanzang wiped his fingers and counted.
It was more than a thousand years.
He said to him,
Shakyamuni Buddha has passed away.
The old monk replied,
Let's wait for Maitreya Bodhisattva to appear.
I will go with him to practice Dharma.
Master Xuanzang thought and said,
Maitreya Buddha appears.
It will take 4.67 billion years.
I'm afraid you will miss the opportunity.
How about this?
Why don't you reincarnate now?
Wait for me to come back from the heaven.
Let's practice Dharma together and benefit the people.
What do you think?
The old monk nodded and said,
That's fine.
At the moment,
I will follow the instructions of Master Xuanzang
to reincarnate in the palace as the crown prince
and wait for Master Xuanzang's return.
Nineteen years later,
Master Xuanzang has gone through thousands of hardships
and traveled 50,000 miles to come back from the west.
He didn't forget the previous appointment
and went to the emperor
to look for the reincarnated old monk.
The emperor at that time was Emperor Taizong of Tang.
He was very surprised and said to Xuanzang,
I don't have a 19-year-old crown prince.
Later, he found out that the old monk had reincarnated in the wrong place
and reincarnated in the house of the minister Yuchi Gong.
So he summoned the young man
and asked him to follow Xuanzang to become a monk.
In fact, the old monk was obsessed with reincarnation.
He didn't remember anything about his previous life.
He was used to a life of intoxication.
He firmly refused to become a monk.
The emperor was furious.
If he didn't become a monk, he would be sentenced to death.
The young man had no choice but to agree.
But he made a condition
that three carriages must accompany him.
One carriage was in Jinyin Yuanbao.
One carriage was in Jiu.
One carriage was in Nubi.
Master Xuanzang knew
and agreed.
Then,
an interesting scene happened.
A handsome young man
rode a high horse
and followed three carriages
in a hurry.
He took care of the servants of Jiu
without showing off.
The people around him,
the mountains and the sea,
and the beautiful names of the monks on the three carriages
spread all over the streets.
It left a lasting impression in history.
At that time,
a carriage went to the temple of Shetan Tidu.
A loud bell rang
and woke the old monk up.
The memory of sleep in the history of Aranya
was that he had been practicing meditation for many years
and had not yet awakened his Buddha mind.
The spiritual nature of the wooden drum in the dust was aroused.
He fell off his horse
and repented in pain.
From then on, he devoted himself to returning to Buddhism
and practicing meditation.
He became a great disciple of Master Xuanzang
and was named Kui Ji.
Later, he became a great monk.
Master Kui Ji
practiced hard
because of his profound foundation.
Later, he achieved great achievements
and obtained the Bodhisattva position.
One day,
he visited Zhongnan Mountain
and visited the famous great monk Daoxuan.
Daoxuan was very strict
and had great merits.
He was moved by the offerings of the gods.
Every noon,
the gods and fairies came down to deliver food.
But strangely,
on the day Kui Ji came,
he waited until the afternoon
and didn't see the gods coming down.
Daoxuan was very upset
and had to starve with Kui Ji.
At night,
Daoxuan practiced meditation all night.
At night,
Master Kui Ji fell asleep
and didn't sleep well.
He even snored.
He was as cold as a thunder.
The next day,
Daoxuan's lawyer said to him,
The rules of a monk
are to meditate and meditate.
You snored and fell asleep.
Your arms and legs were sore.
You didn't have a good night's sleep.
Kui Ji said,
You didn't have a good night's sleep.
I didn't sleep well all night.
The lion in your waist
bit you.
You wanted to kill it.
But you couldn't kill it.
So you threw it to the ground.
It was too heavy
and broke one of its legs.
So it
cried
and cried all night.
It was so noisy.
Daoxuan's lawyer heard it
and was stunned.
He thought
he had seen my movements
and thoughts clearly in his dream.
What kind of power is this?
What kind of state is this?
He felt ashamed.
He didn't say anything.
When Master Kui Ji left,
Tianran came to send food again at noon.
Daoxuan asked,
Why didn't you come at noon yesterday?
I was hungry with my guests.
Tianran said,
I did come at noon yesterday.
But the whole mountain was covered with clouds.
There must be a Bodhisattva
in the sky.
Where can our little Tianran
come in?
Daoxuan was stunned again
and learned of Master Kui Ji's merits.
He achieved the different effects.
