There's a Midtown Manhattan restaurant called Legacy and they may just offer the best steak
deal in New York City. For $45 one gets unlimited salad, fries, and ribeye steak. Yes, that's right,
unlimited steak. I just had to see if the deal was really all that it promised and I sure ate
a hell of a lot of steak. Today I'm here at Hudson Yards and right now I'm just relaxing
slash recovering from the very epic and filling meal I had earlier today for lunch. I went to a
special where for $45 one could get unlimited salad, fries, and ribeye steak. Yes, you heard
me right, unlimited ribeye steak. So this restaurant brings to mind a couple other restaurants in New
York City that have similar deals like Skirt Steak and the recently reopened L'Entrecote.
At Skirt Steak you get bread, a salad, unlimited fries, and steak for $45. I enjoyed my meal at
Skirt Steak but for $45 I don't think the price is worth it. When I first went it was $28 which
was quite a deal. The food is definitely good but for $45 I wouldn't recommend it. As an alternative
there's L'Entrecote and for their set menu one also gets bread, a salad, two servings of fries,
and two servings of steak. Although one usually gets about the same amount of steak as Skirt
Steak it's just served into two separate portions. At L'Entrecote they charge about $35 for their
meal and I thought it was definitely worth it and I really enjoyed the food especially that sauce
that was heavenly. But now with Legacy there's a new contender for the best steak deal in New York
City. The fact that at Legacy one gets unlimited steak kind of makes me think there's a catch to
it that it's too good to be true. I kept looking online and scouring reviews seeing if there's any
fine print that I was missing but it's legit they really mean what they say. One could eat as much
steak, fries, and salad as they want although I don't know who the hell would go there to eat
unlimited salad but yeah you can eat as much steak as you want and that's what counts. There is of
course nothing wrong with eating unlimited salad but I didn't do that. Anyways this is my meal at
Legacy. Located in Midtown Manhattan not far from Penn Station in the Macy's at Herald Square is
Legacy a restaurant situated in the Moxie Times Square Hotel. I first heard about the steak deal
from the restaurant's Instagram where they heavily promoted it and it definitely made me excited. I
was just waiting for the ideal day because I planned to put that unlimited claim to the test
so I made a reservation for lunch and showed up at noon on a Friday. The restaurant is on the hotel's
second floor and it's in a pretty nice looking space compared to L'Entrecote where you pretty
much sit shoulder to shoulder with your neighbor. Legacy has a much more spacious dining room to
enjoy a meal. Taking a look at the menu there are definitely some good looking options including
some appetizing daily specials but I was of course there for the steak. Now there are some
restrictions to the deal but they're pretty reasonable. You can't share your meal or get any
part of it for takeaway. In terms of beverages there were some intriguing cocktails like the MSG
Martini which really caught my eye since I love MSG and caviar however I was all about budget dining
on this visit so I stuck with water. After placing my order I didn't have to wait very long for my
food. Both my steak and salad came out at the same time. I kind of wish my salad would have come out
first since I wanted to eat that first and I didn't want my steak to sit too long. However I
decided that I would at least try a few bites of the salad and then turn my attention to the steak
whereas I would then treat the salad as a side rather than as an appetizer. The salad is a decent
size portion although considering I can order as much salad as I want portion sizes really don't
matter. As far as the components making up the dish there's lettuce of course but also radishes,
cucumbers, and tomatoes. I didn't think it was anything too special but at least it tasted
healthy which is nice because the rest of my lunch certainly wasn't. The biggest turnoff for me of the
dish was the vinaigrette which I thought was just a bit too acidic but still it was at least a decent
salad. It's also important to note that unlike skirt steak and lentil coat bread isn't included
with the steak deal but that's perfectly fine with me. Skirt steak and lentil coats bread was mediocre
at best and when I have the option of unlimited ribeye I don't want to waste any of my spare
stomach space on bread. And speaking of steak it was finally time to give it a try. While the ribeye
came with a few sauces I always prefer at least initially to try the meat just as it is.
The steak was pretty damn satisfying. Now it's nowhere near the quality of the boneless ribeye
I spent $79 for at Delmonico's but it was still very tasty. The meat had good flavor and it was
properly seasoned plus it was nice and juicy with pleasant layers of fat. Although while I asked for
the steak to be cooked at a medium rare the temperature was a bit more on the medium side
but it was still pretty good. The reality is if one is craving steak Legacy's offering would certainly
suffice. Alongside the ribeye are a couple of sauces and ketchup for the fries. However I do
understand that some people pair their steak with ketchup but that's one thing I sure as hell won't
ever do. One of the sauces was a Bearnaise and as expected it complemented the steak nicely with a
wonderful creamy richness. I like the green sauce even more than the Bearnaise. It was nice and
savory and had a bit of the same flavor as a chimichurri. It was also a sauce that paired
very nicely with the fries and speaking of the fries I enjoyed them as well. The fries had a
decent thickness and texture with a good solid flavor. In addition they were properly seasoned
Together with just one serving of the salad fries and steak Legacy provides a pretty satisfying meal
but I was going to put that all you can eat offer to the test. When I started my lunch I was given a
card that said more. Anytime that I desired additional food I would display the sign to
alert my server and she would ask what I would like. For my second helping I requested more fries
and steak. At first I was a bit confused why no one cleared my plates but as I was about to find
out the extra servings would actually be presented table side. In less than 10 minutes a server came
to my table bearing a sizzling plate of steak along with a bowl of fries. While I definitely
enjoyed my first serving of steak my second helping was even better. This time the meat was
cooked to a perfect medium rare and once again it was nice and juicy with a proper amount of
seasoning. There was also a fair amount of char on the top of the steak making for a pleasing
textural component. I was really enjoying the absolute hell out of my lunch. In terms of the
amount of meat it seems like each portion of ribeye is roughly more or less eight ounces which I feel
like is a pretty reasonable amount. Regarding my second serving of fries they were just as good as
my first. It was also clear that the fries came right out of the fryer when they were presented
to me. I really appreciated just how fresh everything was. Now two servings of steak and
fries would probably be enough for most people but I'm not like most people. I wanted more.
My plan was to eat so much that I would put cattle on the endangered species list. However
this time I just stuck with the meat and actually saved some of my fries for my last serving to pair
with the steak. I was running out of stomach space and I had to prioritize. In just under 10 minutes
I was presented with more ribeye. Round three here we go. Once again the steak was cooked and
seasoned just right. My third serving was just as good as my second. I always appreciated eating
nice food but also knowing that I was getting good value for my purchase made the experience
even more enjoyable. I think Legacy's unlimited ribeye deal is a good one especially if you can
eat a lot. Normally I would have loved to have finished my lunch with dessert. Something nice
and sweet. And I did have dessert. Although it wasn't sweet it was a savory steak. Although later
I did pop a mint in my mouth to cleanse my palate. After consuming roughly 24 ounces of steak,
two servings of fries and a salad I was satisfied. Although my competitive self was at the back of
my mind pushing for a fourth order of ribeye I didn't feel that it was necessary even though I
know I could do it. Instead I just asked for the bill which took a while for my server to actually
come to my table. The restaurant really filled up over the course of my lunch and she had a lot of
other customers to attend to. I kind of wished that I was provided with a card that said check
please which I could display. Regardless the wait wasn't too long. My bill came to $48.99
but with my tip I spent just under 60 bucks. Considering the quality and everything that I ate
I found that to be a fantastic deal. That was one satisfying lunch. I mean my stomach is full
and my wallet isn't empty. It was perfect. Without a doubt Legacy offers the best steak
deal in New York City right now. No question about it. Now it's great that the restaurant
offers unlimited steak but at the end of the day it has to taste good because no one really wants
to eat an endless amount of subway quality deli meat. Legacy steak definitely tasted good. It was
nice, fresh, properly seasoned, had good flavor. I really enjoyed it. Now obviously it's not up to
the quality of NYC's top tier steakhouses but for the price you're paying you can't complain.
It's pretty uncommon these days to walk out of a NYC restaurant and feel like I've gotten a lot
more than I paid for. Of course the value one derives from the restaurant is really down to
how much one is able to eat. Now in the past my philosophy when it came to buffets or anything
that offered unlimited food or drinks was that if I didn't feel absolutely terribly sick at the end
then I didn't get my money's worth. But recently I've kind of adjusted my thinking in that regards
because you know food is about enjoyment and I want to feel good after I finish a meal. I'm
definitely full but I know I could have had maybe one more portion of steak maybe some more fries
too but I am satisfied and that's what matters the most. Without a doubt Legacy is a great steak
deal. If you want steak and if you can eat a lot I highly recommend it. Also a lot of their other
courses on their menu looked really good. I mean one of the issues with like skirt steak
and a lot of Dakota is they pretty much only serve one thing so that really kind of limits
the amount of people that can actually dine at the restaurant. If your friend wants to eat fish
and chips and you want steak it's no problem at Legacy. Anyways I really enjoyed my lunch at Legacy
that unlimited steak deal that's legit it's a hell of a bargain and I can't wait to return to Legacy
it's an awesome restaurant.
