At 11 years old, Olivia Kleid is obsessed with beauty products. Kleid’s mom says the teen beauty boom stems from online influencers. However, when she took her to buy skin care products, Kleid’s mom was shocked at how much things cost. Dermatologist Dr. Rose Marie Ingelton says "Glycolic acid products are wonderful, but they [teens] should be supervised by a dermatologist and generally they don't need it yet.” She suggests young girls stick with a simple cleanser, toner and a moisturizer with sunscreen.
All she wants for the holidays is, well, not toys,
but skincare products.
All I wanted this year was skincare and makeup.
11-year-old Olivia Clyde is obsessed
with beauty products.
She showed us her routine.

I think social media has a lot to do with it.
So I think Instagram, TikTok,
sharing things on social media,
watching YouTubers, celebrities' children.
When I was interviewing parents,
I had one dad tell me that he's spending $1,000 a month
on his daughter's skincare habit.
When I went to take her to buy skincare products,
I think I had a little bit of sticker shock
in just how much things cost.

for later in life.

has a warning for preteens.
The kind of products that I would recommend
that they avoid at this age would be things like retinols.
They don't need that yet.
Glycolic acid products, wonderful,
but they should be supervised by a dermatologist
to use those.
Generally, they don't need it yet.
She suggests young girls stick with a simple cleanser,
toner, and a moisturizer with sunscreen.
Olivia says forget Barbie,
just bring on the lip gloss for the holidays.
