
U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Election

The House held a Speaker election to replace former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy who was removed from the position on October 3. During the first round of House Speaker election balloting, Jim Jordan fell short of the 217 votes he needed to win the gavel.
Jeffries: 212
Jordan: 200
McCarthy: 6
Scalise: 7
Zeldin: 3
Garcia: 1
Emmer: 1
Cole: 1
Massie: 1
House Democrats continued to be united with all 212 members voting for Rep. Hakeem Jeffries while 20 Republicans voted against the Republican nominee Jim Jordan. The House will have to hold another vote.
