2ET by Robert Frost.
Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California.
When Robert's father died when Robert was 11, him and his mother moved to Lawrence,
Massachusetts.
His father was a writer, which inspired Frost to follow in his footsteps.
He attended Lawrence High School, where he met the love of his life, Eleanor White, as
they had graduated in 1892.
Robert Frost did not participate in World War I, but he did have an older brother who
was part of the Army.
After the war, he wrote the piece 2ET in 1920 about the death of his brother.
I slumbered with your poems on my breast Spread open as I dropped them half-read through
Like dove wings on a figure on a tomb To see if in a dream they brought a view
I might not have the chance I missed in life Through some delay and call you to your face
First soldier and then poet and then both Who died a soldier poet of your race
I meant, you meant, that nothing should remain Unsaid between us, brother, and this remained
And one thing more that was not then to say The victory for what it lost and gained
You went to meet the shell's embrace of fire On Vimy Ridge, and when you fell that day
The war seemed over more for you than me But now for me than you
However, though, for even me who knew The foe thrust back unsafe beyond the Rhine
If I was not to speak of it to you And see you pleased once more with words of
mine
Robert Frost's poem 2ET is a lament, which is a passionate expression of grief.
The overall meaning of the poem is the grief of a loved one and not being able to say goodbye.
The first poetic technique in this poem is a simile.
Spread open as I dropped them half-read through Like dove wings on a figure tomb
This means that the papers were spread out and looked or resembled dove wings.
You went to meet the shell's embrace of fire This was a personification as it means that
the shells took this person's life.
Another poetic technique was that the poem was in first-person point of view.
One example of this is I slept with your poems on my breast
And the last one is, the poem is a biography.
First soldier and then poet and then both Who died a soldier poet of your race
Is an example which is talking about the end of someone's life.
The poem 2ET by Robert Frost gives me a very sorrowful, agony tone within the words that
he chose.
Losing someone beloved to him, deeply hurted him as he was expressing that.
He re-reads the poems and just lays on his chest and has that feeling of mourning and
yeah.
I think this poem is kind of a sad poem and it's about a man who lost his best friend
or brother in the war and he didn't get to finish everything he wanted to say to him
and so there are a lot of unsaid emotional feelings towards this poem so it's a pretty
good one.
The poem is a sorrowful and emotional piece of literature.
It's the loss of a loved one and not being able to say goodbye, but left with sadness
and faded memories.
It's human nature to feel sadness and everybody at one point loses a loved one.
The grieving process may include denial and regret.
2ET is a phenomenal poem.
