The Vietnamese general led 10,000 troops to crush the Chinese army,
and made a nightmare for the people of the North.
A scholar had to be moved by the story of Ly Thuong Kiet.
The main way to bring the troops into the country,
when no one can resist, when no one dares to follow,
like the battle of Phung, this place is the best martial arts.
Ly Thuong Kiet was born in 1019, died in 1105.
He was a famous politician,
a high-ranking official under the Ly dynasty.
He was the official of 3 kings, Ly Thai Tong, Ly Thanh Tong and Ly Nhan Tong.
Ly Thuong Kiet was famous for the defeat of Chiem Thanh in 1069,
the destruction of Ba Chau, Cong, Ung, Liem in 1075-1076,
and the defeat of the Vietnamese invasion of the Tung army in 1077.
Ly Thuong Kiet was the 2nd general under Ly Nhan Tong,
and was one of the 3 main supporters when this king was still young.
According to the opinion of the Great Vietnamese Secretary General,
his family has a prosperous life.
He lived in Thai Hoa ward of Thanh Thang Dong.
Since childhood, Ly Thuong Kiet has shown to be a man of direction and willpower,
focused on learning, training and martial arts,
and had studied about the law.
Defending by attack
Now in the North,
Nhan Tong is facing the threat of the Hong Manh tribes,
namely Dai Lieu, Tay Ha, Kiet Dan.
In addition, the policy of effective reform in the country
of General Wang An Thach,
the constant protests of farmers.
Faced with this situation,
Tong God and Wang An Thach have drawn up a detailed Vietnamese invasion plan
to reduce pressure to regain fame,
and at the same time make the two countries, Ha and Lieu, have to fight against each other.
In 1075, the use of King Lê Thánh Tông,
King Lý Nhân Tông was just born,
Wang An Thach pleaded with King Tống
that the Great Vietnam was just defeated by Chiêm Thành.
The remaining army was not full of thousands of people,
it could be used to take it.
King Tống was wrong and arrogant,
made a mess of Quế Châu,
flooded the people's fields,
docked boats, practiced martial arts,
banned the provinces from buying and selling to the Great Vietnam.
Knowing the plan of Tống's invasion,
Lý Thường Kiệt immediately thought of a very special defense measure.
He pleaded with King Lý Nhân Tông,
sitting quietly waiting for the enemy,
just bringing the army to fight first to stop the enemy's strength.
Compared to the Great Vietnam,
clearly our country is a small country.
So why did Lý Thường Kiệt think of such a risky solution?
Because at that time, Lý Thường Kiệt thought that
the internal situation of the Vietnamese state was deteriorating,
the border was threatened by some neighboring countries,
and the country was divided after the strong reform of General Vương An Thạch.
It was the basis for our army
to be able to launch a surprise attack on the enemy's front.
After analyzing, Lý Thường Kiệt guessed that
Tống's army could go to our country in two ways.
In that, the road branch could take Châu Ùng,
Nam Ninh, Quảng Tây,
and the Thủy road branch could take Châu Công,
Châu Liêm, Quảng Đông,
as a gathering point for troops.
Therefore, the attack target
that he was going to target
was Ba Thành Trên with the mission
to destroy the enemy's stronghold and destroy the enemy's stronghold.
In October 1975,
there was an attack on Tên Phát Chế Nhân,
a famous Vietnamese history.
Lý Thường Kiệt and the captains Tông Đản,
Thân Cảnh Phúc, commanded 10,000 troops,
led two secret marines to enter the bay.
Secretly and unexpectedly,
40,000 marines went to the sea
from Châu Vĩnh An, Đồ Bộ,
to attack Châu Công, Châu Liêm.
On December 30, 1975,
the Vietnamese troops advanced to Châu Công,
capturing all the General's troops
without fighting a single battle.
Three days later,
on January 2, 1976,
Châu Liêm was also defeated.
From Châu Liêm, he led troops to Châu Ùng,
in conjunction with the troops
to destroy Châu Ùng,
the last and most important goal of the campaign.
Châu Ùng was defeated after 42 days of siege.
Lý Thường Kiệt ordered the troops
to destroy all the warehouses and food
of the enemy, then quickly withdraw the troops back to the country.
The General's troops,
led by the mastermind of the invasion,
were suddenly pushed into a state of disarray
as soon as they prepared to withdraw troops.
When they were told that Châu Công,
Châu Liêm had been lost,
the General was very confused
and worried that the generals in the area were lying.
Although the military force of Quảng Nam,
Tây Lộ quickly asked for reinforcements,
20,000 troops, 3,000 horses,
and asked the people to mobilize
all the roads from Kinh Châu
to Quảng Tây.
To control the troops quickly,
he also asked to retreat to Thanh Tuộc
near the northern part of Úng Châu.
The overwhelming victory
in the campaign against the enemy of Lý Thường Kiệt
created many factors that had a strong impact
on the outcome of the General's invasion.
The victory made the Vietnamese people
very sad,
forced the enemy to prepare for a long time
and especially to take the initiative
to attack Lý Thường Kiệt.
Not only did the troops
destroy the enemy,
push the enemy into a passive position,
Lý Thường Kiệt's first attack
also raised the prestige of the Vietnamese.
The attack was more purposeful
than a normal defense.
Let the troops return to the country,
take the initiative in hand,
Lý Thường Kiệt took action
and deployed a new formation.
He prepared the troops,
defended and established a defense
against Lý Thường Kiệt.
After the defeat against the enemy
of the cities of Úng Châu, Khâm Châu and Liêm Châu,
the General planned again
and prepared very carefully
for a revenge
with the aim of placing Châu Huyện
as the inner territory
after Bình was handed over Châu.
In March 1076,
the General Sai Tuyen Phu,
the governor of Quảng Nam,
lost the throne and became the governor of Thảo Sứ.
Triệu Tiết Lang Phó brought soldiers
with Chiêm Thành and Trần Lạp
to the Vietnamese territory.
But the troops of Chiêm Thành and Trần Lạp
dared to advance into the Vietnamese territory.
The General's troops numbered
up to 10,000 troops, 1,000 horses
and 20,000 soldiers,
with a very strong morale,
especially the General's cavalry.
To focus on the confrontation
with the General's troops in the North,
Chiêm Thành and Trần Lạp
were deceived by Chiêu Đình Nha Tống.
Lý Thường Kiệt led the troops
to suppress the border area
to the south of Vietnam.
The General's first goal
was to occupy Chiêm Thành Thang Long
and destroy Lâu Đại Palace.
Lý Thường Kiệt built
a solid road on the south bank
of the Nhu Nguyet River,
the current bridge.
Not only is it a natural reservoir
that protects Chiêm Thành Thang Long
and Lang Biếu Nhà Lý,
but this river also supports
all roads from Quảng Tây to Thang Nong.
Lý Thường Kiệt ordered
his troops to prepare
to attack the enemy
if they crossed the river.
Therefore, crossing the river
was also a challenge
for the enemy.
To stop the enemy's advance,
Lý Thường Kiệt ordered
Lý Kế Nguyễn to lead
a fleet of troops
to move to Bạch Đẳng.
It can be seen that
the navy will be a strong force
of the 58-year-old general
originated from a fact
that he clearly knew.
Not being good at war
was a serious weakness of the army.
So with that steady position,
the Lý's soldiers
were just waiting for the enemy.
Push the enemy into a difficult position.
At the end of 1076,
10,000 Tinh Hue troops,
1,000 horsemen and 20,000 men
led by Quách Quỳ and Triệu Tiết
boldly advanced to our country.
To advance further and
attack the troops of Lý
and then take Thành Thăng Long.
The army of General Quách Quỳ
had to cross the river
and the road was very stiff.
The fleet was in a hurry.
They were not used to the water.
Normally, the fleet was not ready
for sailors or warships.
And the important thing at this time
was that the unprofessional fleet
of the fleet was stuck in Đông Cây
and lost more than 10 battles
and could not advance further.
The powerlessness of General Quách Quỳ
made the attack of Quách Quỳ
a mess.
They landed on the shore of Nương Nguyệt River
but Quách Quỳ decided
to let the army cross the river.
But both times of crossing the river
were not only failures
but also heavy losses
due to the aggressive resistance
of the Lý's army.
After many attempts to cross the river
the Lý's army was disappointed
and ordered that whoever resisted
would be killed
and transferred from the offensive position
to the defensive position.
Therefore, the general's army
was more and more exhausted
and the atmosphere in the south
was not suitable for the northern people
so they died.
At the same time, the general's fleet
led by Hòa Mân and Dương Tùng Tiều
was attacked by the Lý's army
in Vĩnh An.
At the same time, the Vietnamese fleet
crossed the Nương Nguyệt River
but both sides were in time to counterattack
and retreat the general's army.
Lý Thần Kiệt also used psychological warfare
to stimulate the men's fighting spirit.
He was reading the poem
Nam Quốc Sơn Hạ by Tâm Phúc
in the poem
Trưng Hống Trưng Hát Cạnh Khúc Sông
Nương Nguyệt.
Nam Quốc Sơn Hạ, Nam Đế Cư
Tuyệt nhiên định phận
tại thiên thư
Nhưng hạ nghịch lỗ
Lai sâm phạm
Như đằng hành khán thủ bài thư
That night,
hearing the sound of the bell
we were all excited
The general's fleet was terrified
The general's fleet could not advance
and could not retreat
Hà Mòn was not allowed to deploy
the Vietnamese army
The Vietnamese army was attacked
by General Triệu Tiết
Although the general's fleet
was a small army
10 of the general's fleet died
6, 7 of them were killed
At the end of the spring of 1977
Lý Thư Kiệt launched
a major attack
On that night
the Vietnamese army
suddenly attacked
The general's fleet was in
a very difficult situation
Many Vietnamese soldiers
were killed
The general's fleet
and quickly accepted the peace treaty and withdrew his troops.
Tran Xuan Sinh's book, Viet Sui Ky Yiu,
tells the story of the General about this event.
The General thought that
it was lucky that the enemy asked for the peace treaty at that time,
otherwise he would not know what to do.
The god of the Le Trung Hung era, Ngo Thi Si,
in the book Viet Sui Tieu An,
praised Ly Thuong Kiet as follows.
Our country fought with the Chinese army many times.
From Emperor Nam De to the past,
it has been a long time.
Later, Emperor Ngo Tien Chua defeated Bach Dang,
Emperor Le Dai Hanh defeated Lan Son,
Emperor Tran Nhan Tong defeated Toa Do Thoat Hoan.
Those battles were the glorious stories of our country,
but they all came to the country,
it was unnecessary, but we had to fight.
Then came the main roads,
bringing troops and water.
When fighting, no one could resist.
When withdrawing troops, no one dared to chase.
Like this battle of Ung Liem,
it was the best martial arts.
The Chinese did not dare to look down on us.
When it came to the palace,
they did not dare to blame us.
They were only afraid of being in danger.
When it came to our country's poetry,
they only used two blackboards,
named a few great gods,
and used the Chinese alphabet to write.
So Ly Thuong Kiet was criticized a lot.
