When I was 12, all I could think about was riding dirt jumps.
Kids pick up all kinds of hobbies, while others might have footballs or baseball bats. I made up my mind
I made my own BMX bike. My hobby became my entire life.
I'd no sooner watch the mud off from riding until curfew,
than do it all over again before school the next morning. I picked up my first camera as an extension of BMX.
I started shooting my friends on BMX courses around the country. In doing so,
I discovered a creative outlet that became the course for the rest of my life.
I'll never forget the day a good friend convinced me to ride my old 10 speed into Griffith Park for a 10-mile loop
they call a trash jump. It was a tiny climb that just about killed me.
But it sparked the same excitement that my first BMX bike did, so many years ago.
I found myself wanting to ride farther, seeing just where each road could take me.
It wasn't too long before all that road riding led to me getting myself a new bike, and with a new way to explore my city.
I love the Los Angeles cycling scene.
There's so many cyclists in the city, all of us with demanding jobs and schedules.
When I'm out on my bike, riding gravel, trails, or road, I get a chance to recharge.
I'm able to ride away from my busy career behind the camera for a bit, and take it all in.
In those moments, when the light hits the city or mountains in just the right way,
I'm able to bring that inspiration back to the work I love to do so much.
