Hello guys, this is Tim Solo from Ahrefs, and today I want to show you how to track your keyword rankings.
Because when you do search engine optimization and build backlinks to your site,
you want to know if all these efforts are moving your site up in the search results.
So you're watching episode number 18 of the oversimplified SEO.
Okay, there are actually tons of different rank tracking tools, and if you google for
rank tracker
You'll find quite a few different options and each of them has its pros and cons
But if you're using Ahrefs
We have our own tool for tracking your keyword positions
Which is called positions tracker and it can be found at your dashboard
Under the positions tracker tab. So as you can see for every website that I have added to the dashboard
I can track the keyword positions. So here are the keyword positions for my website called tweetthis.com
As you can see the first column
Shows different keywords that I'm interested in then I can put different locations because as you may know
Google will show you different positions based on the location where you're searching for this keyword
Then you see the actual position in Google then mobile rank because when you're searching on your mobile device
The rank might be different and of course the actual URL that is ranking at this position
Okay
Let's say I need to add a few more keywords to this list to find out how well my website is
Ranking for these keywords in Google. So I click the button add keywords and
There's a field where I put my keywords for example
tweet
Quotes and then I I have to specify the location
Let's track this keyword in
United
States and let's also track it just for the sake of this tutorial in United Kingdom
Okay, and they click done. So here's what we have now
Here's the position of the tweet quotes keyword in the United States
It shows me position number eight and the same keyword tweet quotes in the United Kingdom
Position number eleven. So as you can see, I rank a little worse in
The United Kingdom and the last cool feature that I wanted to show you is the history chart
That you can open by clicking this little button on the right side of your report
So this is the progress chart for
tweet this plug-in keyword and
You can pretty much see the positions history starting from the 9th of November
Which is when this keyword was added to the tool and pretty much till today
This kind of report is especially valuable when you're doing a SEO for a client and you need to show him how your efforts
Are pushing his website up in Google search results
So this was a pretty short episode, but I hope you learned something from it
Anyway, if you have any questions about search engine optimization
