There's no denying that looks matter a lot in our world.
Yet the perception of attractive physical traits
is constantly changing with trends.
But inner beauty like our character and personality
is what truly attracts others.
It's way more important than just looks
when it comes to making your relationship last.
Wanna know which non-physical traits make you attractive?
Check out these four physical traits.
Strutting your stuff.
Believe it or not, confidence is attractive.
That doesn't necessarily mean you should be arrogant
or have a big ego, but rather having the kind of confidence
where you're secure in yourself.
But why is confidence so attractive?
According to Dr. Sean Murphy, social psychology researcher,
it's because the things we want in a partner
are hard to observe directly,
such as social status, kindness, drive, and competence.
Dr. Murphy says,
we trust that people know themselves well
and assume that their confidence or lack thereof
reflects their actual value as a partner.
On the other hand, overconfidence or arrogance
is not an attractive trait.
According to Dr. Murphy's research
on perceived attractiveness through dating profiles,
overconfident sounding descriptions
did not increase others' perceived romantic attractiveness.
So remember to show off what makes you awesome
and that you're self-secure.
Just don't...
Kindness.
Being kind is sexy.
One of the most desirable traits in a partner is kindness,
and it can actually increase one's sexual desirability.
A 2013 study from the University of Oxford
found that selflessness or helping behaviors
may be attractive
because they signal greater likelihood
of supplying non-genetic benefits, such as care.
According to the study,
for those who perform acts of altruism,
their potential partners may assess a relationship
as mutually beneficial, full of reciprocity,
and an enhancement of social status.
If you're a kind person,
which we're pretty certain that you are,
and other people know it, congrats.
It's a very attractive trait to have.
Regardless, we're all looking for ways
to brighten the lives of others,
so try your best to perform a kind act every day.
Being authentic.
Have you ever felt like you had to put on a persona
in front of someone you liked?
We've all been guilty of acting differently
in front of our crush,
thinking it'll make us more attractive.
But the thing is, you might be hiding something
that would boost your attractiveness.
Yourself.
In fact, being authentic
is one of the most crucial components in dating
and is especially important
for developing long-term relationships.
Adelphi University's 2019 study on authenticity,
personality, and dating behavior yielded diverse results,
one of which showed that being yourself
is not only attractive,
but also increases the chances
of attracting other genuine individuals
who value authenticity.
Not only that, but the be-yourself dating strategy
is often used by authentic individuals
to create successful long-term relationships.
So, looking to attract others,
especially to get into a long-term relationship,
just be yourself.
That's what'll make you the most attractive.
You're awesome.
Having a good laugh, sense of humor.
Why do cows have hooves instead of feet?
Because they lactose.
Did you find that funny?
No?
Oh, well.
If you laughed though, that's great.
On many occasions, being able to be lighthearted
and have a good sense of humor can be attractive.
Please don't judge my sense of humor.
A 2009 study by researchers McGee and Shelvin
found that compared to more serious counterparts,
those with a good sense of humor
were rated as more attractive and suitable
to be long-term partners.
In addition, people tended to prefer a romantic partner
with a sense of humor regardless of their gender.
The researchers also indicated that humor
is also more important to sustaining long-term relationships
in comparison to short-term relationships.
Don't be scared to crack a joke
and let your goofy side slip through.
It might just make you more attractive to others.
Have a funny joke?
Be sure to leave it in the comments below,
no matter how corny it might be.
You don't have to be a model to be attractive to others.
There are plenty of non-physical traits
that make you attractive and swoon people over.
Having a good character can spark romantic attraction
and a bond with someone special.
We as humans and a society put so much weight
on the importance of physical traits
that we sometimes forget
about how important non-physical traits are too.
We know that you have so many amazing traits,
so show them to the world as much as you can.
