Empty Boat.....

A monk decided to meditate alone, far from his monastery.

He took his boat to the middle of the lake, moored it there, closed his eyes and began to meditate. After several hours of uninterrupted silence, he suddenly felt the impact of another boat crashing into his own.

With his eyes still closed, he felt his anger rising, and by the time he opened his eyes, he was ready to scream at the boatman who had carelessly disturbed his meditation. But when he opened his eyes, he was shocked to find that it was an empty boat that had hit his boat. The boat may have broken free and slid into the middle of the lake.

At that time, the monk had an extraordinary realization. He understood that anger was inside him; it only took the impact of something from outside to provoke anger to emerge from him. From then on, every time he encountered someone who annoyed him or provoked him to anger, he would remind himself that the other person was just an empty boat, the anger was within him.
