Hi everyone, and welcome to today's video session. I'm still Thomas, and I'm one
of the IELTS teachers here at Llango Learning System.
Today we are going to learn various ways of saying opportunity in English. Especially
in the IELTS test, the ability to diversify and apply language naturally and effectively
contributes quite substantially to your school. Let's get started now.
The first word I've got for you today is when you've got the occasion to do something.
That is, chance. All prisoners have a second chance to reintegrate into the community after
being released.
The next word indicates our chance of having an agreement or an arrangement, especially
in business. The word is, deal. She got a good deal, getting six months free because
she paid for a year.
The next word is pretty simple to learn. Good time. The price of ABC shares is increasing,
meaning now is a good time to invest.
When it comes to a great condition in every aspect, we could describe it as a golden opportunity.
Young people now have many golden opportunities to broaden their knowledge and expose themselves
to diverse working environments.
Another phrase with time is favourable time. I think it's a favourable time to confess
your attraction to her.
Coming to another word now, we have a lucky chance or a lucky break. It was a lucky chance
or a lucky break that he ran into her at the airport. They hadn't seen each other for
over 20 years.
The opportunity could just be for a shorter period of time. We could describe this as
a moment or an occasion. He lost the moment to tell her how he felt.
The next phrase I'm going to give to you is a very good replacement for opportunity.
A free ride. This is an idiomatic phrase. Suppose we got a free ride, would you want
to go then?
One more word to indicate a chance or an opportunity is scope. Sadly, there's little scope for
a salary increase at work this year.
The final one I've got to you today is an idiom. A second bite of the cherry. He missed
the medal in the 100 metres, but will get a second bite of the cherry in the 400 metres.
After this short video session, you hopefully will be able to use opportunity in a variety
of ways and make your speaking style much more varied and interesting to listen to.
I really hope that you found this session helpful in preparing you for your IELTS test.
