(Premier League 2023/2024): Highlights Crystal Palace - Tottenham Hotspur

But what a difference six months makes, when these two last met in May, Spurs were languishing in eighth under their third manager of a turgid campaign. So it's tabletop in Spurs, it's Crystal Palace in South London, and the visitors get us underway. Joel Ward, brought down by Schlatt, falls for Edouard! Top goalkeeper, far busier than he might have expected. Rusevsky's ball in, towards Richarlison, falls for Maddison. Towards the far post, that went Schlatt, it's loose, and it's in the back of the net, and Spurs have the lead, and it's come off Joel Ward, it's an own goal. So unfortunate for Palace to fall behind in that fashion. Johnson, put it on, James Maddison, back to Johnson, and across the face of goal and in. Jungmin Son has Spurs' second, and Tottenham are moving five points clear at the top of the league table. Hans Postekoglu's men go marching on. Into Ayew, Ayew strikes! What a wonderful goal, and that makes things interesting, ends up being nothing more than a consolation. Jordan Ayew has scored an absolute peach for Crystal Palace, and it's 2-1, just a couple of minutes remaining. Now Anderson, the ball has to go forwards. Bentoncourt, towards Mateta, in towards Ayew, Franca! There was the chance, a potential fairytale ending. It dropped for Matthias Franca on his Sellers Park debut, it was an awkward height, the ball was bouncing, and he just couldn't direct it goalwards.
