Hi I'm Marisol Foucault and today we'll be preparing overnight oats.
I like to start with all my liquids. We decided today to use almond milk but up to you if you
want to use whole milk, macadamia nut milk, whatever milk. So I am going to pour in one cup
of milk in my bowl. You see that my bowl is pretty big. I like to use bigger bowls so I don't make a
mess. I probably will still make a mess. So here we go. One cup of almond milk. Then grabbing some
yogurt. We are using some plant-based yogurt today but again you use whatever you have in your fridge
and whatever you like using. So two-thirds of a cup of yogurt. Then protein. I like to use
nut butters. If you're bringing this to school or an environment where you can't have nuts obviously
skip this part. So one or two nice teaspoons of almond butter. If you keep your almond butter in
the fridge when it's time to mix you might want to use one of these. So an immersion blender will
help you break up the almond butter. If not, if you're using it room temp then you can use a whisk.
So I would whisk away just a tiny bit. Then adding some sweeteners. Sweetener is again up to you. I
like using maple syrup and if you want you can also use honey. So like a generous tablespoon
of maple syrup. Giving it a mix and we can also add some more protein. If you have someone at
home that needs an extra boost of protein or if you are training you can add some protein powder.
So adding one teaspoon, one generous teaspoon of protein powder in here. Also I like adding
zest. So for this recipe I'll add orange zest. It really adds like that little extra something
that makes it absolutely delicious. So wash your citrus before adding it. I like using a microplane.
If you don't have one of these at home you will want to buy one. It is my favorite kitchen tool.
So adding half, about half an orange, maybe a bit more. Again you'll do this recipe again and again
and you will adjust it to your taste. Then something good for your gut. You can either go for flax or
chia seed. One, two, two teaspoons of chia seed in here. Why am I adding chia seed at the end?
Because if you add it too early in the recipe it will just form one big clump. So I like adding it
at the end with my liquid and giving it a stir as soon as I add it. Then oats. Use whole oats,
not quick oats. It makes a difference. If you use quick oats then it's really mushy.
I like to add whole oats so it still has a nice bite to it, has texture. One cup of whole oats
and there you go. How long did this take? Two minutes maybe. So you are ready to put this in
If you don't want to be doing individual portions like we did, we did an individual portion right
here. You can also just pour it into one big container and then spoon it out in the morning
and add different toppings. If you want to be using some fruit that don't store as well or
that don't keep as many days, I suggest that you only pour in the overnight oats. If you think
you'll eat it the next day or maybe just the following day also, you can put your fruit in.
But don't add your fruit for like say three, four days in advance. If you are serving people that
love fruit, you can do it into layers. So this is what we've done here. I like to just layer the
fruit and the overnight oat so you get more of a fruity taste in there. So this might make a mess.
Embrace the mess. And just layer whatever fruit you have or nuts also and it's as simple as that.
The containers we got come with really neat little inserts
so that if you don't fill it as much, you can put these inserts inside and put your nuts
so that your nuts stay like really nice and crisp and then you close it up and you have your nuts.
So if you know that you're in a rush in the morning, add your nuts right now and close this
up. If you know that you'll have more time, take the time to add your nuts the next day so they'll
stay nice and crispy. As I said also, you can store your whole oats in a big container.
So just pour it into a big container, put something over it, put it in the fridge and then
serve everyone the next day. I would say this stores max three days. If you're doing four days,
you're pushing it a tiny bit. Just for texture, like I like to still have that nice like oat
texture. So as you saw, this was a really easy recipe. Quick, versatile, you can adapt it to
whatever you like and hopefully you do it again and again. Enjoy your oats and bon appétit!
