巫蠱之禍是漢武帝在位後期發生的一次重大政治事件，巫蠱為一種巫術。當時人認為使巫師祠祭或以桐木偶人埋於地下，詛咒所怨者，被詛咒者即有災難。
征和二年（西元前91年），丞相公孫賀之子公孫敬聲被人告發為巫蠱咒武帝，與陽石公主通姦，公孫賀父子下獄死，諸邑公主與陽石公主、衛青之子長平侯衛伉皆坐誅。武帝寵臣江充奉命查巫蠱案，用酷刑和栽贓迫使人認罪，大臣百姓驚恐之下胡亂指認他人犯罪，數萬人囙此而死。
江充與太子劉據有隙，遂趁機陷害太子，並與案道侯韓說、宦官蘇文等四人誣陷太子，太子恐懼，起兵誅殺江充，後遭武帝鎮壓兵敗，皇后衛子夫和太子劉據相繼自殺。壺關三老和田千秋等人上書訟太子冤，終於清醒過來的武帝夷江充三族，燒死蘇文。又修建“思子宮”，於太子被害處作“歸來望思之臺”，以志哀思。此事件牽連者達數十萬人，史稱巫蠱之禍。

Jiang Chong, the favorite Minister of Emperor Wu, was ordered to investigate the witchcraft case and forced people to plead guilty with torture and planting. The ministers and the people were frightened and randomly pointed out that others had committed crimes, and tens of thousands of people died.
Jiang Chong had a gap with Prince Liu Ju, so he took the opportunity to frame the prince. He told Hou Han and eunuch Su Wen that they framed the prince. The prince was afraid and started to kill Jiang Chong. Later, he was suppressed and defeated by Emperor Wu. Empress Wei Zifu and Prince Liu Ju committed suicide one after another. The third old man of Huguan, Hetian Qianqiu and others wrote a letter to sue the crown prince for injustice. Finally, Emperor Wu, who woke up, filled the three tribes with Yijiang and burned Su Wen. It also built a "thinking uterus" and made a "platform for returning and thinking" at the place where the prince was killed to express sorrow. Hundreds of thousands of people were involved in this incident, which is called the disaster of witches and insects in history.
