Hello, dear listeners of the Vietnamese Epoch Times Radio Culture, Lifestyle and Health program.
Today, we are pleased to present to you the essay by the author Leo Berbader with the title
The Joy of Small Concerns.
The essay was translated by Thanh Ngoc from The Epoch Times.
Let's listen to it together.
For a few days, I needed to be at ease.
I was tired, stuck on the emotional side, or felt like I was surrounded by pressure from the outside world.
On those days, I tried to recognize my physical, mental, and emotional state.
At the same time, I asked myself what I needed.
Just realizing that was a big step for most of us.
We often don't know when we feel exhausted or overwhelmed by life.
We only focus on what we think we should do.
And then we will get over it.
This thought may be necessary, but rarely useful.
Because we force ourselves to act when we are exhausted or feel like we are facing something.
So if we realize that, we can pause, take a breath or two, and ask ourselves,
What do I really need?
Sometimes, for me, it's a short break.
I will close my eyes for a moment.
This is a small, beautiful comfort that I give to myself.
And then I feel much happier.
Today, I really want to support small comforts.
A short nap is a great example.
But there are many more things.
Here are some of my favorite small comforts.
A moment to breathe and recognize your feelings.
Riding a bike comfortably.
A cup of hot tea.
Bathe in hot water.
Walking comfortably and peacefully in nature.
Enjoying a few delicious fruits.
A hug from a loved one.
A short meditation.
A spoonful of peanut butter.
Wrap yourself in a good book.
A massage.
Submerge yourself in a pot of hot water.
Sit with someone and listen to music.
Enjoy one or two black chocolates.
Small comforts are often not risky.
But the advice below can really help you make the most of it.
The first advice is to avoid using.
Although it seems strange when talking about using.
But many of us have the ability to let go too much.
And almost addicted to suspicion.
For example, if you like to take a break with a glass of gold wine.
You can become abusive.
And feel that you need to drink whenever you are stressed.
Then the need will increase to 5 glasses a day.
The same thing happens with food.
Watching TV, playing video games, etc.
There is nothing wrong with being addicted to those things.
But you need to be patient.
Apply as much as possible to achieve the comfort you need.
But should not rely on one thing only.
The second advice is to face the discomfort when possible.
You can't always be comfortable.
If that's your goal.
In the end, you will lose yourself out of life.
I really support learning how to integrate with life.
Even if you encounter uncomfortable things.
This is how we grow up.
Of course, we can't be in a state of discomfort all the time.
Sometimes you need to be nurtured, supplemented and revived.
Sometimes we need comfort.
In the end, this is not a deal that can be broken.
But we can find the balance that suits us.
The next piece of advice is to let go of guilt.
Besides what I shared in the first two pieces of advice.
This article talks about small doubts.
Not the joy of guilt.
Doubt should be strong and wonderful when we need it.
See if you can allow yourself to enjoy these little pleasures.
Finally, I advise you to live with reality.
And enjoy every moment.
Enjoying a meal is not an easy thing.
If you are distracted by your phone.
Let yourself enjoy it.
And find the wonderfulness.
Full of taste in small doubts.
I hope you will allow yourself to take care of yourself when necessary.
And those are the small doubts of life.
See you in the next episode.
I wish you all the best.
