What do we have here Quinn got some 39 inch BFG muds things are sick
Dude, these things look massive you just holding them. It's like what?
So these are going on a Tacoma
And oh, yeah, can you say that again? These are going on a Tacoma, baby
How's it going everyone? Welcome back to the Tacoma Beast channel where as you all know, it's all about the taco in today's video
I am just extremely excited. This is something that I've been wanting to do for the longest of time
I'm here with Quinn the owner of 74 welds. You're doing you're making a lot of noise in this industry, man
Trying what are we doing today?
So today we're gonna throw portals on this Tacoma and make room for some big tires, dude. I'm excited
What am I gonna be able to do with portals harder bigger obstacles?
so the big thing is we'll be able to give it lift without messing up the suspension and
We're gonna throw a 39 on this thing and see how it goes
Dude Quinn when I reached out to him and called him I was like, hey, man, what tire size should I go with?
I heard you're doing 37s. He said man, let's go big
Let's try to fit 39s and that's exactly what we're gonna try to do today. You ready? I'm ready. Let's get started
Alcons got a nice setup up here
Little bit dirty no sway bars. No, are we gonna need him? Nope makes my life just a little bit easier
So what's the first thing that's got to come off? So we're gonna pull rotors
Calipers get this stuff out of our way. We're gonna pour upper and lower ball joints as well as our tie rods and
Pull this upright right off. Cool
Guys quick side note if you're gonna take your truck to a shop make sure you clean it
Before you bring it to them. Don't be me. Don't be that guy. Make sure you bring your truck nice and clean to the shop
She's not seized in there
So
Our stock at CV here is a little bit too long
So we're gonna put a spacer here and put our nut down and then we're gonna cut it right at the end of the nut
That way everything fits inside of the portal perfectly
So this is literally the only cutting that you'll do in the whole kit. We do no welding at all
But you just have to trim that axle shaft. Oh, not bad. Let's get to it
Look at that guys
Perfection
There it is fellas Christmas came early for me. Check out those portal axles. You guys ready to install them? Yeah
So, I thought it was gonna be rocket science installing these portals I really thought we were gonna have to
Start cutting a lot of things and the only thing you really have to cut is the end of your CV axle
The engineers here at 74 welds have done it where they know exactly
Where they need a cut and that it won't affect the performance of the vehicle as a matter of fact
it's gonna help their portal axles sit where they need to be and
Honestly, it was as simple as doing a suspension install in the front in the back
You get a little bit more technical having to remove the hubs, right?
But honestly not hard at all a shop will be able to do it in no time
So, yeah, I mean basically just take your factory spindle your whole upright off bolt the portal on
Stub shaft slides right through the gear
money
Queen has convinced me to go to 39 inch tires and
You're already you're already rubbing with 35s a hair, but here's the thing
We're gonna go with a higher with a deeper offset wheel
And yes, we'll definitely because my 37s clear here you actually rub more on 35s than I do with 37s
And that's because I dropped the centerline of this down. And so as it swings, it's swinging lower, right?
And so if you did that with a conventional lift, you still get all up travel and no down travel
So with this you're still getting good equal travel
Out of it, you just get more height because of the portal and look at this guys
no lift
This is with no lift
We're gonna be able to fit
39s, baby
At least let's try it. No, we'll make it fit. You ready? Oh, yeah
Yeah, we'll make it fit
Today's video is brought to you by onyx off-road for less than a tank of gas

So whether you're an experienced off-roader or just starting out onyx off-road has you covered?
What are you doing now?
So a little bit of red loctite on this
Right in there make sure it doesn't come loose
Everything's super tight, but it all fits it fits beautifully though
Yeah, look at that
Perfect
There she is
And we got a little cap that goes over it and seals are in place with an o-ring
All right, so now that we got this axle nut on here tightened down
We have an o-ring that goes here and it's going to seal the front of our portal just that fits perfect
That's a perfect fit
my god
The engineering team that they have and just how meticulous they are at developing a product a part
The pieces that are going on my tacoma are just state of the art
I got into the tacoma market
I bought a tacoma and I saw it as a platform that I thought could absolutely use the tech that we have
So I started kind of browsing around I met tacoma beast at overland expo
immediately liked the guy hit it off and so it was just kind of a natural progression and
You know, absolutely the first guy I wanted to work with
That was 130 pounds
I don't remember we're going to torque up or lower ball joints and tie rods and get the front end as close to buttoned up
As we can 80 for the top
What are you doing for this one and get it up to 67
There it is we're going to do some brakes now
We're going to throw this rotor on and the caliper as well and we're giving you an upsized caliper and rotor
This is a four runner setup. So it's a little larger and give you a little more stopping power
So let's get this thing bolted on
As uh chad just told you guys these are four runner calipers and rotors
As you guys know, we have the alken six piston caliper with the upgraded rotor
Which we won't be able to install today because the bracket that holds the caliper. It's just does not fit
Uh 74 welds portals, right? So i'm going to leave that behind so they can do the research
And then they'll send me that back so I can put the awkward back in
um
Yeah, most likely what we'll do this bracket that you bolt on from the alcon
Uh, we'll make a new one of these that integrates right into the front of our portal
That way this whole system can bolt right on that way
You guys can also have more options right if you guys want to go with the willwood
Yeah, uh, you know calipers and rotors you can go with alken and then we're trying to see if we can also get power brakes
In the line, that would be sweet any brake options more options for you guys
So it's going to come with a extended stainless braided line that'll come right out of your caliper at 90 right here
It'll run right up the portal box and plug right into your factory bracket here
sweet
Nice and easy. It's looking good, man
Cable management all around the portal just how the wheel speed sensor lays so perfectly there
They have a breather hose. Everything just looks beautiful and how
A piece would normally look when it comes from the factory
All right, so we vent everything on our portals and on the front here
So we have a couple tapped holes and p clamps
So we'll run a three-eighths vent line right up the top into the engine bay and if you come up here
It's going to come right up top and it's going to sit right here. I'm going to throw a zip tie on this guy
And why is that?
What's that for really?
So we have a long long vent line here
So oil can come up and back down and stay in the system and everything stays happy
All right, fellas, we're almost finished so much has been going on
We're going up to 39 inch tires with the 22 percent reduction and we have 529 gears. It is going to set us a little low
But until we don't get the truck on the road, we won't really know it is going to be trial and error
I might have to switch out the leaf springs as well
Slow and steady
We're going to figure it out until we get the truck nice and dialed to where it needs to be
And then from there, I cannot wait to just take it out on the trails
And just go ham. I'm really excited. The truck is going to a new level
A new level of driving new level of everything and i'm honestly really stoked
All right, guys, we're gonna move to the rear
We're gonna pull these tires off and we're gonna start taking some stuff apart getting ready to put some portals on
Damn dude, look at that. Look at how filthy my drum brakes are guys that just like
Fell down. It was crazy ready
Good thing is we won't be needing these anymore
I didn't actually realize this until I bought a 23 tacoma and looked at it and said holy cow
It has drum brakes on it. So we can't ever use a drum brake on any of our portals. It just doesn't work
So we automatically upgrade you to a larger it's a custom made
two-piece rotor and
A willwood caliper with a mechanical parking brake built into the caliper
And then we provide you all the cables to hook up to your factory console. So you still get your factory parking brake
It's just part of our kit. It's not an up charge. It's not an add-on. It's just included with everything
All right, so we got the brakes apart our parking brake cables out of the way
So next we're gonna pull the four bolts that hold it to your axle housings
Um, i'm gonna put the drum brake on backwards that way once all these bolts are loose
I can slide hammer it out of the housing
But we have our brake line up top that we're gonna have to crack and pull first
But before you crack this make sure we pinch our lines up top where they're soft that way
We don't drain the system and we can keep uh, we don't have to bleed brakes as much
All right guys i'm excited portals are going on the back look how beautiful that piece is
Look at that fit
Beautiful
All right. Now that we got the portal in here
We are going to torque these nuts down to 38 foot pounds and uh, we'll move to brakes from there
But as a portal install, that's it
Tire delivery guys
Our bmt's are here
Let's confirm and make sure they're the right size
Let's check it out 39 by 13.5 on a 17 inch wheel
We're going to be rocking kmc's now. We're going bead locks
I needed them to be positive 25. You can also do positive 35
Those will be back from powder coat real soon
While we continue to work
on the rear end
So with the kit we do a two-piece rotor it's an aluminum hat that we make in-house
And then we have a custom rotor made for it so it's a larger diameter and it's a directional vented rotor
Specifically designed for this kit
to work with a willwood radial mount
caliper with an integrated parking brake
so this whole setup will
Just plug and play
and
Work pretty good a little nicer caliper
Integrated parking brake so you still get your factory
parking brake inside the cab
Just the fact that I have rotors in the back
I'm, like absolutely in love with and these are nice and beefy like look how big these are guys
Yeah, this is not just uh, well and they're directional vented too
So if you look at the top you can see most calipers
From oe are straight vane. These actually will pull air in and do a better job cooling
So it's definitely a brake upgrade
All right
Rear calipers fit good
So you'll get a factory parking brake
You'll get a better willwood caliper on the rear you get a disc brake conversion and this also converts the rear to a full float
so
the whole rear now
The weight is carried on the wheel bearing the torsion is only carried on the shaft
That is amazing I did not know
Yeah, no, so it makes the whole rear a stronger setup and you're 35 spline up here
So if you ever decide that you want to put
Like a beefier third in there
You're essentially the strength of an inch and a half 35 spline shaft and that comes standard
So a little bit of routing we'll finish routing vent lines up to breathers
Um, we'll route the parking brake cable and tie that into your factory lever inside the cab
And I think we still have to put oil in this one
But that's about it. All right, chad. What are we doing for oil man?
We use maxima pro gear full synthetic 75 90. It comes provided with all of our kits
We give you enough to do a first run flush
We recommend after a few hundred miles and then it takes 10 ounces of oil. So almost nothing
It's a very little amount of oil. So
A consistent oil change is pretty key. We recommend every like 3 000 miles, which it seems like not very many miles
but again, it's a little bit of oil it gets dirty quick and it's a quick oil change we have a
Drain plug at the bottom and a fill plug at the top again 10 ounces of oil pull your tires off change your oil
It's routine maintenance. It's going to keep everything fresh and keep everything running good
Ready, what do we have here? Quinn got some 39 inch bfg muds
on some super sexy
Kmc impact forged bead locks things are sick, dude. These things look massive. You're just holding them. It's like what?
So these are going on a tacoma
So the portals are installed in the front in the back quinn and I are really excited to see if the 39 inch tires are
Going to fit. We know we have to do some trimming
I'm excited and I cannot wait to see what we have to do in order to make them fit. Look how nicely tucked
The caliper is guys
What do you think man? Oh, I think it looks freaking insane
It looks so sick
These wheels are probably my favorite wheel right now second tires going on. Yeah, he's got the stickers
Because I only have
All right moment of truth
How's the front gonna look already looks gnarly the back's looking insane guys just
absolute
Killer look at that
It's a monster truck
We'll have to make an extra inch of room over my truck on the firewall, which isn't that big of a deal
But we're gonna have to do a little cutting
You might actually cut up here a little too we'll see for sure front bumper, I don't know for sure front bumper might be okay
for sure rear bumper
She's sitting on the ground let's go
That is sick dude, those tires are so good
That's such a good package
Look at that. Hey, nobody else is doing that. Wait, not even nobody else is doing this. Nobody's doing that
Let's put it onto the pump wait does a beer can fit
We got one in the fridge. No, wait, don't tell me we can do that in the back, too
We can do that in the back too no, that is gnarly it's pretty good
That's a full lock because you clear everything except one tiny little corner that's on 39th
Wait, wait, wait
Did you guys just see that that's on 39th
You see that and we're just gonna have to bear
barely cut now I have
Been banging that up pretty hard lately and I do have a body mount relocation kit, which thank god for all that stuff
All right, fellas. Here she comes
It looks so nice the way it sits right there
Yeah, it looks really good
We need to highline cut the fenders that
all the way
That'll give us clearance in the front and we'll do the same thing in the rear. We'll cut from here up
around
Down trim the back bumper. It'll frame the tire better
Yeah, it looks good
guys, the truck is looking absolutely
Incredible just seeing it come off the lift was completely different
We were already amazed how it looked inside the lift and the second it just came out. It was just
Mind-blowing. I am completely stoked with how the truck looks
But most important of all how it's going to perform
Thank you
Saving saving some lives
So there's a couple bolts that we remove
We pop this off. You'll probably break a couple clips in the process. You're actually missing a few
Not a big deal
We'll trim this
To that high line right there
We'll put it back on we'll mark sheet metal and then we'll trim sheet metal
Let's do it
So I use this block to sharpie out our line
It gives you a nice clean path all the way through
We stick it up here
And scribe a line so we'll just come up quarter of an inch
half an inch above that and trim
all along here
And that'll give you a nice clean look and your fender flare will go on and you won't see sheet metal underneath it
You guys are watching the artist create a masterpiece
The funny thing is he's a genius when it comes to creating portals him and his team
And here you see him just cutting the fenders being very meticulous about it being a perfectionist
I just love how it's coming out. He's awesome
But that's a rough cut
Looks good. I'm liking it. Yeah
So look at that guys. That's what we're dealing with here at full lock
It literally so we just if we just basically cut from here down carry this line to the rock rail
And cut out the firewall plate it we should be good
All right, quinn tell me what did we do to fit these 39 inch tires man?
So we had to do a bit of trimming on the front
Um, we trimmed about maybe what half an inch three quarters of an inch off the front bumper because it sat back to here
So we cut that back. We did a high line cut on these fenders that tapers back
We had to do a little bit of trimming on the firewall down low move that back plate it
So that's the front and it looks like it clears good
on the rear
We did nothing. So you already had a cut from this high clearance bumper
at full stuff with a forklift
I can get a finger in between the bumper and the tire and a finger in between the front
The bedside and the tire and so air down off road
You will get more flex than that when you get into situations the cab moves the chassis moves
Um, it'll always move a little more but I think if you are going to rub there
It's going to be minimal kissing and I don't really see that as an issue
Now you have you did this on a stock tacoma stock front bumper stock rear. Yeah on 37s
How much did you have to cut off? So I had to trim
the
The fenders on the front I had to I didn't do a high line cut
I had to trim the back section of the fender
I had to take a hammer and hit the firewall back a little bit, but I never cut the firewall on mine
Um on the front side, so I still have my whole inner fender liner
I had to trim sections of that but the whole top side of it and most of the front back are still intact
It is a little bit of trimming on the front to fit a 37, but you're not cutting the firewall
With anything you have to do the body mount relocation
But that's just standard in the tacoma world. You go to 33s. You're doing that body mount relocation
So 37 is the new 35 37 is the new 35 for a tacoma. Absolutely
All right, guys
We got mateo's tacoma dialed in on 39s and portals
