Dragon Cave: A 175 million-year-old historical site in Kochi Prefecture, Japan, renowned for its unique stalactite formations and designated as a National Natural Monument and Historic Site.
Dragon Cave is one of the most representative stalactite caves in Kochi Prefecture, Japan, designated as a National Natural Monument and Historic Site. The cave is 4 kilometers long, with 1 kilometer open for public viewing. Visitors can witness the magical stalactite structures and precious ancient relics in this 175 million-year-old historical site.
Inside Dragon Cave, there are many unique stalactite formations, such as the 10-meter-long ones resembling the Virgin Mary, Buddha, and waterfalls like the Jade Curtain, Urami, Oto-nashi, and Hiryu. Among them, the largest stalactite, named "Heavenly Stone," is 11 meters tall, making it the biggest stalactite in the cave. Additionally, Dragon Cave houses a precious ancient relic called "Kami no Tsubo," a household item left by our ancestors who lived in the cave 2,000 years ago. Thanks to the limestone formation, one-third of the pottery is buried in the stalactite, making it the only archaeological treasure in the world and the first-class treasure of Dragon Cave.
Near the exit, there is a light projection showcasing stunning animations projected onto the stalactite walls, depicting the long history of Dragon Cave. The animation fully utilizes the stalactites' lines to create a three-dimensional effect, giving the audience a sense of traveling between virtual and reality.
For adventurous visitors, Dragon Cave offers an adventure route led by staff. During the tour, visitors may have to crawl forward or climb stairs and ropes while touching rocks and stalactites. There is also a part of the tour where everyone turns off their lights to experience complete darkness. This is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Dragon Cave and experience adventure and excitement. Remember to reserve the adventure route with the Dragon Cave Preservation Society one day in advance.
During the tour of Dragon Cave, visitors can witness the treasures of Japan's ancient civilization and enjoy the beautiful scenery created by nature's craftsmanship. It is a perfect place for visitors to relax and experience the allure of nature.
