(Premier League 2023/2024): Highlights Everton - Man City

So the world's best team have returned to the UK from Saudi Arabia to find themselves in the unusual position of fifth in the Premier League table and some eight points adrift of the leaders Liverpool. That said they've two games in hand on Jurgen Klopp's side and know that a win today at Goodison Park will take them back into the top four and within striking distance of the early Stones bore the sting of the Everton crowd which to be fair is very much behind their players because remember that 10 point deduction has left them just above the bottom three whereas without it they would be in the top five of the table. Now Grealish for the first time to attack gets into the area helps it into the gap good ball as well Alvarez hits it Foden hits it the first one was saved by Pickford the second one was blocked from Foden and that was a really good reaction saved by the England goalkeeper 14th minute 0-0 one good chance Everton were caught out lovely little ball from Grealish to Alvarez, Alvarez smashed it goal bound but Pickford reacted well and then Foden on the rebound with his shot blocked now Grealish darting forward tries to play it to Alvarez, Alvarez nicks it through real chance for Matias Nunez too close to the goalkeeper Alvarez then hits it goal bound and it goes wide for a corner well the first one I think Matias Nunez rather telegraphed it hit it straight at the goalkeeper the rebound from Alvarez deflected wide into the final third it goes but the ball to Foden is cut out and then up it goes to Beto, Beto doing what he tries to do which is hold off players but loses the ball Matias Nunez and Foden that's on towards Grealish, Grealish on the edge of the area now in in the penalty area prods it Pickford saves Matias Nunez couldn't control the rebound Bernardo Silva scoops in across headed away by Patterson again it was another good opportunity Walker now on the edge of the D plays it wide to Bernardo Silva sitting with all the attacking play so far Walker hits in a ball too close to Pickford and that attack comes to nothing in the end but not for the want of trying Grealish with a clever little toe bunger yeah he's uh he's caused them all sorts of problems he when he backs you into the box whether you can get a shot off or get a pass that time he does but I just think Nunez if he's on the if he's not on his heels he comes in there and just strokes that into the net just got to be a bit brighter there we've had now three four or five chances and um we haven't kept a clean sheet in six games and it's going to be so important that we put one of these away just to take the pressure off because these will get better and better as the game goes on the ball in the left wing position and on it goes towards the edge of the area City win it back and now they've lost it again McNeil clips in a low ball and Everton score turned in by Jack Harrison set up by McNeil City lose the ball in their own defensive third and two passes later it's in the back of their net well Andy mentioned that City have had a problem keeping clean sheets they trail 1-0 at Goodison Park yeah they just nicked the maybe a touch the wrong way it's been red and then McNeil's made a good decision you know it's very hard for for anyone to stay with that run with Harrison we look it back here now you know that's we're in comfy there Rodri nicks it but then this is a mistake and then there's no way Aki's getting back around and it's a it's a great finish now the ball's in the gap towards McNeil McNeil's into City's final third he turns and then he gets away from a couple of challenges lays it off to Garner wide it goes to Mikulenko suddenly Everton believe there are more goals and now they've won another corner and just at the moment City are just a little rocky we're 13 minutes from halftime Andre Gomez we know delivers a terrific ball whips it in and it's headed away but not very far in the shot he's then tipped over the bar by Edison it was Harrison again a loose ball in the box Harrison tried to bend it into the far corner with the outside of his boot and it's a decent save from Edison with his left hand tipping it over the bar I think it's better than decent I think it's absolutely world-class Rodri in the center circle clips it out to the left-hand side brings in Grealish Grealish in front of the City fans in this left-wing position Paterson up against him oh it's a poor lay-up straight to Harrison Harrison but he can't find a man and Kanji wins it back plays it in field on it goes to Rodri Rodri skips out wide to the right-hand side to Bernardo Silva on it goes to Matheus Nunez across the face of the goal and cleared in front of his own net by Tarkovsky and out for a corner that's a brilliant move typical City move the ball just drifted inside to Nunez and then it is a 50-50 chance I think City had three in there against Everton's one and really unfortunate they've not been able to finish that one but great play corner short on it goes to Foden on the edge of the area back it goes to Walker Walker helps it onto Grealish Grealish on the edge of the area plays it across to Foden Foden helps it along to Bernardo Silva Bernardo Silva in the right wing position plays it in field to Foden Foden steps in hits the shot in City equalize Phil Foden hit the shot from about 20 meters out beyond his international colleague Pickford and it is 1-1 at Goodison Park and just as they did at Luton Town in their last away Premier League game they get an equalizer in the opening minutes what a fantastic strike I don't think Pickford really appreciates the power that Foden I mean he's very relaxed drops his shoulder what a strike absolutely magnificent strike from Phil Foden and City are level Pickford hurled himself across got nowhere near it and now the Blues are in the ascendancy down the right side with Bernardo Silva on it goes to Alvarez back to Bernardo Silva scooped away by Mikalenko Alvarez picks it up in the right wing position gets beyond McNeil hits it in low right across the face of the goal oh that was the merest of touches it goes out City say it has to be a corner John Brooks gives a goal kick but again City so close Alvarez does so well do you know I think Phil probably disappointed that he hasn't got this on target what a ball Rodri on to Guardiola back to Rodri again wide it goes to Guardiola Guardiola looks up plays it across Patterson puts it out for a corner it really is a siege now Andy yeah there's like there's 30-35 minutes left and there's no way Everton can maintain this so another City corner their eighth of the contest Alvarez whips it in Pickford oh he didn't really get a good punch Foden drills it Ake on the turn that's a handball that's a penalty City say that's a penalty that's got to be looked at VAR penalties given the alliance went on the far side flagged it's a penalty all day long John Brooks got the signal from the assistant Everton are furious handball Onana let's have a look here's the replay yeah so Alvarez puffs out the cheeks steps up and it goes under the legs it wasn't the best penalty you've ever seen in your life but Pickford got legs on it couldn't stop it going in and the City fans who are just where the City players are on this near side just below the gantry they're going absolutely wild the Blues have turned it around in around about 17 minutes and they lead at Goodison Park by two goals to one ballers with Pickford 16 minutes to go Pickford thumping it long up towards the right wing position good first time layoff by Patterson on it goes to Harrison Harrison plays it in low and it's wide from Calvin Lewin City appeal for an offside it's not coming and Calvin Lewin puts it wide on the near post what a chance yeah I think it's offside we won't know I think it's offside because if he's not there I can't he can do he can just scoop the ball out but it looked offside again of course the last few games that they've drawn they've conceded goals late on they need a third here ball breaks for City on the edge of the area Bernardo Silva's put it into the empty net Pickford made an absolute howler tried to just pass it out on the edge of his own area gave it straight to Bernardo Silva Pickford was in no man's land and the ball's curled from well about 20 meters from goal beyond the despairing Pickford and into the back of the net England's number one goalkeeper makes a howler I suppose he might blame those around him anyway but Bernardo Silva wraps up the victory yeah well I think he's got to put his foot through it he's trying to be clever and he's just got I mean Alvarez has done brilliant but this is not easy you know this stage of the game it's a great bit of quality but Alvarez again go on look at look at the energy to go and break it down he takes credit but then the quality from Bernardo just to find that far corner is quite brilliant absolutely stunning finish from Bernardo Silva
