This is now the third time Je-sus
showed Him-self to His dis-ci-ples
af-ter He was raised from the dead.
When they had eat-en break-fast,
Je-sus said to Si-mon Pe-ter,
“Si-mon, son of Jo-nah,
do you love Me more than these?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord;
You know that I love You.”
Je-sus said to Pe-ter, “Feed My lambs.”
He said to him a-gain a sec-ond time,
“Si-mon, son of Jo-nah,
do you love Me?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord;
You know that I love You.”
Je-sus said to Pe-ter, “Tend My sheep.”
He said to him the third time,
“Si-mon, son of Jo-nah, do you love Me?”
Pe-ter was grieved
be-cause He said to him the third time,
“Do you love Me?”
Pe-ter said,
“Lord, You know all things;
You know that I love You.”
Je-sus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
Most as-sur-ed-ly, I say to you,
when you were young-er,
you gird-ed your-self and walked where you wished;
but when you are old,
you will stretch out your hands,
and an-oth-er will gird you,
and lead you where you do not want to go.”
This Je-sus spoke,
sig-ni-fy-ing by what death
Pe-ter would glo-ri-fy God.
When He had spo-ken this,
He said to Pe-ter,
“Follow Me.”
