But that's just a thing. I'm happy about that. Even if it annoys me sometimes and if I sometimes think so much negativity.
Why are opinion bloggers dangerous? This is a video by Alicia Joe that she uploaded.
And even if I'm not an opinion blogger, but a political journalist, but I'm also in this bubble, I want to say a little something about it and continue the discussion a little bit.
Because we noticed a few things there, where I myself have also seen that there are points of criticism or there are simply things that I may see differently or that I see similarly, but that you have to spin a little further.
So if you haven't seen the video by Alicia Joe yet, take a look at it. I linked it to you in the i at the top.
But I think it's a very important discussion that contributes to the entire YouTube cosmos of political journalists, opinion bloggers or just opinion bloggers who contribute to social issues, which I find very relevant.
And I'm actually still a very small fish in this overall construct. There are channels like Dark Parable Knight or Alicia Joe or a few others that are significantly larger afterwards.
And as I said, I don't make opinions per se, but, and I think that's important to mention, there are actually more opinions on my channel, in quotation marks, when you think, how you think and what it is and where it is.
We'll clarify that in this video. So let's go through the points that Alicia actually mentioned in her video.
Point number one, Alicia said that she is concerned that opinion bloggers can use their reach shamelessly and that the fans or the communities behind it blindly follow.
And I have to say, I think that's not just a fear, that's actually something that has been going on for a long time, for years.
And if not right away in the German market per se, although I would also say that there have been at least once in the American market.
It also takes more media competence to be able to classify something like this better.
On the other hand, I have to say, in principle, I prefer it in democracy when politicians, in this very special case, publicly explain their opinion.
I personally think that's better than when politicians don't do that at all and don't explain themselves at all.
An important point, where I thought, Alicia, you're right, but are we, are you Alicia or are we a bit trapped in our own world? Because you talked about it, Alicia talked about it, good, crisp titles work and being racy works on YouTube.
Yes, it works. However, there are also counter-examples, especially from the science bubble, where we see exactly the opposite.
Sabine Hossenfelder, if you know her, maybe some of you know her, a scientist, and her thumbnails are actually, in my opinion, often more like science posters that you can find at universities.
Admittedly, yes, these thumbnails and titles are also pointed to a question.
So I think about this, in general, about this storytelling of an exciting fact, put it at the beginning, put it in the thumbnail, put it in the title.
That's something that follows me, that's something that Sabine Hossenfelder and many other journalists follow, and in fact, I can give you a personal example right now.
The video that went online before this video, so I'll link it to you again here, was about the success of the AfD and why the AfD is successful or not.
In fact, there was a lot of criticism from your side, in my community. It wasn't deep enough for you, there weren't enough answers for you.
And in fact, yes, in retrospect, I agree with that, I agree, the video was pointed to it, and to this question, it's also such a thing, it's an analysis, but we'll get to that in a moment, and that's this opinion part.
It's a question that there are no easy answers to at the end of the day, which is why I then also changed the question, sorry, the thumbnail and the title, a day later, to the AfD, simply put, 2023.
And that's exactly what the video fits in with and fits in again. So this question of pointed titles and thumbnails is an important question, so horse race journalism, so you have to be the fastest, you have to be with the crispest title.
I think we all follow that, but Alicia said in her video that the basics work better and that we don't want to watch totally differentiated videos at all.
And I think that's a bit, so it's of course also due to the platform, but it's also a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
What do we suggest? And in fact, I have to say, Alicia Joe is also an example here where I have to say, at least in the preparation of the videos themselves, that it is incredibly unnerving.
That's why I would be careful to say with the assumption that the algorithms or the platforms are per se to blame for it, or the users, so we're all to blame for the fact that we would first watch simple things and want to.
Next point. Charisma is trumf. I think that's an extremely exciting point and I would say now that's something I consciously take out of on this channel here at least.
This video here, for example, is something that I personally find very, very rare, where you may also notice that here I am more open, here I am more honest with myself, here I show you more of my personality.
But charisma is trumf, that's what Alicia Joe means in this case, so that fans trust the opinion bloggers more in case of doubt, because of course you still know them on a kind of personal level.
And that's a big point that I find critical, which is why I am also extremely careful to give you more of me on a personal level, or to share personal anecdotes, or to share my own opinion.
I do it sometimes and I'm going to go again on this opinion part again, but that's exactly the point why I try to share as little opinion as I can or how I think is acceptable for me, so as not to reach this fandom.
The disadvantage is, I'm very transparent here, the disadvantage of the whole thing is, although it is actually an advantage, that you are extremely critical of me, and that's good.
That also means for me, in a video like the AfD, don't be afraid of constructive criticism, all the time, or even more transparently, especially with cooperation partners, you are also very, very, very critical.
And I have already explained it in another video, link up there. I am in an economic situation where cooperation, advertising cooperation, is necessary to do this here, to keep this channel alive at all.
This is necessary in my economic situation, but there have also been corporations that have worked less well, because I think there is simply a good distance between us here, a distance in the sense that you don't believe everything I tell you.
And that's a good thing, that's a good critical consciousness between us, which sometimes means for me, with some corporations, I'm sometimes a little bit, not in despair, but a little bit looking, okay, how can this fit now?
But that's just such a thing, I'm happy about that, even if it makes me angry sometimes, and if I sometimes think, bah, so much negativity, constructive negativity, difficult, also difficult for me to process.
But that's actually a good thing, which is why I also believe in all opinion bloggers, you should pay attention to that, and you should, with your own personality, if it is possible, take a little back to build a more critical community.
A critical community does not mean in case of doubt that they will leave you. In case of doubt, they will leave you, you, the others, whoever you are watching, may even appreciate more, precisely because of that.
And that's a thing, I don't necessarily see the viewers in the responsibility, but more the creators, to pay more attention to that.
If opinion blogging is important to you in the sense that you are as independent, critical, objective, factual, respectful as possible.
So, that's it.
And now to the last point, because this is what Joe also mentioned, this opinion part, so separation of opinion and facts in a video.
And I think with an opinion blogger, where you can already see opinion, or where you know, I get an opinion now, it is also fair to say, if there is simply a mixture here, without declaring it per se.
This is a bit different on my channel, because I don't frame myself as an opinion blogger, but as a political journalist.
But also on my channel there are often, as you may think, opinion parts, which are not per se an opinion, and these are the analysis parts.
If, for example, I analyze why the AfD is so successful, does Annalena Baerbock actually do a good job?
Then these are all questions that have to be analyzed, just like in political science, but which in the end is an observation from different points of view.
These points of view are in doubt an analysis, in doubt a personal, subjective opinion.
It is only important that you incorporate different points of view and create a construct for you as viewers, a construct of different opinions, so that you not only get the feeling, but also know, hey, there are just different points of view.
Of course, there is now, if you are very deep in journalism, something like false balancing, so you should, if you really see and have the task as a journalist, to present reality as realistically as possible,
you shouldn't just give one opinion because there are two opinions and 100 other opinions, you shouldn't weigh these two opinions exactly the same as the 100 other opinions, then the representation of reality is simply not true anymore.
What was my point? Oh, opinion and analysis, exactly. So that actually exists for me too, only if that happens, then I also write somewhere in the banner or up here on the right in the video, analysis, that this is very clear.
This is really a difficult construct, but you have to explain it. So, why are opinion buggers dangerous? I think they can also be harmless if you just pay attention to a few principles that I also mentioned in this video.
Thank you for watching, that was another video, a bit more open video, by the way, I don't have a prompter here in front, here is actually always a prompter, always such an iPad, and no more and no less. Thank you for watching and see you next time.
