Hey you guys, I'm Steven and I'm Giselle and today we're going to be showing you guys a
comparison between the Sky Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon.
These are two of the most popular tourist destinations and so we figured we would show
you exactly what you're paying for at both locations so you can decide which one is right
for you.
Iceland is famous for touristy lagoons, but did you know there are actually over 45 natural
hot springs and more than 200 swimming pools around the entire country?
Today's video is only going to be covering the two most notable lagoons near Reykjavik,
the Blue Lagoon and the new Sky Lagoon, but there are tons of other amazing hot springs
which are actually free.
Now before we get into the actual lagoon experiences, there are some things you should definitely
know before you go.
The first thing is showering.
It's actually the law all over Iceland that you must shower naked before entering the
geothermal pools.
Immediately the shower experience is very different.
Sky Lagoon is a lot more like clean, organized, like very peaceful, relaxing and Blue Lagoon
because it's so much busier is a little chaotic and a lot of new people.
So if you are not comfortable with public nudity, you might want to find your own corner
here.
Second one is hair care.
So I didn't know this was a thing before we went, but be wary of the Blue Lagoon's effects
on your hair.
Even though it has great skin care benefits, the silica can really make your hair stiff
and unmanageable afterwards because of mineral buildup.
So if you get your hair wet, just make sure to apply their conditioner before you get
in the water in the showers and afterwards.
And immediately once you get out, wash, rinse and deep condition your hair after.
And then price.
So some hot springs in Iceland are free.
We went to a hot spring called Fosslag Hot Springs.
There's tons of other ones as mentioned previously, but these two are not.
And we'll go over prices in just a little bit.
The Blue Lagoon was named one of the 25 wonders of the world by National Geographic.
And it's perhaps the most famous for its gorgeous blue waters.
The watercolor is actually a result of the way that the silica reflects sunlight, giving
it this beautiful teal turquoise color.
The Blue Lagoon is particularly notable for its use of geothermal seawater in which silica,
algae and minerals are present.
And that's what their facial mask experience really tends to cover.
This is the lava one we are starting off with.
If you get the premium package, you get three face masks included.
So there's a lava, a hydrating mask and an algae mask.
Next mask up.
Ooh, this one's looking nice.
Silica mud mask.
This one's way smoother already.
The other one was kind of harsh.
It's very refreshing.
My man doing skincare.
Time for mask number three.
Number three.
Cheers.
Updates.
This one is definitely deeper than the Sky Lagoon.
If you go through the auction, I'm having three different face masks instead of the
Ritual Sky Lagoon.
This one's definitely warmer, but this one's also a lot bigger.
So even though there's a lot of people, it seems like everyone still kind of has their
own space, which is super nice.
By the time the water reaches the lagoon, it's actually around 100 degrees Fahrenheit
or 38 degrees Celsius, and it's super pleasant water temperature.
The Blue Lagoon offers three different day packages that you can purchase, and they range
all the way from $53 up to $372 if you are going for the very luxury experience.
We opted to buy the premium package at $68, and that included quite a bit for our experience.
So you get all three, plus a drink, plus towels and flip flops to walk to the lagoon in.
We are on our last face mask.
We just finished our drinks, and there's drinks, there's alcoholic drinks like beer, wine,
and sparkling cider and stuff like that, but there's also smoothies, green juice, sodas
for kids, all that kind of stuff too.
So definitely a variety of options, and yeah, we're just going to enjoy and wait until our
last face mask is off, and then we will be good to go.
Sky Lagoon is brand new to the game and located right in the heart of Reykjavik.
It is a gorgeous facility that overlooks the North Atlantic Ocean with a beautiful infinity
pool style lagoon.
Their packages run from $55 to $110, and we were graciously hosted with the Sky Pass,
which was definitely an incredible experience.
The Sky Pass is their most premium package.
The Sky Pass gives you access to their private changing room with private showers and changing
facilities, and this pass also includes the ritual.
Although if you still don't mind public changing rooms and you want to save some money, the
Pure Pass, which is their medium package, would be a great option so you can still experience
the ritual.
Difficult experience so far, the lagoon is beautiful and busy too.
Yeah, pretty busy right now, probably around like 50 to 75 other people here as well.
And it's like 6.45, so tons of room to explore and make your own little area though.
So we're going to finish our drink and go check out the ritual.
The ritual is a seven-step process, and this is what the Sky Lagoon is all about.
Whereas the Blue Lagoon offers facial masks, Sky Lagoon offers this full-body experience.
Here's a little bit of a glimpse into it.
So the ritual is seven steps.
The first step is obviously slowing down, relaxing, and getting inside the lagoon.
And then next up, you are going to take a cold plunge that is right next to the lagoon,
and it is cold.
Apparently, it was supposed to be 4 degrees, 5 degrees.
So it definitely shocks your body.
Next up on step three, you relax with a view in the sauna, and this is a gorgeous sauna
that overlooks all of the ocean for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Then you'll go into a refreshing cold fog mist next to the sauna, followed by a sky
body scrub in which you will exfoliate your skin.
And then once you exfoliate, you step on into the steam room and you sit in there for a
few more minutes with your scrub on.
First impressions?
I was relaxing.
I'm very shocking on the body.
I feel like the Sky Lagoon is definitely more to relax and to have that calming experience,
whereas the Blue Lagoon is much prettier and much more touristy, but it's still such a
bucket list item.
So overall, it definitely felt more upscale than the Blue Lagoon and more private.
That could be just because we did a little more of the premium package there, but Blue
Lagoon's waters were so incredible, just a little bit more touristy, and we highly
recommend checking them both out if you get the chance, as well as some of the other free
hidden gems along the entire Ring Road.
It just really depends on what kind of experience you're going for.
Overall, I'm feeling so relaxed.
Yes, I would highly, highly recommend doing this, especially if you drive the Ring Road
like us.
We've been on the road for the past six days, haven't showered, been sweaty, been hiking,
we've been van-lifing it.
So this actually feels like heaven.
Definitely shocks your body a little bit between the heat and the chills that they push you
through, but super nice, super relaxing.
Would definitely recommend checking out Sky Lagoon, it's beautiful, and you're going to
have a great time.
You just want to come and kick it and relax after the rest of your trip to Iceland, or
if you want to kick it off that way, but like Stephen said, putting this at the end of your
trip will definitely be rewarding.
And we have been here for about two, we started our reservation at six, we've been here for
about two hours, and feel like we've had a drink, we checked out all the areas, we did
the ritual, yeah, so I think that probably about two to three hours is what you should
estimate if you guys are trying to plan on how long to stay here, but you could stay
here all night, the drinks are good, it's a nice vibe, you're literally looking at where
the sun goes down.
Yeah, it's great.
Definitely check out Sky Lagoon on your next visit to Iceland.
Well you guys, it's raining, but it still feels great because we're in the lagoon.
Would definitely recommend the Blue Lagoon, I think over the Sky Lagoon just because it's
got that classic blue water.
