A new pitcher has joined the Los Angeles team, and the Dodgers are excited to welcome superstar Shohei Ohtani to his new home. @christinaxnews
Shohei Otani is here at Dodger Stadium and is set to officially wear Dodger Blue.
The Dodgers are welcoming him just five days after signing the largest contract in sports
history.
The Dodgers hosted a press conference to formally present the current All-Star MVP as part of
their team.
Shohei is arguably the most talented player who's ever played this game.
As we went through this process to get a sense for just how passionate he is about this game,
it really stood out to us.
You could feel the importance of winning, and we knew that winning a lot was going to
be a really important thing to him.
Otani expressed his gratitude and shared why he chose to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
I would like to thank the Los Angeles Dodgers organization for giving me the opportunity
to play here and believing in me as a baseball player.
I can't wait to join the Dodgers, they share the same passion as me, they have a vision
and history all about winning, and I share the same values, so I just can't wait to
join the team and get it going.
Otani tells us how he made his final decision.
I made my announcement on Instagram, and I made my decision the night before I made the
announcement.
I met with a few teams at the end of the whole negotiation process, and honestly every team
I met with and I had a chance to talk to, they were all great, and it was really, really
a tough decision for me, but at the end of the day I had to choose one team and the Dodgers
were my choice.
Viewers received a first look at Otani's name featured on the back of the Dodgers jersey,
which broke Fnatic's record for highest sales within the first 48 hours of release.
And when asked about the die-hard Dodgers fanbase...
I don't know too much about the fanbase, but I'm willing to learn, and even when I
was playing with the Angels, when the Dodgers come in town, like half of the stadiums, like
blue, all blue, so in that sense I feel that they're very, very passionate fans.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said...
It's great to have the highest of expectations, so it's just a great day for all Dodgers fans.
A fan shared what they thought about Otani's 10-year, $700 million contract.
I'm a players guy.
I say they deserve every penny they make because some people say no one's worth that amount
of money, but if the Dodgers didn't think he was worth it, they wouldn't have given
him that money.
Although Otani won't be pitching this season, he says he'll be ready for opening day for
hitting some home runs.
