Prince William can't handle the spice and reveals his not-safe-for-work emoji.
Plus, King Charles not on the mend with Harry as he and Meghan jet to the Caribbean.
Plus, fashion stylist Miranda Holder gives us her tips on how to dress like a royal for the fall.
It's your outfit topper, it's your statement maker and it's the first impression
really that you're going to make when you're meeting someone.
We've got that plus so much more in today's Royally Yes.
Hey everyone, Christina Yarbaldi here with Christine Ross and welcome to another big
week of royal news. Christine, a lot's going on this week.
Good stuff. All right, before we get into it, let's see what you guys had to say about last
week's show. Geraldine says Prince William and Kate and the kids and the royal family are amazing
and I think the royal family won the war with Harry and Meghan long ago and Harry and Meghan have
been singing ever since. That's no surprise, we kind of get these comments all the time,
but yes, Kate and William seem to be thriving at the moment. And another user says,
we love seeing Prince William and Princess Catherine. They both are winners in my book.
Yes, lots going on with William and Catherine this week and so let's get right into our news.
And actually kicking it off with the royal family, King Charles, Prince William and Princess
Catherine are voicing support for Israel after the surprise attacks by Hamas militants killed
killed thousands of civilians last weekend. So the Prince and Princess of Wales released a
statement on social media and it is the first time the couple have spoken out about the October 7th
attack. And so a spokesperson for the Prince and Princess of Wales said, the Prince and Princess
of Wales are profoundly distressed by the devastating events that have unfolded in the
past days. The horrors afflicted by Hamas terrorist attack upon Israel are appalling.
They utterly condemn them. So they spoke out, King Charles also spoke out as well as the Duke
and Duchess of Sussex condemning these attacks. It's absolutely horrific what is going on over
there. And we know that Prince William was in Israel not too long ago. Yeah, this is a really
interesting story from the royal family because it wasn't necessarily a given that they would
release a statement. We haven't seen a lot of statements from other royal households, but I
think because the British royal family has relationships with key characters, key players
in this horrific incident, you know, and as it unfolds, it's so, so difficult to watch. And I
think the Prince and Princess of Wales, their statement was really the most strongly worded.
So I think they were the ones to say, we have to say something. We have to make it clear that
we support these people and this is how we feel. Yeah, definitely. All right. Well, our hearts and
prayers go out to everybody affected. It's really just like I said, horrific. And it's nice that
they are speaking out and lending their support. All right, well, let's switch gears a little bit
and lighten the mood a little bit because Prince William and Princess Catherine were asked to share
their most used emojis. And one of them gave a surprising, not safe for work answer. So Prince
William said it would have been the Abergine emoji that he uses quite often. And he says,
it's where the eyes go up and down and the mouth's out. What's that one? The slightly crazy one. So
Abergine for those readers unfamiliar is in fact, the British English, British word for saying
eggplant. So Kate, meanwhile, had a, had no difficulty coming up with a family friendly
answer saying, mine's probably going to be the heart. And then the crying emoji and the hysterical
laughing emoji. But I love that, you know, Prince William's always sending the eggplant emoji.
After he asks who's pinching his bum during a photo. I mean, he's letting loose. Someone has
said, go on William. This is all happened during his, their BBC one interview last week. And he
also talked about Kate's cooking and the Kate asked William if he'll be cooking her dinner
while answering fans questions. He said, no, I think probably a curry. Won't it? He asked his
wife jokingly, assuming that she would be the one to prepare the meal instead. She laughed with
William and she confirmed that the family would most likely be eating curry or teriyaki salmon.
Also explained that while she has a tolerance for spice, William does not. He admitted,
I can't do too much spice. I start sweating. It's not attractive. Kate has to bring it in
because otherwise I get too sweaty. It's not a nice sight. I love, and then she also added that
she likes to give him extra spice on his dish after, after giving him his, I just love that
we're getting these little tidbits into their personal life. I know, like a match in the
kitchen or like the dinner table back at Adelaide cottage must be, it must be, it's so surreal to
think about. Kate does say she loves lots of cilantro and lots of spice and William's like,
no, none of that for me. So it's so funny. It's so normal, isn't it? Like we all have
disagreements with our partner over what tastes good or what seasonings to use. And it's these
little down to earth moments that are just so charming. We'd love to see it. Love to see it.
Well, we talked about Megan and Harry's big Archwell conversation around mental health
day last week, but we have a little bit more insight on what exactly they talked about.
And Prince Harry said that he has a lot of worries about raising their two children in a social
media driven world. Megan explained that the couple's Archwell foundation has been working
to better highlight the negative effects that come with social media for children.
She said, I feel fortunate that our children are at an age, again, quite young. So this isn't in
our immediate future. She added that she's also been given a lot of hope based on the progress
the Archwell foundation has made in the last year at giving a voice to the families hurt by social
media toxicity. Harry agreed with, with Megan telling attendees, I think for us or myself
and my wife with kids growing up in the digital age for us, it's a priority here. It is to turn
pain into purpose. I mean, you and I both with young kids, I know that this is something that
keeps me up at night is growing up in this digital media age and having to deal with,
you know, what goes on behind the scenes when you're not, when you can't monitor
everything that's going on. And it really is becomes a toxic environment.
Yeah. Harry's really, you know, he's really done a lot of work, social media reforms,
bullying on social media, goodness knows, Megan and Harry are familiar with, with that concept.
And I think putting it under the scope of, you know, we maybe can survive it as adults,
although a lot of people don't thinking about children, having to grow up in that environment
really pushes you to push for that reform. It seems like after their trip to New York
city, they are now enjoying some downtime in the Caribbean. They were spotted on a very
exclusive Island in the Caribbean, just kind of soaking in the sun and having a little mom, dad
time. Yeah, it was really sort of photos popping up online of them having sort of a leisurely
romantic stroll. Um, and, and again, it's, you know, they try and lead such a private life,
but we still see them from time to time, which is kind of nice.
Kind of nice. All right, well, let's spill some Royalty and Carson Daly was worried about Royal
protocol when he was talking to Harry and Megan, and he didn't know whether or not like how to
greet them. So of course he moderated a discussion discussion with the Duchess of Sussex and Prince
Harry during their arch will foundation summit. And he raved about it during his time on the
today show, he recalled the Sussex is being so great. And he said, he didn't know whether
to curtsy or hug, like what's the Royal rules and whatnot. And Megan said, bring it in with a big
hug. So, I mean, they're not working Royal, so you don't really have to, I guess, treat them
exactly like you would if you came across the Prince and Princess of Wales. But I like that
Megan kind of, um, eased everybody's maybe fear and just kind of brought it in for a hug.
Yeah. But I think Megan has always been like this, even when she was a member of the
working member of the Royal family, we saw her at these events where she would go in and hug
people. You know, she really is. I think that's her personality. She's, she's a hugger. She's
very down to earth, very friendly. I think she's, you know, just wants to put people at ease and
make them comfortable. Definitely. Well, we've been talking about suits, like I feel like every
single week. Um, so everybody get excited about this because it may be coming back on television,
but in a whole new way, no, Megan is not coming back. Um, deadline reported that creator of the
show is developing a suits offshoot with NBC universal. The project is not being billed as
a revival reboot or a spinoff, but rather an entirely new series that exists in the suits
universe. That's it will feature new characters and new cast and be set in a different location
than the original series. So, um, so just, uh, probably a show about lawyers doing well since
it's hit Netflix. Cause all we hear about is suits every week. We have a new story. This will
be really interesting. I'm sure people really love it because people really love watching suits.
Uh, but yeah, no, Megan, I don't think she's going to make any guest appearances.
I don't think so. And I don't think so, but I'm sure in, you know, in a couple of weeks,
everybody would be binging the crown because that's coming back on Netflix. And I know that
there were some new photos that were released from the show as well. So very exciting. Um,
it's definitely going to be a good season, you know, final season too. So, um, another week,
another story about King Charles, not mending fences with Prince Harry, but so he seemingly
tried to extend an olive branch to his younger son and attempt to make peace. But, um, another
Royal expert is saying that it was snapped in half by not reconciling with his father and brother,
Prince William. So Duncan Larkom said this, um, he told the sun recently that the monarch is also
allegedly punishing Harry for the things he wrote in his memoir, spare. Harry has said some deeply
hurtful things about Queen Camilla and yet the King will still correspond with his son.
I'll be at not directly. This is what Duncan claimed. He also said that it's remarkable
really because when Charles became King, he said he loved Harry and Megan, which was a huge olive
branch, which Harry then took snapped in half and then hit him with it. Um, who knows? I mean,
we talk about this on a daily basis. A lot of people did say when King Charles did make his
initial speech, when he became King, that he did extend that olive branch to Prince Harry.
But I mean, that was, um, well over a year ago now and not much has changed.
Yeah, I think this is a little bit of the, not this, a little bit of the same, you know,
that would be a natural reaction to that, to the, what was revealed in spare. The natural reaction
would be to be a bit upset and be quite angry about it. So this is just kind of a little bit
of what we already know and what we can already expect from this really terrible family drama
that keeps unfolding. Keeps on going. All right, moving on to a story, which I really love this
week. So princess Diana's iconic hairstyles were held in place by a specifically made hairspray.
So the Royals, um, cosmetic chemist revealed this all in an exclusive interview with page
six. So Sheree Ladov, who was, um, you know, in her early twenties when she got a call from
princess Diana to help her create or help her avoid this helicopter hair throughout her travels
across the globe. So she set out to make what she and Diana and Dalton called helicopter hairspray,
which was perfected after a series of trials and tribulations. She went on to explain that, um,
she explored lush forests and exotic terrains to source rare ingredients fit for a princess
approved product. She said, we found this gum resin, uh, from a tree and that's how we were
able to create this formula for Diana. I was literally in the lab formulating myself, figuring
out what's the melting point of this and how do we get it so that it's not so sticky and tacky.
So they created this, um, helicopter hairspray. So every time you saw her come out of a, um,
a helicopter, her hair was tightly in place. They said there was loads of tests and trials. I
wondered, did Diana have to like stand in front of a helicopter to test it out? I mean, you know,
was there lots of, you know, what were, what were we using exactly for this test method?
I think it's so fantastic. I love these inside stories about how things, you know, how a Royal
look really does come together. And speaking of Royal looks, let's break down the Royal rules.
And this week we are joined by fashion stylist, Miranda Holder, who is going to weigh in on the
latest Royal fashion trends and give us some tips and tricks, how to dress like a Royal for this
fall. What do you think of Kate's tailored suit streak as of late? What do you make of this?
Do you approve?
This has really become her uniform of choice, certainly for appointments and sort of work,
if you like, inverted commas for Kate. Um, and I think it's sending a message,
you know, that the Royals understand like no other, apart from perhaps celebrity stylists
like myself, the, um, the language and the power, the transformative power of clothes. You know,
what you wear says a thousand words before you've even got anywhere near who you're approaching in
terms of color, in terms of cut, how formal it is, how it hangs, et cetera. So Kate is saying,
don't focus so much on my clothes. You know, I am here to do a role. I want to be taken seriously.
I am treating this as, you know, a proper duty. Um, I am pledging my allegiance to these charities
and causes I'm supporting, and I am your future queen and I'm, I'm doing the best I can.
You said that you wanted to see Meghan have a full rebrand of her style. Do you feel like she
has done that in the months since? No, I don't actually. I don't. I think she's gone back.
She's gone back to who she is again, talking about her essence. I think naturally Meghan
feels most comfortable in more relaxed, casual clothing. You know, it's almost, um, symptomatic
of the countries they come from in here in the UK. We're a little bit more uptight and stuffy,
let's face it, traditional. And in the U S it's more free, you know,
it's the land of opportunity and you can get away with a lot more. So I think that's reflected with
their clothing. But in answer to your question, no, Meghan's just gone back. I think really to
her sort of California roots. She still looks glamorous. She's probably got some more expensive
pieces in there. She's probably got a bit more money now. I think she's weaving in more designer
heavyweights into her wardrobe, but her actual style signature has just gone back to who Meghan
really is. If you know us at home want to experiment and, you know, maybe dress like a
Royal, what are maybe three items that you must have in your closet for the fall? And maybe some
do's and don'ts when you want to dress like a Royal. Okay. Number one, it has to be a really
sharp coat. Um, generally I would say, but steer away from print and go for block color. They are
easier to aware and team with other things, but they can usually look smarter and certainly more
classic. If you really want to go for that Kate Middleton vibe, um, make sure you choose something
that, that complements your body shape. I would definitely say a great suit. Um, this is not
breaking any new ground, but we know all the Royals, uh, love them and wear them. Whether
this is a skirt suit or a trouser suit, pants suit, as you would say, as Kate loves, that's
very much up to you and down to your personal style, but they are just so versatile these days
and you can dress them up. Obviously you can wear them to work if that's, um, if you're in
an office situation, but you can really easily dress them up for the evening with a different
silk blouse, say some fantastic statement earrings, some killer heels, if you, if you dare.
Um, but they also look really cool styled down with sneakers or trainers, as we would say to
make them more daytime appropriate and cool. So that would be a really, really great investment.
And then finally, I would say, if I'm going to choose just three pieces,
a little style trick that Kate doesn't do as much of anymore, actually, but she used to do it all
the time was invest in a really elegant and comfortable. Now you would say pump, we would
say court shoe, um, because they might look a little bit old fashioned or plain, but actually
they're going to be your best friend because if you get a skin tone complimenting pair in a neutral
sort of nudie color, go for a monochrome look. So another really key strong royal family look,
and it makes fashion and dressing so much easier is to embrace the monochrome. So that means
wearing basically the same color from head to toe down to the shoes in the bag, if you want to take
it that far, but it's very slimming, it's elongating. It's also a very striking, um,
way to dress. So if you want to be remembered and make a real impression, um, wearing monochrome
is brilliant. And it also takes all the decision fatigue out of getting dressed in the morning
because you're just picking a red top and some red trousers and you're good to go.
I love, uh, I love Miranda. I think she's fantastic. And she gave some really good tips.
You know, those three statement pieces is pretty much all you need.
No, I mean, I feel like I need to go shopping now. This is really dangerous every time.
All right, let's wrap it up with our pint-sized pallets and Prince William and Prince George
traveled to France to support Wales in the Rugby World Cup on October 14th. The Prince of Wales and
Prince George were twinning in their Navy suits with red ties to support the Welsh team. Um,
and William opted for a white shirt while his son opted for a light blue button down. Unfortunately,
their father's son outing didn't result in a victory, but we love seeing the two of them
together. They visited the players in the locker room after the game to share the condolences
after the loss, but I'm sure that definitely uplifted the player's spirits.
I think this was really special. I love that Prince George was there. And if you watch footage
from when they are meeting the players, Prince George, it's so cute. He's shaking hands. He's
making eye contact. He's sort of, he's actually having a conversation with them. You know, it's
really, really amazing, but they're raising a future King. You know, it has to be a little
bit different. He must, you know, have different expectations. He can't sort of be shy and hiding
behind his dad at these sorts of events. So it was really great to see them together and great to
see George kind of stepping into this role. Yeah, you're right. And I mean, he's 10, he's slowly
stepping into this role and calling along on more outings and things like that. So I'm sure we'll
see more of George in the upcoming weeks. All right. Well, Christine, thank you so much as
always. And that wraps up this week's episode of Royally Ask. Keep commenting, keep subscribing,
